    Excellent video. I've been thinking about what I wanted to do with my steering instead of what I originally had planned. You explained it great. Did a good job with the details and measurements. And your work looks spot on. I'll be looking for more videos.

    thanks for the video ,the plates are 3 9/32 high. can you please let me know the width of the plates and the exact position of the 1 31/32 hole in reference to the distance from the middle of the hole to the top of the plate

    Looks good, what thickness of steel are the flanges made of?

    The steering box is casted..Would the MIG welding be strong enough? I tried to weld a litlle tab and a little effort broke it...

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have to torch the cast iron basically red hot right before you mig weld it

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also I have a big 220v welder that is made for that type of welding

    Awesome video! I see now that the rear exhaust port is going to be tight! Whats the plan with the headers? I am sure they are going to be custom.

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I am going to be making custom laker headers! And the box is just underneath the rear exhaust port, I plan on making the header in that area slightly arch over the top, and I am going to be doing header wrap that I am also going to use on the radiator hoses to match

    • @lowhunggarage9519
      @lowhunggarage9519 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WiredCustomsSpeedShop that sounds bad ass, are you going to be doing a how to on the lakesters?

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t plan on doing a “How To” video but it will definitely be in one of my Vintage Dragster series videos, I’m not the king at everything and doing headers is very labor intensive for me, to slow down and make a good video and explain every step would take too long lol

    Are you going to be able to get the parts to rebuild the box or does it need it?

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am pretty lucky that my box doesn’t need to be rebuilt, but it’s easy to find parts for it, all the bushings didn’t have any play in them!

    Great video, I'm working on my '35 steering column and steering box at the moment. Nice Persols by-the-way! Still planning to ship you my tranny but, issues delayed the project.

  • @tomkrause62
    @tomkrause62 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And now your steering column is right in the way of the rear exhaust port?

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The column is just underneath the rear exhaust port, I am running laker headers so it’s perfect, I’m sorry I didn’t say that in the video, box placement depends on the build, some guys put the box further back to have more room to run the exhaust down, center dups also work really well to move around the box

    @Templar1930 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm just about to start this myself, can I ask, is it ok to weld onto cast metal? I mean obviously you did it here but I've been told not to in the past.

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can weld cast iron but it’s way more technical, you need at least a 220 welder and you need to preheat the cast. If it’s something you’ve never done before I would suggest taking it to a welding shop if you’re going to weld anything that’s safety related
