This is a graphic video of wolves eating a mule deer to death. This is from Yellowstone National Park in Lamar Valley, Alpha female 06 and Alpha male 755. Filmed May 27, 2011.
@Brenden8445 some wolves in Yellowstone Park have been captured with helicopter then fitted with a collar that sends out a signal so biologists can locate them. They are located from the ground and or air via telemetry then positions are relayed via radio to the necessary biologists studying the wolves.
Nature is the final law. Awesome video. I can't believe people would actually complain about you posting "something like this." Do they actually think wolves worry if their prey is suffering or not ? They're animals and guided by nothing but the will to live and care for their own. It's amazing actually how dedicated they are to the preservation of their own species.
ive seen a moose get eaten from the ass to the heart by a pack of wolves while it was kicking trying to get itself away. imagine having being eaten through your ass, have your guts pulled out and eaten. then have the sides of you being chewed and eaten WHILE your alive. thats the wild everyday.
@XxFinalFlashXx1 If your read the title you would see that this is a mule deer. And, yes the deer was literally eaten alive, hence the title of this video.
Ive been eating animals for many years now and don't recall ever eating one alive (aside from the occasional spider or insect that supposedly crawl into your mouth when you're sleeping).
Tell this to people who hate Spotted Hyenas. Hyenas are often hated by most people, because they eat their (large) prey before killing it. They foolishly think that they are trying to be cruel & heartless. Wolves on the other hand are widely loved and praised, yet they eat their prey alive too. Most people don't even know that Wolves do this.
Hi Mike, We are making a nature documentary for PBS on mule deer and need footage to show interaction with wolves. If you are interested please can you contact me to discuss how we might go about reviewing your footage with a view to using some of it in the final program. Cheers Chris
@sunsdomain Yeah, I was referring more so to how I would feel if it were me, as a human, in that situation...not the deer. Because you're right that would be anthropomorphizing them too much. I was also just thinking of the physical pain, not knowing I was about to die (otherwise I'd say that not explain painful stuff). Though I'm sure animals feel fear-it's what makes us do things like run away from a predator. They don't understand their own death but sure do have an aversion to being attacked.
@ksmith41596 just so you know, it wasn't NERVES, the deer was alive. Not only did I film this event but I sat there at watched it for a about 30 minutes. I have only posted 41 seconds of 30 minutes of video because people don't want to watch 30 minutes of anything, a few seconds is all you need. Eaten alive it was :)
That was my point to Zebra5289, thus why I use sick in quotation marks. I have no issues with what is considered natural in the animal world, nor w/people viewing it. Please forgive if my attempt at a humorous dressing-down didn't quite come through, I find it hard to make my point clear in 500 characters or less sometimes.
Disturbing and shocking stuff, but we should also remember that this is just the way nature works sometimes, in all its pitiless indifference. That mule deer knew damn well what would happen to it if the wolves caught up, and this time its luck just ran out. Thankfully, it's highly likely that as soon as the body cavity was breached, the deer went into deep shock, which deadens pain.
@SuperMontanamike the deer was dead. It was nerves. Nerves can act up for 24 hours after a death of a animal. Snakes, turttles, and the lizard can have the body still move the whole time for up to 18 hours non-stop. While animals of the deer family can have nerves act up to 2-4 hours after death, mostly depending on their physical and health state prior to their death the weaker they were the less the going to move. Now with that being said the deer was dead, and it was nerves that caused it.
So here are some facts. Lolo elk herd in Idaho is considered unsustainable w/o a drastic decrease in wolf population. Herd decreased from 12,000 to less than 2,000 since wolf reintroduction. Cow and calf survival rates are too low to maintain the viability of the herd. Montana- Gallatin valley herd decreased from 2,000 to 200 in just 3 years Yellowstone elk herd dropped from 20,000 to 6,000, calf survival rates are alarmingly low. This is about preventing decimation of herds, not hunting.
Predation was going on for hundreds of millions of years before humans ever disgraced the planet. Don’t hate the players, hate the game and the cruelty of the games creator !
Why the frown? Wolves have to eat too, not only to stay warm and healthy but to feed their young ones. Graphic? Yes. Nature? Yes. Turn that frown upside down!
I video nature and photograph wildlife. I would record this because it is what I do. People who enjoy nature understand the cycle of nature. People that are ignorant to nature make ridiculous comments about things they don't understand. More importantly, why, if you are offended by this type of video would you watch it?
I have a question. How is it so wrong for Chinese people to eat fish that is still quivering after taking a minute or two to kill it? When wolves eat deer alive?? HOW???
Where is Doug Smith and his cronies of wolf worshipers that applaud and cheer on the wolves to decimate game animals like this. Was that Lynn Stone laughing with the raven's?
Well said volklskier07, I don't understand why people have to be out of line with comments, when all I'm trying to do is show the public a nature seen I captured of a infamous female wolf and her alpha male mate supporting their pack, nature is nature and continues to be nature if we see it happen or not. Nature knows how to survive regardless of what is thrown at her. A balance will take place, even if it takes longer than we want. People are people and there will always be trouble makers ;(
If you had a job where you could afford groceries, you wouldn't hate these awsome predators that are loved by so many. Can't afford to buy meat at a grocery store?
Not completly true. Ever seen a cat play with a baby bird for fun? They usually end up chewing its wings and when its to weak to move leave it there to die then come back later and drag it around.
Wolves don't have guns, this is the only way they CAN kill and eat. It's the same way with any other predator other than humans. I still love wolves, and nobody should hate them just for trying to survive. Wolves are still beautiful creatures, who are family-oriented just like humans. The deer knew what would happen if it got caught, and it just wasn't fast enough. It paid the price. It's the circle of life.
I'm not picking a fight, and I intend for you to do the same if you reply back, but the deer IS more than just "food." It is a living being just like you and I. Humans are also just "food" then.
that is what I thought..large cats have some really big fangs that can penetrate and kill but animals dont have a sense of empathy...they just dont want their food moving....
I find it bizarre to view this & then criticize others for doing the same which is why I replied to zebra5298. I tried to use their words to point out their own hypocritical behavior. While I do not find it easy to watch any animal die, I can see the beauty in pure unfettered animal. Wouldn't it be nice to live a life without justifications...
So if a wolf kills a deer slowly and painfully, it's totally ok, but if a human kills a wolf quick and painless (even out of defense) he's a sadistic monster? Wolves are actually my favorite canine, but I am so sick of how hunters or people who shoot them to protect themselves or their livestock are demonized. At least a person has the good grace to kill the animal he shoots before he eats it.
I hope every single wolfaboo sees this video. Looks like their "wolfs" aren't so preshus and harmlezz anymore, huh? Also, to any wolfaboo who stumbles across this comment: You can't use the animal vs human argument. Humans ARE animals.
@ruj1970 Interesting, have you ever had the opportunity to watch wolves in the wild doing what they do best, survive? Think it's easy to kill your meal every time you or your family feels hungry? Other wolves invading your territory, men hunting you down, grizzly bears taking away your meal? It's hardcore being a wolf in the wild, I know this is hard for you to understand, but, again, as a wildlife photographer and observer of wild animals, I just shoot it like I see it. Respect that, okay?
Yes its graphic and extreme, but not different than what any other meat eating creature (including humans) do with their food source. You want to see cruelty?? check out any number of factory farming videos. I doubt either that deer are on their way to extinction.
I'm not too sure whom you are attacking with this comment because you replied to zebras5289 comment that also believes this is a sick video. Understand something, a lot of us enjoy wildlife viewing, sometimes crazy stuff happens and we are lucky, not sick, when we get the chance to see nature as it is. Your comment is ridiculous because you are offended by my video and have negative stuff to say about it, yet, you watched it, guess you are just as "sick" as the rest of us.
@ruj1970 Well, as a wildlife photographer that wouldn't make much sense. If i shot them with a gun you wouldn't be able to make any comments about this video, they'd be dead. Apparently you like seeing wolves alive or you wouldn't be watching videos of them eating a mule deer to death.
@SuperMontanamike Right nature bounces back from everything except the from addicted to killing huntsman who overkill for fun, saddism etc. They also want to save their elk from predators so that they can kill it themselves. Keep up the great wildlife videos!
Actually, they are some of the worst offenders >.> cats tend to play with their food and the prey dies slowly. I have seen cats toss their prey up in the air several times and claw it a bit and mess with it/make it suffer while they play with it and then after a long while finally kill/eat it. Most of the time the prey is too hurt beforehand to run away while it is being thrown around and pawed/clawed at, so it is completely helpless as it is being tortured and then killed. Cats are not nice >.>
Your kidding, right? Your own comment fits your description far more than mine. And when did I ever claim they should all be killed? I didn't. What I did was point out that they are wild animals and incredibly deadly-dangerous, rather than the innocent sweet puppies that so many foolish people like to think of them as.
Tumblr is full of folksy hipster fucks who have boners for wolves. Morons don't realize these animals would rip them to shreds before they have a chance to take a picture, put a shitty filter on it and post it to their hipstagram.
Heh, ironically enough there are plenty of other animals which kill with no intentions of eating their victim. Nature is not some sort of beautiful work of art that people idolize it to be. Not that nature isn't beautiful - but it is crueler than most would think and this whole idea that only humans are killers is nothing more than ignorance.
+Laurie Campbell Did you know that if it weren't for wolves, snakes, spiders and other predators, our cities would be so overflowing with rats, insects and other pest spreading vermin that our average lifespan would be about 30 years. We DO need wolves. What we don't need is this over sensitive attitude towards animals that are usually prey to predators. They're a source of food. They have always been a source of food, and they will always be a source of food. If you're going to hate on anything for their brutal nature, then you should target humanity. Waterboarding and mutilation wasn't invented to play pranks on people.
Carnivores especially when they have not eaten for a long time, do eat prey when the prey is still alive. It happens more often than most people realise.Nature is effectively efficient and cruel.
I will show these to people, when they say how terrible humans are, how much better and noble wild animals are. at least we'll try to kill the thing before we eat.
Wolves have no moral standards. Maybe the deer was sick so the wolves had catch it easily. But some people who should have moral standards skin animals when they are still alive and are able to do other cruelty to many animals and at least to other people.
what is the prey?
Yes, some of the wolves in Yellowstone Park have collars that help researchers track their movements, it's called a telemetry collar.
What a beautiful and intelligent creature. Thanks for sharing!
Was the deer or whatever it was eating actually moving when the wolves were having their feeding frenzy?
@Brenden8445 some wolves in Yellowstone Park have been captured with helicopter then fitted with a collar that sends out a signal so biologists can locate them. They are located from the ground and or air via telemetry then positions are relayed via radio to the necessary biologists studying the wolves.

Congratulations on getting to see this amazing sight.

tell me more, please. :)
zombieanimator1 at lrast eaten alive is not the worst way to die;-)
@TheSanityInspector Thanks for recognizing what it is, an amazing sight.
A wolf skin coat would be my dream winter wear! Or a hat with the tail for a steering wheel cover!
What's with Peta?
@airsoftwarsification Last ones alive? You care to elaborate on that?
@SuperMontanamike When I see wolves in the wild you hear the crack of my rifle. I respect what you do as a photographer, that's cool.
Hey Brewkie, you got that right! But, it is also beautiful and magnificent. Humbling too :)
@XxFinalFlashXx1
If your read the title you would see that this is a mule deer. And, yes the deer was literally eaten alive, hence the title of this video.
If a dog tried to attack would it run away you if you ran at?
Yes, I remember you. You were the guy that was tracking Yeti.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Why would you record this!!!
I know. Doesn't mean I enjoy watching something suffer.
Now that's a disembowelment.
Ive been eating animals for many years now and don't recall ever eating one alive (aside from the occasional spider or insect that supposedly crawl into your mouth when you're sleeping).
I was there on this day too. Sorry, but these are Honey Badgers that have just taken down a massive Klipspringer!
heavy blood loss, extensive trauma, ruptured organs, massive haemorrhaging, yes, cause of death still not certain.
did you have fun eating chicken or beef yesterday?? I thought so.
Damnit, I hate this sort of stuff, but I still watch it cause shit, wakes me up to never go outside my house! LOL!
Tell this to people who hate Spotted Hyenas.

Yeah. I really got to see the wolves devour the deer in all its graphic goriness and fury, the blood-curdling shrieks were a bonus.
I tried turning it upside down but it looks the same.
Excuse me, I'm going to go eat some live oysters now
Disturbing and shocking stuff, but we should also remember that this is just the way nature works sometimes, in all its pitiless indifference. Deer should have run faster then we would be watching wolves starving to death. Welcome to planet earth.
Why the frown? Wolves have to eat too, not only to stay warm and healthy but to feed their young ones. Graphic? Yes. Nature? Yes. Turn that frown upside down!
Finally, someone gets it :)
You don't need to say "reply back"; simply say reply; that is ignorant, and unneccesary repetition. To reply means to answer.
Where's PETA?
This is how the world works. If you can't take it, feel free to check out any time you like.
What am I doing here ? I started with Leona Lewis - Run... WTF
I started with the Rolling Stones
I video nature and photograph wildlife. I would record this because it is what I do. People who enjoy nature understand the cycle of nature. People that are ignorant to nature make ridiculous comments about things they don't understand.

This is nature hard at work. Real as it gets!
I have a question.
How is it so wrong for Chinese people to eat fish that is still quivering after taking a minute or two to kill it? When wolves eat deer alive?? HOW???

Really? which ones? that don't do it because it makes eating it easier?
If you had a job where you could afford groceries, you wouldn't hate these awsome predators that are loved by so many. Can't afford to buy meat at a grocery store?
awwww they are so cute eating a deer alive
Why would u just sit there recording and not help the deer??? LMAO jk but werent you scared those wolves might come after you next?
Not completly true. Ever seen a cat play with a baby bird for fun? They usually end up chewing its wings and when its to weak to move leave it there to die then come back later and drag it around.
One Word: TASTY!!!!

The deer knew what would happen if it got caught, and it just wasn't fast enough. It paid the price. It's the circle of life.
The female did attempt to bite down on the neck of the prey. Hunger is a strong thing... She couldnt help but dig in.
Some animals at least have the decency to kill the prey before eating it.
I'm not picking a fight, and I intend for you to do the same if you reply back, but the deer IS more than just "food." It is a living being just like you and I. Humans are also just "food" then.
You're suposed to shoot wolves with a rifle, not a camera!
This is nature dude, if you have a problem with it don't watch it.
and that's why most people watch nature videos.
that is what I thought..large cats have some really big fangs that can penetrate and kill but animals dont have a sense of empathy...they just dont want their food moving....

Welcome to Nature. Manners are not required.
Good footage, thats nature!
The deer got humiliated
ouch
So if a wolf kills a deer slowly and painfully, it's totally ok, but if a human kills a wolf quick and painless (even out of defense) he's a sadistic monster?
Wolves are actually my favorite canine, but I am so sick of how hunters or people who shoot them to protect themselves or their livestock are demonized. At least a person has the good grace to kill the animal he shoots before he eats it.
guys, hush. their animals. they don't know "respect" or right from wrong. All they know is that its food.
I hope every single wolfaboo sees this video. Looks like their "wolfs" aren't so preshus and harmlezz anymore, huh?
Also, to any wolfaboo who stumbles across this comment: You can't use the animal vs human argument. Humans ARE animals.
ALL KINDS OF PROTEIN
get real, this is raw nature
It's obviously sad that the deer had to endure that while still alive, but... damn Nature, you scary!
Yes!
this is our planet and trust me people are doing this to each other but in other ways
@ruj1970 Interesting, have you ever had the opportunity to watch wolves in the wild doing what they do best, survive? Think it's easy to kill your meal every time you or your family feels hungry? Majestic.
I hate how this is linked to my TH-cam account btw.
there is a checkbox when you reply on youtube. Uncheck it before you post and it won't show up here.
Cool, thanks.
Thanks, Tony. :-(
Tony Nokeo Yep. See here is a bloodthirsty wolfpimp right now.
@ruj1970 Watch closely "Dying for fur, Part two" if you are strong enough and after think about who you want to insult.

Ha! There are your precious 'innocent' wolves, fools. Just think. They would do the exact same thing to you, given the chance.
Your kidding, right? Your own comment fits your description far more than mine.

They have no choice. They have no one to "cook" for them.
Tumblr is full of folksy hipster fucks who have boners for wolves. Morons don't realize these animals would rip them to shreds before they have a chance to take a picture, put a shitty filter on it and post it to their hipstagram.

yea maybe those wolves should farm vegetables an eat tofu for a living get a life people crying over a deer REALLY o.O
MOBB SHITT No just die. We don't need wolves. No ecosystem BS which was proven to be bad koolaid. They should all just go die.
Laurie Campbell We? You decided it for whole world? Well I suggest that you speak for your self. Who cares what you - hateful pipsqueak - needs.

Carnivores especially when they have not eaten for a long time, do eat prey when the prey is still alive. It happens more often than most people realise.Nature is effectively efficient and cruel.
@villanovakid84 That's really the only lame insult you can make up? It's getting old, you need some new material.
Nature can be brutal
frozen anyone?
Wolves gotta eat
I wish wolves were allowed in public XD
Well, I suppose they could have spit out the meat they were biting off killing it until it was dead out of respect. Otherwise, yeah, so?
I will show these to people, when they say how terrible humans are, how much better and noble wild animals are. at least we'll try to kill the thing before we eat.
Wolves have no moral standards. Maybe the deer was sick so the wolves had catch it easily. But some people who should have moral standards skin animals when they are still alive and are able to do other cruelty to many animals and at least to other people.
