TMF Just checked out this review. popped as a rec. on my TV (watch all my TH-cam the box) I had ridden this 2 or 3 years back myself and although I love the looks and ergonomics, it didn't really gel with me. Strange because I like the Ducati Super Sport. And I think the engine is more or less the same. Correct me if I,m wrong.
The engine note sounds very distinctive and slightly unusual but still nice on the video, what does strike me as wonderful out in America is the roads, they look built for excellent motorcycling fun and you can go great distances in a short space of time. Regards, Colin.
HEY!!! Your riding on the "right" side of the road!!! LOL! Cool to see you in the US. That's my home but I'm all the way over on the east coast. I agree the Diavel looks pretty mean. That is a BIG tire. Great review. I just noticed this is a very old video. Not sure how I missed it....
Hey Jerry you need to keep up ;0) Loved riding in the US, I've done plenty of flying over there but this was the first time on a bike - can't wait to get back there ASAP!
In your latest review on XDiavel (Real World Lessons Learned | Ducati XDiavel Review) you pretty much said it was uncomfortable and more of a show pony than an everyday riding bike, is the Diavel much better than the XDiavel then if you are looking for something to ride often. As I had to sell my bikes due to financial issues but I am now in the market to get a new bike and I am looking at Ducati Diavel's ranging from 2011-2015. Many thanks
She is beautiful. She is a beast. And she is the reason i enrolled for motorcycle riding school. I'm getting this as my first bike which doesn't sound like a good idea but what the hell!
Hey you were in SoCal, bit of a contrast in so many ways to joy old I imagine, driving on the wrong side notwithstanding... curious how you experienced that, curious also what you thought of So Cal culture, the motorcycle culture there as well. Hope you had a chance to check out Keanu Reeve's amazing co-creation in LA as well while there...
I’ve been fortunate enough to visit California many times and love it there - you can guess that the main draw for me is the weather and scenery! Plus the burgers are pretty darn good too :0) looking forward to going back....
I know of someone who passed their test 2months ago, never rode bikes before... After watching this I'm now certain it's going to end in tears. I tried warning them but there's no telling some people, just got to hope they scare themselves before anything too bad happens 🤞
The Diavel is a great bike. I had a carbon model for two years and traded it for a KTM Superduke GT early last year…..I have just bought another Diavel carbon. . Plenty of power, great handling and comfort and I think superior styling compared to the KTM. I would recommend the Diavel especially for someone who wants the performance of a super bike but with a lot more comfort.
If your local dealership said that they were going to give you either a Diavel or an R 1200 R which would you take? Both are twins with high torque, both are sort of a sport/cruiser type bike. What would be your preference?
whats the build quality like? do you think it would hold up in the british weather? I'm seriously considering one of these for my next bike but worried about reliability.
+wanes82 Build quality seemed fine, although the exhausts on these I've seen in the U.K. Tend to rust so one to look out for. I don't think reliability will be an issue on a modern Ducati (at least it's not in my experience)....
+TheMissendenFlyer hmmm I see your predicament, but with the Diavel you still get that sporty feel vs the x Diavel which is full sons of anarchy. Just curious how would the Diavel fair as a commuter in your opinion with city traffic?
OKish - but it does get rather hot and the turning circle isn't brilliant (for filtering) - + difficult to carry stuff other than in a rucksack, other than that fine I reckon!
Hi. What do you weigh? (if you dont mind me asking). Im surprised with your comments on the suspension. Ive had mine adjusted once at a shop (not with me on it, they just took my weight figure) and she is still hard as rocks (every little bump on the road is like a harsh poke) :(
Hi jsouto - I'm around the twelve stone mark (on a good day) :0) maybe the preload on this rental machine was wound up for the average American?? (Joke!!)
TheMissendenFlyer God forbid...I think is it was, your spine would be shattered to bits (I do hope our friends across the pond share our sense of humour). Im going to try another adjustment with me on the bike and if that fails, I will then have to change it since this is the only gripe I have with it (needless to say that this is the first bike I've held on for longer than a year). BTW Im very close to 12 stone all geared up. Thanks and take care :)
I didn’t realise you tested a Diavel good man 👍 I’ve owned 2 in the past & love the raw animal like behaviour a true beast but I was afraid of loosing my licence so traded I for a GSA. Have you seen the new 1260s ? really looking forward to see a review on that one 😁
Hey MissendenFlyer, I'm really enjoying your videos - all very informative. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the new BMW S1000XR when it is available.
Richard Jarvis Hi Richard - thanks for your kind comments, glad you like the videos...I'd love to give the new BMW's a go, if I get the chance I'll let you know my thoughts! All the best - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer what kind of business are you in? (just a general question, don't wanna sound like I am intrusive, just curious and maybe repeat it in my country) :) there is a scene in the "woolf of wall street" when Leo sees guy pulling out in Ferrari and asks him "what does one do to afford such a car" and my Q is on the same basis :)
Who did you use for the rental stateside as I'm flying over next year for two weeks and would love to rent something for a few days, is there a specific company you would recommend?...
Hi Gareth, I went to (the appropriately named) "Rent a Ducati" in LA - very helpful and excellent service, all arranged online and minimum hassle when I got to LA. Enjoy your trip! All the best - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer I want to thank you for your amazing recommendation... I test rode the XR today and paid deposit ;) small question should i go with the higher trim level or the basic one is enough? i think the difference mainly is in the ESA suspension and navigation. demo i tested was the basic one.
Any reason? as I am toying with the idea of the T120 or the Diavel, both very different bikes of course, but looking for something fun at weekends, and capable of long trips of 200 Miles +
Just didn't float my boat very much - this particular machine was a rental bike and a bit ragged around the edges....would like to try a newer/better looked after one...or an XDiavel....
I wonder if they still make them 2019 (I don't like the X version at all). I turn 40 then, so I will test ride and see if its fordable to buy one. I guess this is the bike for me. I like the look of a glider but the performance and road handling of a street bike.
Hi Darian, thanks for your comment, glad you like the vids and welcome along to the world of motorcycling! Take it easy for the first year or so , all the best - TMF
+joshprabhakar No real reason why not, it's low and confidence inspiring and not particularly hard to ride. Personally I'd advise against it as a first bike though just because of the power of the machine - temptation to open her up and get out of your depth would be a real danger to all but the most disciplined new rider.....cheers for stopping by, all the best - TMF
+joshprabhakar if your heads screwed on your be fine. I hopped straight on to a 850cc after passing my test and to be fair it scared the hell out of me if went over 5000revs:) so perhaps that's a good thing. As for a 1200....I would not know but got a test ride on one soon wohoooo
Hey an english man in the US. Hey brother since your there, teach them bloody americans how to say Ducati :-) I am sick to death of hearing bloody " Du Car de". Its "Du ca te" fa gods sake. Listen to the English man in the videos. Lol :-) Nice video by the way, i love mine :-)
Hey Minatormyth, thanks for the kind comments, I hope in some way this video helps spread the correct English pronunciation for the Dook (bother! Now I'm at it). All the best - TMF
+TheMissendenFlyer Whether you like it or hate it, everyone stares at it either way. Perhaps this is its strong suit however, Ducati doesn't make cruisers and this attempt didn't really pass the test. Lots of samples up for sale rather cheap and being sold before its first interval oil change which starts at 600 miles. Seems like the data shows people bought it for pure looks and the looks didn't match the actual ride afterwards.
+Lilox Luv Yes I would agree with that - personally I love the looks, but the ride was frankly nothing special (and as I later found out a little uncomfortable on longer runs - although the poor surfaces of some of the California interstates may be to do with that coupled with the fact this was a poorly maintained rental bike). I love the look of the new XDiavel - but with those feet forward foot pegs.....defo not for me, ever...
Good review, and spot-on with your observations. I've owned one these for 4 years now, and i'm still loving it. definitely a keeper.
Brian Pope Cheers Brian - glad we concur! Nice machine, enjoy!
If you ever get chance to get one of these, take it!! An amazing all-round stonker of a machine. Does it all, effortlessly.
Love the looks! Love the bike! Great review dude!
7birchlane Great stuff - glad you found it of interest and thanks for watching! All the best - TMF

Supersport's a 900, no? Both great bikes. This or the Monster 1200? Hmmm
You were on Mulholland Highway between Las Virgines and Kanan Rd. Nice. I love The Snake.
+SageKing Yes it's a beautiful part of the world and oh the weather!! Love it....
Latigo canyon road is incredible, can't wait to go again
The engine note sounds very distinctive and slightly unusual but still nice on the video, what does strike me as wonderful out in America is the roads, they look built for excellent motorcycling fun and you can go great distances in a short space of time. Regards, Colin.
Hi again Colin - agreed on all fronts!
HEY!!! Your riding on the "right" side of the road!!! LOL! Cool to see you in the US. That's my home but I'm all the way over on the east coast. I agree the Diavel looks pretty mean. That is a BIG tire. Great review. I just noticed this is a very old video. Not sure how I missed it....

No I wouldn’t say the “standard” Diavel is better or worse - great bikes to look at and drool over, to ride and live with? Not so much for me….
She is beautiful. She is a beast. And she is the reason i enrolled for motorcycle riding school. I'm getting this as my first bike which doesn't sound like a good idea but what the hell!
+Jassima Nasima Good luck with that Jasima! Better make sure your affairs are in order ;0)
So how did it go?
Me too
Doesn't seem too bad. It's a cruiser with a long wheel base

Yes not the perfect beginners bike by any means!
I started on a 180hp zx12r. Nothing ever happened.. Only got 1 fine in germany. Just respect the power of your bike and get to know her.
Hi Andy, great review as usual. I have an MT10 which I know you loved and I'm quite tempted by one of these, how do they compare?
I way prefer the MT10!
One of my favourites..

+rmteflonpenguin I would take the Diavel :0)
Ya little sneaker flyer ,,,haven't come across this video before good review ,, I like the looks of this great vid as usual Shane
Cheers Shane....
in reference to the number of miles on the diavels odometer.
...errr, not sure I follow Steve??
Any experience with the XDiavel? If so can you compare and contrast?
Thank you and please continue your excellent work!
No I haven't unfortunately, would love a go on one!
whats the build quality like? do you think it would hold up in the british weather? I'm seriously considering one of these for my next bike but worried about reliability.

Is this still a contender for your STR replacement? How do you think it would fair on a track day? Great review
...sure is - although now the X-Diavel has complicated things... :0)
+TheMissendenFlyer any plans for Ducati Streetfighter review?
None imminently - but happy too if you've got one I can borrow ;0)
What kind of mpg are you getting? I hear they put a lot of ethanol in their fuel in the US.
according to the on board computer around 46mpg....sound about right??

Had mine since 2014 and will NEVER sell it. Nothing quite like it.
(Got the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello-S which is also a wonderful machine).
dont mind me asking mate but what do you do to support your hobby? :) tripple, GS, honda, cars etc. :) start to think Im in a wrong business :)
...have your own business (or businesses) is the only way to go....
TheMissendenFlyer all the best

Gareth Barrett No problem, mention my name for a discount! You'll love it riding out there....enjoy!
i am going tomorrow to the showroom to finally buy a bike. i have 2 good offers on either BMW s1000xr or Ducati Diavel. which one would you pick ?
+Mohamed Essam depends what I am going to use the bike for - if it were my only bike I'd go for the BMW
TheMissendenFlyer I want to thank you for your amazing recommendation... I test rode the XR today and paid deposit ;)
small question should i go with the higher trim level or the basic one is enough? i think the difference mainly is in the ESA suspension and navigation. demo i tested was the basic one.

Nope....

To buy the Motorcycle is one thing, But how much it will cost to own as well. I guess repair, service, tire change must cost a fortune.
Yes there is that, and Ducati's tend to be quite costly beasts....high maintenance maybe like a beautiful Italian woman!

A very good review.
+Morgan Wasem Thank you Morgan, glad you approve.....
Can you drive this in UK at the age of 17 with an A1 licence
Err....no.
@@TheMissendenFlyer What is the minimum age limit for it or licence for uk
Google it. Takes 3 seconds.
"California dreamin' on such a winter's day...."
(Well it certainly feels like winter in Nottingham....)
HartfordHD125 ...yes a bit of sunshine suyre is good for the soul....it'll be your way soon I'm sure. Cheers for the comment and ride safe buddy - TMF
did he say 47 or 4 to 7 thousand?
When? Relating to what??
TheMissendenFlyer the mileage on the bike I believe
Would anyone say its a possible first bike? Why or why not?
+joshprabhakar No real reason why not, it's low and confidence inspiring and not particularly hard to ride. 1200 - In other words, more than enough! ;0)
Very reminiscent of the z1000...
Isn't the z1000 a 4 cylinder machine? I imagine it's a much nicer (smoother) ride...!

Pity they never had stainless down pipes ,, they look manly on that one
Agreed!
I want to like the bike but it looks really ugly to me :-(
Beauty is in eye of the beholder eh?
Muscular ugliness is sort of the point.
indeed....
New sub :)
THE EDIBLE UNICORN Welcome along sir!
Thanks :D
In my opinion its a bit ugly but each to their own i guess :)
Bonglord I agree the front isn't great but to my eyes that rear is mean....but as you say, everyone to their own....
Sorry don't like it.
