    This footage is insane. They won't even be able to rebuild roads because the road beds are gone. They'll have to resurvey everything just to re-establish property lines. I have family nearby. I'm thankful that they are okay.

      You should see it up close, it's even worse, I didn't see the river but I could here it from my front porch, I live on the other side of 81 from the Nolichucky and could walk there in 10 minutes that was the most horrific sound, I lost all communications with my family and I had my 2 youngest grandsons,13 and 8 years old, I couldn't get a signal on my phone and we were trapped all around by road and bridges out for 2 days, there is a big green house sitting in the middle of 81 going towards Erwin and less than a tenth of a mile beyond that, there is no road, it breaks my heart to know that road is gone and the drive to Erwin will never be the same beautiful drive it was....😢😢😢😢😢

      It may have been a LONG time since that river flooded like that, but me looking at this video im just thinking.... how did they get approved to build 15- 20ft above a river?? IN A VALLEY.... I dunno... this was bound to happen one day. .

    Me and my wife lived in the little white house for 31 years. We lost everything but our vehicles. We just did get them out along with our 2 Dachshunds 1 pair of jeans 2 t shirts 3 pair of shoes and our meds simple because i had backpacks open and readt for an emergency. I never thought this would be the emergency it happened crazy fast. Our house was completely underwater maybe 1-2 feet of the roof possibly was showing no one could tell you couldn't get close enough the water was so far up the street. God bless everybody. Prayers for all.

To not be able to recognize a location you know like the back of your hand is scary, sad, mind blowing, and devastating! This is not a short term recovery this is now a long term investment/rebuilding process that will take YEARS! Pray for EVERYONE for the strength and money needed to continue on 😔

      I wish the media spent more time providing resource threads for aid and resources specifically for emergencies like this. It's overwhelming in the midst of a disaster zone to navigate the available aid to begin to rebuild and recover. Start with FEMA site, state emergency management Facebook page, county Emergency Management. I'm so sorry there isn't more information available at-a-glance. That's emergency management 101 and it's lacking across all these states affected. Very disturbing people in a disaster zone have to hunt out resources when everything is gone.

    Thanks, Brett, for all of the drone footage. MSM isn't showing this to anyone. It is the people uploading their videos to YT to show all of us what has happened/is happening across TN, NC, VA, GA, SC, etc.
    I live in Knoxville, but we were not in harms way. We had a ton of rain where I'm at and some high winds/gusts but not hurricane force. Our local schools are donating goods and water to where they need them. The sad part is no one really knows how many people lived up in the hollers and mountains. I was watching Ryan Hall Y'all on YT live for over 12 hours when, at the last minute, the storm turned into the Blue Ridge and Smokies aka Appalachians into a north/south direction. Again, thank you for getting this footage out there. God Bless.❤

    until Hurricane Helene, rivers for recreation. I pray eventually everybody is accounted for, whether alive and reunited or found dead for closure. Every single person affected deserves

    This is unbelievable! I live in Jonesborough n I can't believe wat I'm seeing here! I didn't realize how bad it got down there n there's not a lot of coverage on it that I've seen! I live about 15 mins away from here right above down town Jonesborough n it's shocking to see how close those flood waters came! I also have family that lives about 5 mins from here! I've been across this bridge several times n we used to go to the dump when I was a kid! This is so horrifying! I'm praying for all the people that lived down there n I hope they were able to get out before the flood hit! If this is wat it looks like down there then I bet the road that runs right next to the Nolichucky river that goes to Erwin is completely gone as well! I haven't been down that way in years but me n my cousin use to go driving down there right next to the river! God bless all the people that lived down there n I pray that they are all alright! I just thought this bridge was right up the road from the Crossroads at the 4 way stop so I bet the crossroads store must have been completely flooded as well! On down the road from that was Chucklys Trading Post n I did see a video that it got flooded as well! These places I've seen n driven by in my life n there completely destroyed now! This is so sad n I'm sending my prayers to everyone!

    From WC, The difference between the big cities and the people here in NE TN, in the big cities the people wait on bridges or wherever to wait for the government (usually the U.S. government) to come and help them! Here the citizens are out as soon as they can to help, clean debris away, clean what they can, and start to rebuild! My daughter and son-in-laws church was flooded to the second level (where they hold church service), a separate wing for special occasions as well as two separate storage buildings were washed away, however, in the area of the church a small stand with 3 flimsy legs left a bible untouched on top of it! What do you make of that?! At any rate, after Sunday, where another church allowed them to have Sunday service, which was Monday morning many of the members were there to start cleaning and removing all the dirt from the flood! The police showed up and wanted them to leave, saying they had to wait for a government inspection, but after the Pastor spoke with them the police allowed them to stay and start cleaning! A group of young men showed up that had just started a lawn and grading company and removed all the dirt and debris from the parking lot! This is what happens in mid-USA! Do you think this would happen in the big cities? I doubt it! This is in Erwin TN! So the spirit of the USA is still alive but not in the big liberal cites!

    0:39 one can see many layers in the earth, is that from building up the base for the roadway? -or- is it silt deposits from many similar floods over the millennia in this floodplain?

    Where did all the homes go? The debris in surrounding areas don't appear to contain contents from entire homes. Are these images after clean up had already started?
    Were people and their pets able to evacuate safely in time?

    No words can describe the force of destruction. Wow, that is after the storm as it recedes. Lord help us.I still don't understand how the rivers could have risen so much from "Hell"ene in Florida. Was it because of so much rain or did it push its way up the rivers?

      20+ inches of rain and the reservoirs were at capacity, which is to be expected, open flood gates many dams in multiple states. The previous day that whole area got 3,4,5 inches of rain from a differ low system.

    • @Moose6340
      @Moose6340 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Rain. This is far too far inland for storm surge. And there was some wind but not hurricane-force, enough to do light damage but nothing more. This was all the result of 15-30 inches of rain in an 18-24 hour period in an area that was already pretty wet. Helene ran into another low pressure system on its west side as it tracked over the mountains that made it drop even more rain. All that water in those rugged mountains ran into the hundreds of little creeks and streams that dot the landscape, and they overflowed, and then it rushed down into the bigger streams, and they overflowed, and then it rushed down into the larger rivers, and THEY overflowed...and this is what resulted.

    I wonder do you think when the build back happens. There will be a place for the water to go or build back as was? I live in an area where tornados happen in the same area often about every 4 years they take out my town. They always build back the same. I don't know if there is things that can be done differently to make thibg more resilient aginst the flooding that happened there. I get its not happening all the time. Just seems like some kind of effort to make sure all that water has some where planed to go. Maybe even capture some of it to filter and drink.
