  • In this video, I probably demonstrate a method to troubleshoot and repair a 12 volt charging system's voltage rectifier regulator. Many cars, trucks and motorcycles have them and they are easy to fix if you can find rectifier shims and micro collider rings.

    As a professional electronics tech… I literally sat here dumbfounded for the first 60 seconds of the video. I had NO IDEA this was satire and honestly Got confused, and that weird dizzy feeling like I’m in a dream or something. i’m constantly hearing crazy off-the-wall shit and advice from inexperienced folks on the Internet… especially in regards to circuit troubleshooting. But your delivery was so bland and dead pan… I was just kind of blown away to the point of questioning my own electronics knowledge for a second 😂 like a really bad case of déjà vu or feeling like you just walked into the twilight zone!!!

    Surprised you did not check the smoke capsule inside the rectifier unit. If anything goes wrong the rectifier ruptures it to signal to the user it has failed. Some have a scent not unlike burning wood added to give a visual and sensory failure warning. After overhauling the rectifier it is important to replace the smoke capsule to reset the failure warning system. I keep a stock of spare smoke capsules in my shop as seem to need a lot of them when working on older bikes.

    • @LinusNil
      @LinusNil 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you got this wrong. As far as I know, the actual cause of electronics breaking is when the smoke leaks out. That's why I always make sure that my electronic devices are properly sealed. Unfortunately lots of electronic equipment have big holes in them. I suspect it is part of the "planned obsolescence" that most manufacturers deal with in order to sell more product. They intentionally let the smoke out. Shame on them!

    dear Ichiban Moto you just brought back some memories from old gone days when I had my bike shop. I offered people to fit "half a power band" from a GSXR1100 on their NSR125. And if I thought they could handle the increase in power, I'd offer to add a few more "capers" to their "capering system". But the best one was the prank I played to Harley owners, I won't mention it as this place is full of touchy Harley owners and when they all thumb me down at the same time I lose my ability to comment on youtube, so I'll just shut the fuck up

    I am missing those days when shims where cheap, now it costs more than the complete rectifier.

    put your resin filled rectifier in the microwave and it will become liquid , keep the liquid on a hot stove , repair the rectifier and pour the liquid back in . put it in the fridge for one hour to harden the resin back to normal.

    Could this be draining my 4 wheeler battery? Did you just touch the light to the diodes?

    Quantum Entanglement can be both a blessing and a curse. In these cases, you can use QE to access the internals. No need to Dremmel the cases open. Also, the best electrical bonding cement can be undone with the application of Acetone (fingernail polish remover) so even if QE wasn't initiated by the manufacturer, you can still get many of these cases open. Beware that Acetone causes bronchitis so don't use it around.

    I couldn't help but notice that in the upper right corner of the package with the new rectifier shims was a silhouette picture of a girl with a ponytail. I was wondering if it was of any significance? Possibly that the shims come as male and female components, much like plumbing fittings? Also, is the electrical grade assembly glue you use to reassemble the unit a standard item available from our friends at Nickletown Customs, or is it a standard off-the-shelf item available at my local grocer?

      tpitman that is Princess Yen, ¥, the retail price. Nickel Town Customs does carry the assembly glue as well as various specialist shops.

    cannot do this on a motor cycle VR, the electronics are covered with epoxy, for stable use during road bumps, pot holes and if you have a Harley the engine vibration.
