  • International Odissi Festival was conceptualised as a tribute to the legendary Guru Shri Deba Prasad Das by Bansi Bilash, Bhubaneswar. The first of its kind inviting both national and international dancers in Odissi dance, it was an attempt to document the nuances of all different Gurukuls in Odissi with lecture demonstrations in the mornings and performances in the evenings. A treasure trove, these recordings would bring an art enthusiast closer to the authentic dance traditions in Odissi.
Leela Venkataraman, an acclaimed dance critic, writes for The Hindu and Sruti magazine. Widely traveled, she has spoken at international seminars and festivals. Her notable works include 'Indian Classical Dance: Tradition in Transition' and 'A Dancing Phenomenon - Birju Maharaj.' In this video, she shares her views on Guru Deba Prasad Das during the the International Odissi festival in the morning session.
