this is the honest review i was looking for, from someone who rode the thing and added some bling!! ...........just bought a 2015 model and its awesome!!
I miss my Diavel! My only beef with the Diavel after 4 years of ownership was that headlight switch. I’ll buy another one as soon as I can. 2021 S model looks mighty fine!
Thank you for your good review! I have mine since february 2011 and 15000 km done.. (lot of free time) and I think you really said everything I would say... Well Done!
Great review and it really explained the fact that its NOT a cruiser, nor a sportsbike- but a mix of the two. It does many things exceptionally well, along with all of that power. But, the practical side of me must pause, because of parts (tires are special order!) and the inability to safely cruise any long distances. But, for an around the State bike, which includes beach boulevards, nicely paved mountain roads and some gorgeous scenic backroads- I think it would be a true winner. It's unique in looks, its character, and in almost every measureable manner, but, it defies any categorization! Alas, 3,000 miles is but a busy month for me. I think this bike needs more like 15,000 + to really get to know (one man's humble opinion, tho!) I really thik the 2015 model fixes the low RPM struggle, along with some nice upgrades: seat, LED lights...
I own the 2011 model brought it at 7000ks done 11000ks so happy I got it under 18g let alone 30g for a super bike motor stock with brembos abs and traction control all required to handle our weather and appalling roads in nz.The name Diavel over rides the law abiding rider into who's winning races and the amount of time spare before other riders turn up or play catch up after letting riders go ahead .it does make other bikes look little yet feels nimble considering the bulk look which sometimes make the average rider to scared to get on if they hadn't already asked power output . I've always wanted a Ducati over 1000cc thought it never would happen and it did. Despite exhaust emissions and sound I've finally got the sound I heard as a child 30years later.😎
170mph on My 2013 Red Carbon Diavel, ( according to the owners manual the speed displayed is 5% over actual speed). But my understanding is that with a Rexxer reflash of the ECU or Using the Tuneboy to remap alot more is possible. also the bike has incredible torque through out the RPM range
Alişen Koyuncu Yes they can! There is a plastic cower that cowers the rear of the seat. You can remove that if you want. There is footpegs for the passenger to, even tho they are hard to see.
Didn’t refine its own genre. Just followed the footsteps of vmax and created some competition for it. Better description for this would be a muscle sport tourer imo. Only huge difference between the diavel and vmax is basically foot position
This bike does so many different things very well. It can cruise around town, even with a passenger, or it can be a real beast if you want. Handles amazing, very easy to ride. Tour long distances.....not so much, but it could if you could. Oh yeah, and there is nothing else that looks this sexy and mean at the same time.
i realize this was a while ago, but do you happen to remember the mandated service intervals for the Diavel, or how much it costs since you didn't really cover cost of ownership?
Bought a brand new 2013 Ducati Diavel from Coleman Powersport in Woodbridge Virginia. After just 81 miles it got overheated due to a faulty thermostat. The dealer replaced the thermostat and checked the bike over, but it continued to have other issues. I took the bike back to the dealer a few times, called them numerous times, and finally decided to cut my loss and sold the bike for pennies. And that was my last Ducati!
How can you say changing the exhaust isn't necessary! It completely transformed the bike for me! (although i didn't get the termi, i got a slip on made by competition werkes) It made the bike lighter, respond better, and gave more power and torque. " Also, if anyone is planing on getting this bike, get a Tune Boy for it and remap the ECU. (no need to replace the ECU when you get a different exhaust)
@ballereast it's true, ducati it's all about performance because it doesn't make anything else, try to do a corner with a ducati or a japanese bike, see who's faster on the road...
@binky4647 trick is I already have 3 mo'sickles and honest to goodness find that feeding bikes is more expensive than feeding the full sized sedan. Pay to play I understand but this motorcycle love is gonna drive me to the poorhouse. No denying all the great reports about this bike, no denying at all but honestly still have struggles with 'over styling' that likely immediately vanish once sat atop and piloting. "styling"...and I love ugly bikes. Rocket, speed trip, etc..
How does it compare to a 1700 Yamaha Vmax? Both bikes have equal engine size although the Yam is a V4. However, the Vmax is pretty much the pioneer in terms of "Powerful cruiser". Any demo/comparative video any soon?
You are right. Sorry, I mis-read the specs! Still, a Diavel with a few options won't be far off a vmax in terms of price. So it would be interesting to see a comparative video! ;)
djlyonol In UK prices a standard Diavel is £14K, while the Vmax is £21.5K. You can buy more than a few options for £7.5K. Plus the difference in engine size is more than comparing a 600 to a 1000.
Candleman Smith Currently own my second Diavel, old model and now the new 2015 version. Not had a problem with either. In fact, I've not had a problem with any Ducati that I've owned - 999s, 848 Evo, Diavel, 1199s and Diavel. The only brand I've had any trouble with was Aprilia. Both my RSV and RSV4 ate batteries if they weren't used regularly over the winter.
Candleman Smith Sounds like you were just unlucky, but that's all it really needs to sour the experience. Every brand will turn out some bikes with duff parts in them. Ducati now does it a lot less frequently than it used to. Plus they finally worked out that they need seal the electrics against water. The 2005 999s that I owned had 20k miles on the clock and was in better condition than a 2005 R1 I test rode with similar mileage. It's often luck of the draw. Even Hondas go wrong sometimes.
Great video! Really want to get one. Does it require a lot of maintenance more than other sport bikes? My Ducati shop is far and I would like to avoid having to bring it in for constant work.
How was the throttle response after you had the Termi's and ECU upgraded? Does it suffer from that Ducati Sub 4,000 RPM lurching? I'm riding a Hyper EVO SP and made the exhaust mod, and flat out it's fantastic, but in town has lots of lurching sub 4k. Thanks for any response, I'm planning on this being my next ride.
Thanks for the review. I want one of these this spring. One question, I'm 6'2" and 210lbs. Is this bike going to feel cramped on a long ride? You look tall enough and may offer some good feedback
He said he had the bike from end of april this year, (2011) so from may-september he did 3000 miles on that time, i would agree that is long term in miles counted. Not many drive that much in so little time.
this VMAX is a sport bike or i meant Diavel. it just has a taller tank. if u look at the back portion of the bike all of it is sport bike dimensions. if the handle bar was placed the same way as a sport bike this would not be very much different to a sport bike, only the tank would be awkward. i don't see no new genre here, it's basically a super naked
My reluctance to ever getting a ducati was the fear of having sticker shock during the ownership period of "feeding" this mistress. love em, but I'm the kind of guy that buys a bike with the intention of keeping it forever, so I have huge concerns about bikes and their reliability well beyond the end of the extended warranty period. It is good to hear that your experience so far has been a positive one. 3,000 miles isn't that much so keep piling on the miles and report. So far it sounds gr8t.
Well anytime it’s an aftermarket part, you purchase AFTERMARKET. Manufacturers sell factory oem parts. Why in the world would they ever promote an aftermarket brand? Basically would be the manufacturer admitting that their vehicle needs improvements.. 🤦🏼♂️ Have you been living under a rock??
@ballereast Agreed on the fastest bikes best riders but MotoGP is not a true representation of real world performance. Sure some tech trickles from MotoGP to production bikes but MotoGP is primarily about 3 things 1) rider 2) team and 3) R&D $ the company has to back their "factory" (a small unit charged with 1 prototype). Honda has more of 3 than anyone hence fastest bike this year. On the flip side Stoner (and Capirossi) won the constructor championship for Ducati when he was with them
Why can't bike reviewers just review the stock bike. Aftermarket stuff worth thousands on an expensive bike is great fantasy but let me know about what ducati make.
Can’t even compare the 2. Completely different bikes. Better comparison for a zx14r would be the h2, h2r or hayabusa. A proper comparison to the diavel, would be a vmax
wouldn't you have thought that the money you pay for ducati they would have already had plastic lugs/caps in the frame to stop the road grime getting in.......i bet those pipes were an arm and a leg plus VAT for another ten horses.....for looks though, still too much money, and they dont look too much different than stock at first glance apart from the name badge, shame that all modern bikes are getting physically smaller these days,i would be spending some cash with my chiropracter if it was mine
@motorcyclenewsdotcom lol ok, but i'm staying on the same idea as ever, ducati is a good bike, with the best noise of them all, but there are lots of better bikes aout there...
Currently i Own a maxed out 2007 Victory Kingpin. weighing in at 700 pounds with a massive 106 Cubic Inch V-Twin im pushing 130 horses at the wheel "probably about 125 now" with about equal torque. my max speed is 125mph. Excellent long term report. Ian Jubb, you did a fantastic job, I like the clarity and the lucid details that you spoke about.
He will slap your wife for free too! such a gent....
Mine is delivered on Tuesday cant wait !!
Simon Foster How did it go?
Great review, honesty, to the point and covers pretty much everything
I miss my Diavel! My only beef with the Diavel after 4 years of ownership was that headlight switch. I’ll buy another one as soon as I can. 2021 S model looks mighty fine!
thanks for the review mate. good to hear that your only worries are a bit of paint and dust caps ;)
Thank you for your good review!
I have mine since february 2011 and 15000 km done.. (lot of free time)
and I think you really said everything I would say...
Well Done!
Thank you and i have one the same and love it its the nieces and best looking bike so far and runs like a dream
My bro in law is getting rid of his Monster soon and buying a Diavel, are they good?

What exhaust do you have?
170mph on My 2013 Red Carbon Diavel, ( according to the owners manual the speed displayed is 5% over actual speed). But my understanding is that with a Rexxer reflash of the ECU or Using the Tuneboy to remap alot more is possible.
also the bike has incredible torque through out the RPM range
You say you have taken the bike to the track, Have you had a problen with the headers grinding at all from ground clearance?
How do you find the new 2014 second generation version, new seat, engine, head-light etc, is it much improved ?? !!
@YarekBalear Are you kidding? For what it is, it is fucking gorgeous!
Actually my question is...
Can 2 people sit on it?
I saw a picture where the seat was kinda different from what u have right there
Alişen Koyuncu Yes they can! There is a plastic cower that cowers the rear of the seat. You can remove that if you want. There is footpegs for the passenger to, even tho they are hard to see.
+Alişen Koyuncu also there is a nice back rest available and a grab rail that slides out from underneath.
Didn’t refine its own genre. Just followed the footsteps of vmax and created some competition for it. Better description for this would be a muscle sport tourer imo. Only huge difference between the diavel and vmax is basically foot position
@maddasher123 true, but normally people would modify their bikes after purchasing them. I would.
What year is bike he's reviewing? Didn't hear that in video.
@motorcyclenewsdotcom can the Ducati Diavel sit two or is it a bike for only one rider?
Is there a defreince between the diavel dark and carbon because there is a 2,000 dollor price difrence
Anybody knows what is the name of the luggage system on picture in 0:23? Backseat and tank?
Thks

Thank you for a proper review!
Not many reviews are proper these days.
It's a "like" from me!
is this bike ideal for riding with a passenger on bike? i have the hypermotard 796 2011, reallly need a better 2up bike
Bought a brand new 2013 Ducati Diavel from Coleman Powersport in Woodbridge Virginia. After just 81 miles it got overheated due to a faulty thermostat. How does it handle on a track? Easy, or does it feel awkward?
What was the real consumption it did?
How can you say changing the exhaust isn't necessary!

Damn, the sky is blue, and the sun is shinning....O_o
every time I watch a video from you guys, it's grey and raining lolll.
Size 14 feet!!! What trainers do you wear? Adidas Scooner or Nike Barge? :P Oh yeah.... nice review too
@ballereast it's true, ducati it's all about performance because it doesn't make anything else, try to do a corner with a ducati or a japanese bike, see who's faster on the road...
what is the seat height on this thing?
Did you find the bike felt like it was understeering a bit once the tyres were a bit worn? Or did the Ohlins get fitted before this?
thats a one sexy bike, very futuristic...look at that seat
Beautiful bike
@binky4647 trick is I already have 3 mo'sickles and honest to goodness find that feeding bikes is more expensive than feeding the full sized sedan. Pay to play I understand but this motorcycle love is gonna drive me to the poorhouse.

"styling"...and I love ugly bikes. Rocket, speed trip, etc..
how about raining ? is it splasing back to your back ?
It's not a touring bike - yes, ride in the wet and your back (and legs) will get wet...
Excellent in the rain planted at 200km
How does it compare to a 1700 Yamaha Vmax?

Great video! Really want to get one. Does it require a lot of maintenance more than other sport bikes? My Ducati shop is far and I would like to avoid having to bring it in for constant work.
I heard that once the rear tire wears out, it becomes a somewhat bad ride and handles a lot worse than before. Any comments on that?
How much did you spend on the bike in total ?
Did you ever drop it?
Its a muscle cruiser, just like the Harley Davidson Muscle V-Rod and the Yamaha VMAX.
What makes it a cruiser?
How was the throttle response after you had the Termi's and ECU upgraded? Does it suffer from that Ducati Sub 4,000 RPM lurching? can u install clip ons
I'm 6'4 and look like Bowser when riding most machines except big trailies. Do you have any idea how folk my height get on with it please?
I took your advise and use all modes :)
Did the wife beating mode work for you too?
His long time test bike for the year... lucky bastard! lol
Didn't the Vmax start that genre? How is it different from the classic Yamaha?
Thanks for the review. I want one of these this spring. One question, I'm 6'2" and 210lbs. Is this bike going to feel cramped on a long ride? You look tall enough and may offer some good feedback
great review. thanks for sharing
3,000 miles is long term? What a joke. Beautiful bike thought
Hey Chris you still on parole? If ya can't be nice maybe ya should keep it closed dude.
He said he had the bike from end of april this year, (2011) so from may-september he did 3000 miles on that time, i would agree that is long term in miles counted. Not many drive that much in so little time.
Can it carry two people on it?
you still got this bike ?
Does it have a cruise control
No it doesn't.
Perfect no B.S review! I'm in the market for one.
Nice review. I wonder though how you got the 10+ hp that you mentioned... exhaust usually brings 1 or 2 hp if at all.
thx

Very nice presentation Sir. Have you by chance ridden the new diavel?
that damn exhaust system looks so sick...wow
Beating coming for you boy....
We heard about this. Can't wait to bump into the wife beater. Give him a taste...
driving with your headlight on isnt a bad thing is it?
Size 14? Can you walk on water :)
Does it ride like a naked street bike? I got into that type this summer and freaken loving it. I will be looking at diavel in the future.
thx :)) i think i will...
Its Wolverine's Bike :D
My reluctance to ever getting a ducati was the fear of having sticker shock during the ownership period of "feeding" this mistress. love em, but

the Carbon, which is a lighter model is 20k. the standard model is 18,995
Did you have to go through a 3rd party for the performance upgrades or did you order them from Ducati?
Well anytime it’s an aftermarket part, you purchase AFTERMARKET. Manufacturers sell factory oem parts. Why in the world would they ever promote an aftermarket brand? Basically would be the manufacturer admitting that their vehicle needs improvements.. 🤦🏼♂️ Have you been living under a rock??

depends how hard he beats his wife

get this guy on camera more, great vid.
he is a wife beating knob sir!
Should I buy 20000 km Ducati Diavel?
how is it for a big guy? I'm 6'6", most bikes feel really small
I'd also like to know as I'm only a hair shorter than you
ironslede68 it's good on long lims
ironslede68 you might have to climb jacks bean stock and go to the giant Ducati dealership.
@motorcyclenewsdotcom lol ok, but i'm staying on the same idea as ever, ducati is a good bike, with the best noise of them all, but there are lots of better bikes aout there...
3000 miles is not a long time
Good few miles though lol
A "Screwzer"
(and the bling looks shite although I'm sure you think it looks nice)
@ballereast cough
which bike is leading current wsbk championship??
which bike has the most titles in wsbk??
yep, you guessed it, its ducati
your a lucky bastard!
Currently i Own a maxed out 2007 Victory Kingpin. weighing in at 700 pounds with a massive 106 Cubic Inch V-Twin im pushing 130 horses at the wheel "probably about 125 now" with about equal torque. my max speed is 125mph. I'm looking at this bike in particular because I want more speed. but i have a moral objection to crotch rockets. I freaking hate em. i know she (Diavel) accelerates fast, what im wondering is about how fast can she get?
Faster that you can handle
in between is a muscle bike surely?
nice shoes kid.
What year is this bike
Release the Kraken
the midpipe of the termis look terrible
Size 14?? UJK 14?? You don't need a bike you have 2 boats on the end of your legs ;-)
seems wont be a wise choice for the first bike..
That doesnt make sense at all
This is similar to the Moto Guzzi Griso 8V and the BMW R Nine T.
if someone is looking close enough to notice all your 'bling' they've probably nicked it...
It looks siiiiiiiick! Can I have one please!
