Just told my mum that I think I am on the spectrum ( I'm 56)
I’m almost 50 and got diagnosed at age 47 there are a lot of us out there. I know a person who got diagnosed at age 66.
I was diagnosed at 53. Agree with @madberry - there's a whole lost generation of us out here.
Diagnosed at 55 here. How did your mum react?
@danab3591 she's new to this thought, but didn't dismiss it. My son, age 29, was recently diagnosed, so we broke that news first.. I gave her some " homework" to investigate autisme in late diagnosed women.

Thank you for another awesome porch coffee Claire! It's been a rough week for me (again), though I finally realized that it likely stems from a disruption in my schedule because of family stuff, so hopefully I can adjust and get myself back on track this week. I had more I was going to say, but I'm feeling anxious about some things that need doing, so perhaps I will comment on this later. As always, thanks so much for your openness and vulnerability - it is so helpful and grounding.
For us knowing truly is half the battle.

Thanks for sharing. Fairly momentous week this past week. I hit 15 years sobriety yesterday! Packing up and preparing to move to my own house! Moving my mother up here and she closed on her house last Friday. So, yeah, lots going on!

I did the autistic thing and researched memberships and gifting memberships to death before gifting so here is the lowdown.
You can’t gift memberships on a membership live stream. You can’t gift memberships from your phone or tablet it has to be a laptop or desktop pc. Memberships are dispersed by TH-cam totally at random. For you to get a gifted membership you have to be a subscriber and you have to interact with the channel, so comment and like under videos. As far as I can find the cut is pretty much the same as a super chat. The reason I like gifting memberships is I like to support Claire but it’s also fun that others get a gift as well. They get the same perks all members have so they can watch membership live stream replays and watch this month’s membership live stream and join in on the fun. Every membership live stream(how ever cursed it is) we have a bunch of laughs and interesting conversations. You’re also able to use the members only emoticons so that fun as well. So if you’re able to afford the $1,99 a month to support the channel it’s worth it in my book.
Unfortunately they haven’t developed membership gifting enough yet where I can gift specific people a membership (you know who you are) but it would be fun if they did so.
My week was quiet I’m trying to get over the “maybe it’s too early after burnout” thing. I will be in my music/leather room later today. I’m exited to start crafting again it’s been way too long. I have a busy week planned I actually cancelt going to a concert yesterday because I think it would be to much. But you’ll have to tune in next Monday to figure out what happens this week.

I am too tecnic-stupid to even manage to get a credit card online (never had and needed one before, we have this EC (Eurocard) here in Germany free with normal bank-accounts, this always worked well for me. If I order grocery or other things they just book it from my account directly or I am sent a bill and then I pay via online-banking (Überweisung). But for the US-companies unfortunatly not, so I need a Visa or mastercard now, okay. But therefor I have to go out to a bank in the city and that´s a no-go at the moment. It is possible online, but I can´t figure out how and don´t understand that "tecnic-language" and am scared to make a mistake ("and then I am robbed", panic starts). It feels a bit frustrating to have money but not to be able to spend it on things because I am too stupid.
Now I finally found out how to install PayPal after more then two years I created an account but never knew where now this imaginary "PayPal" is and what I should do to pay with it. Contacted the customer service online, they did not even understand the problem I had. Gave up. Then two (?) weeks ago watching a longer video on YT I had the idea to search, if maybe there exists a video in german language what PayPal exactly is and how one uses it. Never had that idea before and felt even more stupid for that. I mean, they said I was tested high intelligent as a kid, have so much knowledge in other things, but am not able to do practical things like that or come to that simple idea for years needing help with it, that is so strange! I really felt ashamed and same time had to laugh about myself and the situation when it showed me a channel that explains computer/online-things to "seniors over 50" (thanks algorythm, I am not even fifty, but fair enough) . After that video I went back on the PayPal-website and since then I am now able to use it easily... Was so happy about!
And then went back on Claires website trying to get all of the mugs and the sticker to be a "Mug Club Member", wanted to get No.183 (special number for me) last week. Just to find out no, no PayPal, it is a creditcard needed (I forgot, tried out before when I didn´t have both). Argh! I feel like a granny in those things.
Also tried to make an instagram-account to use this messenger and see pictures podcasts show there to the listened stories years ago. Was - surprise - too stupid, it showed me "name is not free", changed the name, then "name and password don´t get together", but I was never able to correct it or create new, because then it says I already have one but I was never ever able to sign in and use it. It is so ridicolous.
So how to get a channel-member is not even something I would think about, I KNOW I will not be able :-))) But if in future I know I definitly want to gift some too, sounds fun.
And anyways I think the streams are always when it is nighttime here, or?
I like this new-found community here on YT a lot, but it got a bit too time-consuming for me, never used any other social media, so I guess it is a learning I have to do.
I am actually (for two-three weeks now ) trying to hire a paid assistant (which is also not so easy with low online skills and not leaving the house to find one) who then helps me with those things here in person at my home. Sad thing is I don´t get 183 then, if today it went on 182, but it is how it is.
I think I am wrong in the second millenium, I love that society moved on and for example queer people, women etc. have more rights now, but I guess I still function a lot on "living maximum in the early 90ties"-mode when there was no internet, cellphones, no private companies You have to choose for getting electricity or other things, it was just official government electricity, post, telephone etc. and You were told what to do and just pay. It was slower, less choices, not so overwhelming. It´s the "I want freedom but I hate freedom"-dilemma.
So, Props on You to have figured it out, genius ;-)
I went to the "Basic" programming-club at school age 11/12. I was able to program a rocket that started on the ground and "flew" up on the monitor. Was fun. But never had an own computer or smartphone then til some years ago, wlan at home since 2021 and guess missed out a lot.

@katzenbekloppt2412 I'm from Germany too 👋. I don't know about the membership livestreams, but the spontaneous yarn live wasn't at night as far as I remember.
So how was my week? Not as bad as I anticipated last monday. But I do feel a bit strange today, because I'm a good mood today. It's weird because none of the issues I worried about last week went away, no they're all still unresolved and I have a migraine (managable with painkillers though) and I'm still recovering from last weeks wrist surgery.
I guess I'm grateful for the little celebration of my husbands and my 10th wedding anniversary. Of course I thought of cancelling all week, fighting my perfectionism during the preperations and worrying if all of the guests would come.
So glad I didn't cancel. Everyone was there, seemed to enjoy themselves, and, after weeks of heavy rain, even the weather turned out nice. We were just 8 people, close friends.
And the cherry on top is that altough I have to do the cleanup and I my body isn't feeling well, my family left me mostly alone today. My kid came back from school went to bed straight away. So I can rest a little bit and enjoy a little weird good mood 😂.

The sunshine was amazing. And we celebrated a 1000 years celebration. Accompanied with a festval including a Viking village. So much fun. :) My kids loved it (as did I), although I am quite tired. @@j-ivey Yeah it can be but it gets better. For me the diagnosis started out with a bit of a grieving process about what could have been if diagnosed earlier. But it’s good to know what you’re dealing with so you can figure out strategies to make your life better.
@@madberry Man... I definitely feel that grief these days. I'm mid-forties and that's a lot of life to live without understanding what I was struggling with. You get it.
My week was busy but fun. I went to several concerts with my daughter…her passion is music and it’s my main special interest. I definitely enjoy it but need some downtime after to regain my spoons. Hope everyone has a good week and as Claire says, be kind to yourself!

Had a bowl of soymilk-coffee, cardamon and cinnamon this morning (time zone so it is always middays here), but will join with an early afternoon snack (toasties with pistacio-spread and sordoughbread with vegan egg-salad) and just simple tabwater.
Week was busy not doing really something big, just internet-research and household, preparing for packet-delivery and afterwards recovery from it ;-)
Was pretty "okay", and I am fine with that. At least nothing really bad happened.
Baught the macrame-cord to give chrocheing another try, because anyway I want a liitle basket for my bed-table to put all this little things into it (Stim-"toys", ear-protection cases, laserpointer for cat, some vegan caramel candy, new touchpen, loading cables, etc. all that small things bothering me lying around but I want them next to my bed easy to grab)
I don't like coffee, but I like your porch coffee talks! Thanks! I'm drinking herb tea while Daisy, my puppy of 3 months old, sleeps. We got her to be my buddy dog and I love her so much ❤

It's so nice to be having coffee with you again. It's taking me more time to heal from my school year teacher burnout this year. So I'm trying to be kind to myself and patient. I have things planned for summer break. Fun things I've looked forward to. But the fatigue is still really getting to me. I'm going to schedule a much needed and overdue physical/doctor's visit.

Open AI is more about demonstrating the product than customer experience. I had an AI telemarketer call me. It was trying some psychological trick trying to match the quality of my voice. I was sick at the time, so it sounded like it was mocking me.

This week I am visiting my mom. Taking time to relax too. I'm doing my vacations differently since knowing I'm on the spectrum and scheduling in down time. It helps so much.
I rearranged my bedroom furniture, to accommodate a new chest of drawers for craft stuff. This led me to rearrange the living room too. Lots of work, but I'm pleased with the result. Hoping to get more done in the garden in the next few days. As to The Circle, I've never seen it but 'most popular gains financial advantage' sounds like neurotypical society condensed to a single phrase.

My week was good. I'm feeling more peaceful inside, I think. I also gave a gift to someone and it felt so awkward. It may have been socially questionable, not sure, but I decided to take the risk. I'm still unsure of some social rules. Nothing bad happened so I guess all is well lol.

You do have to have the option to allow gifts turned on to get gifted membership. Also, if your channel is branded, you can't get or be gifted memberships. I hope this helps.

there is an ALLOW GIFTS button on Live Chat. I got gifted membership from a channel I have not subscribed to. and also a more settings (3 dots) button when you click JOIN button
The Opt-in thing isn't needed any ore as far as I'm aware. They had that in the beginning of the memberships but now everybody that interact with the channel is eligible.

Hey Claire, glad you are taking care of you first, lol the cursed members lives...blimey let's hope the next one goes better. But life would be boring if it was the same every week wouldn't it.
We went out on Saturday for an few hours with a friends who lives in London but is originally from Colombia and his sister who is visiting from Colombia. We have known him for 30 years this year and we hardly ever get to meet up now, so it was nice to see them both again.
It took myself and the kids ages to feel normal again I fell asleep early and only got up once to clean my teeth I didn't move until 5pm the following day, I just couldn't find the motivation and that was only to make dinner for everyone, Thai Green Curry, but after that I felt ok.
Today the kids went back to school after a week of half term and we lost the lizard while he was out so spent 3 hours looking for him instead of doing stuff I should be doing 🙄, and I had towage through the piles of clothing in our youngest's room to seenif Rocket was there... I found him under the sink... he was t very happy I found him so k had to slide him out wearing an oven glove after that he was happy to have hugs, it's the first time he has hissed at me lol but he's all mouth and no trousers , but had flattened his tummy out soo flat and with him being spikey I could get hold of him... it was quite a display of mini anger... then he realised he loves me and my heat and forgot how upset he originally was... and that's me...I have a mound of 3 weeks worth of to washing for the youngest and Rocket is a naughty boy that's it that's all I have 😂
glad the lizard was found! my sister kept very small lizards growing up, they would escape the enclosure and we would find them months later dried up somewhere :(
Yesterday I told my family doctor about my autism diagnosis, and today I told my immediate family. Big couple of days! They all handled it way better than I’d expected, and I’m relieved not to be carrying this info alone anymore! I was carrying a lot of stress just thinking about their responses. Hopefully my sleep will improve now that this worry is over.

I believe the gifted membership thing may be based on if one commented recently on the video in question based on the patterns i observed in other channels, i typically do not speak much on livestreams so i have never recieved any gifted memberships.
Speaking in livestreams doesn’t influence the gift system as long as you interact with the channel you might receive a gifted membership.
We all struggle. Some more than others. Sometimes hard to discern how much to share what to hold and not to 💞💙🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💙💞
Don´t have a TV for decades now, but since covid a shared netflix-account whith a long watchlist I never manage to watch then. I guess very typical. But I mostly watch serials and I am not even sure, if in Germany there are shows on netlix. Never heard of that and I think I don´t want to watch it.
But I loved the story that You prefered the robot😆🤖 😂!
And Claire, I needed 40 years to cancel apointments or say no before🤷
I guess the fact that I saw the members only livestream in my feed should have been the first clue that I had a gifted membership

The year just began…and now it’s June. What is going on?! I noticed some time back you were really putting a lot of content out plus all of your behind the scenes work. I was woah, I hope Claire takes it easy and doesn’t over do it. I’m noticing this more down time and feel with quite a few autistic content creators of late. I've gotten a gifted membership for another channel, but I was in the chat at the time I did. There have been a lot of times I didn't get any memberships...
Oh, I think there's also something you have to turn on somewhere to accept gift memberships (and it kept turning off for me) I'm not sure where to go to turn it on. I think if you click the thing when someone gifts it'll prompt you to turn it on... (doesn't mean you'll get one that time, it just turns it on so that you can). I think... not sure...

@@WoodshedTheory I just looked it up. You need to click the JOIN on the channel page. It opens box... at the top, next to the X, there are three little vertical dots, if you click that, there's an option for GIFT SETTINGS and you can turn it on there. (apparently mine was already on for your channel, since I used your channel to try and figure it out).

It gets better after some time, but then people react not understanding how You present now for them, why You are not like they are used to, get somehow angry. In new situations now people treated me as I am mentally ill/brain-injured/have severe learning disability, it is strange, interesting to see and makes me sad and angry same time. It is hard, but also good. Still figuring it out. In the beginning I had just vague ideas of how it could work. Felt very unsecure to say how I feel and with what I really struggle. To ask for help or just simple things like planned written communication and to explain why. It is a work in progress (48 now).
Sometimes I feel ashamed showing my true self, feel weak and unsafe then. There are definitly situations masking makes sense to protect You. But it gets difficult once I startet unmasking to go back for me. And it gave me back some energy I can now spend on other things, which is nice.
That’s the question. Been masking my whole life. How do you know who you are and if you are being authentic ???
@kellyschroeder7437 therapy has helped me, and trying to notice what my preferences are, what I want in life, even small details. Noticing what regulates me and doing those things.

I often relate more to robots than people in films and books. I Robot, A.I, Ex machina, Blade runner etc. I'm a monster, a monster I tell you, mwah, ha, ha, ha...sigh

my week was uneventful but intense at the same time, like the last few of them have been. having this much time off work hasn't happened to me in a few years now, so it was really exciting to see the difference with all the mental health progress i made since then. may have spotted some adhd traits in my mix even, which is no surprise since i think of them as two sides of the same coin anyways. just never saw it in myself so clearly.

As an artsy person, AI offends me. But I think being a contestant in reality TV is the perfect use of AI.
(I also like it in other admin/executive function assistant uses. But the arts are a no go, and I hate it in my search results. And I don't like the idea that it will get better at it and I won't know that what I am looking at is not real.)
Ai misses one very important thing when creating art and that’s the emotion an artist can express in work.
i completely agree - i think the ai being a hidden gameshow character is the perfect use, shouldn't be using them in the arts and it is really bugging me in the search results. There is a reason knowing sources is so important.

Just at least checking in to say, "Hi." And... sorry that I haven't written a lot. Week is busy... Very, VERY busy season of life right now. Lots of personal stuff that probably won't discuss here but one thing I can tell you though... I officially have my written diagnosis confirming that I am indeed AuDHD. Once I got that... well, that's when things really took off and I'm still not 100% certain I've fully absorbed all of the ramifications of what it all means yet despite this happening late April. Hope everyone here is having a good week!

@@WoodshedTheory I definitely have some reading to do as I've had some book recommendations tossed at me. Some of those I read as prepping for the diagnostic, but the ADHD side... I haven't really reviewed those books yet.
hey claire, hope you're doing okay, i've been awol as i was burned out and had to focus on my last Open University module and getting in my last piece of work. now i just have to wait to see if i get my degree at the end of july. i've been sewing for therapy and doing some steampunk stuff for a friend and i have a skirt for another one to do. it's relaxing after computer work. how is the garden doing? any loofahs? hope you get the livestream stuff sorted
