The pre boiler on the sap pan is key. We use to always have that trickling into the main pan and not loose the boil.

Great job! I still miss the kayaking to the trees but I bet you don't. Lol. Have a wonderful day. My brothers are doing a lot of maple syrup right now too. It's wonderful! Have a great day tomorrow. Take Care! Karen

when you pour it, it looks like maple water .. not syrupy at all. Does that thicken up only later as it cools down? Or is it more viscose in real life than we see on the video?

When it is at that temp it is much thinner, once cooled it is thick

It's maple syrup you don't add any sugar.

most trees produce sap that runs about 2% sugar, you boil it down and it ends up about 67% sugar

Hey there--great video!! I'm just starting on the syrup journey, as I live in an urban setting with some woods but limited maples. My biggest question is finishing the syrup. I worry about the evaporation in the house. Once you get to the "finishing" stage, is there any concern about turning your kitchen into a sugar shack?

It isn’t bad for finishing as long as you aren’t finishing 100 gallons:)

@@SSLFamilyDad Thanks for that! With my one silver maple, so far in two days I've gotten about 10 gallons. Don't think I'll hit that mark :)

Can you do this with any kind of tree? Obviously not maple syrup if it's not a maple tree. But I'm curious if you can make other syrups?

Birch trees and black walnut are possible but not as good!
