Depardieu, since I was 10 when I began to go to the cinema (in the provinces I could see the "prohibited under 13s" covered by my parents' absolution.) has remained at the very forefront of French cinema. Even if I always - and by a lot - preferred Patrick Dewaere, the Depardieu who faced Robert de Niro in Bertolucci's 1900 was still a hell of an actor. But let's move on. The Depardieu of the films with .B Blier, Preparez vos mouchoirs and, more than anything, Buffet froid (a masterpiece for me, with Berrnard blier, father of the director, Michel Serrault, one the greatest french actor of the last forty years and Jean Carmet, splendid as supporting actor), was a splendid actor. He dominated (with Dewaere! I care) French cinema for almost twenty years. But for quite a while now, he hasn't been filming anything good and has become a caricature of himself. I prefer not to talk about his dirty stories which the courts are currently looking into. But just from a cinematographic point of view, what a shame! he did not know how to choose his roles, by wanting to reign alone over French cinema, he sterilized himself, taking on all the projects, even the worst. Today, I'm afraid he's in trouble. As for his déclaration on Putin, what can we say? Provocation? unconsciousness? does he want to meet the “greats” (meh) of this world? that's his business, but what a shame. And what a spit in the face of authentic heroes like Politkovskaya. Ah, Cyrano, the real one, would not have acted like this... Now...there remains Depardieu, the man who gave birth to his mother alone, who earned his living at 13 by trading with American soldiers on surplus goods (no one was really robbed), the guy who had never read a book at 18 and who now does shows on the confessions of Saint Augustine. In many ways, he's a monster. But this is also what makes him unique, different from all those who have not had to suffer and fight.

You'd think the narrator would learn to pronounce French names and words before he started recording. Very unprofessional.
He is one of my all-time favorite actors--I've never seen him in a movie where his role was not believeable and superbly-acted!
