    Deanna - I tried to read the chat replay but it disappeared. Anyway, i caught a bit of something at the end of the chat that you would check with your hermit friend. Thank you SO MUCH. My frustration has reached epic proportions. I keep thinking it is no wonder that Catholic numbers are shrinking. Except for the rare person here and there, I have not been welcomed. I don't take it personally. I am assuming that I represent a typical convert not previously Christian, single, without Catholic family. I am assuming that these people just don't know what to make of us because they act as if the Catholic Church is an exclusive country club and only certain people who look and talk and act a certain way are welcome. And to be clear, I believe and follow to the best of my ability everything that the Catholic Church believes and teaches and I'm not one of those people who is out to remake the faith in my image. So - I'm not bringing non-Catholic ideas into the faith and irritating people with that sort of thing. Plus I make an effort to learn as much as I can. Right now, I am reviewing the Catechism and my Bible readings by following both the Bible in a Year podcast (from last year) and the Catechism in a Year podcast (from this year.) I am happy with the faith as it is.

      Hi there, I had the same experience in the Catholic Church. Although I ended up finding a priest and parish I adored, the people were very unfriendly and unwelcoming. I think many Catholics just go to church to get it out of the way as part of their weekly requirement and are not super nice to newcomers because they aren’t living out the gospel. I actually started attending an Episcopal church where I worship now and everyone is SUPER friendly. However, I encourage you to look for another parish within the Catholic Church. Another thing that might help is joining one of the parish groups. That way you build on that sense of community and feel less like an outsider. And of course, you can always find community online like this. God bless❤

      It’s live chat - replay. The messages appear where in the timeline they were typed. If you fast forward to the end, you will see them all.
      I am so sorry that you have not felt welcomed! Thank you for continuing to reach out.
      Peace, blessings, & joy,

      @@MyLifeInDebt a lot of us Catholics do go to Church on Sundays to worship God and making friends or evangelizing isn’t a priority. Try going back for a Lenten mission, donut Sunday, or Bible study and see if the people aren’t more welcoming. It’s a different mindset that I myself have only begun to be aware of.

      @@DeannaWillistonOFS My story is interesting but also a little heartbreaking. I really think that Satan, having gotten my family away from The Faith, was furious when I became Catholic and has done everything he can, through others, to try and put me OFF of it (kind of like Job.) But I will not be put off. I believe in the faith, and I do not care how many horror stories I accumulate, but I am sticking with it.
      SO - I will continue to live in the presence of the Lord every day AND reach out to my Catholic brothers and sisters and the bishop and whoever else I need to reach.
      Here is an Interesting factoid and what I am taking from it: I am an expert genealogist of more than 40 years and discovered that I am descended from a number of Catholic saints, including Saint Margaret of Scotland, one of my favs. Actually, my family lines trace from 4 of her children, so I am a cousin to myself a zillion times over. Anyway, I have this idea that the saints would obviously be praying for and interceding for their descendants, right? And this accounts for some of my inordinate love for and attraction to the faith. So, this goes back to my comment about Satan.
      I am sure that his interest in me is because of my saintly ancestors, whose prayers Satan would like to just ruin. I bet he thought that he had wrung every bit of devotion out of my family line, thus decimating the prayers of the saints in my ancestry. But I have routed him! Still, he is working hard to make my life a misery, giving me plenty to offer up for my sins and the sins of all those in my family who left the church. I also pray for the reunion of the Catholic and the Orthodox church..

    I was just thinking about the Secular Franciscan Order again last night or the night before. And coincidentally I was just thinking about Our Lady of Perpetual Help last night because of a random conversation I had with my mom many years ago. Maybe I'll call the regional director and ask someone questions. I'm really curious about it.

    I always stumble upon your channel while watching prayer books reviews! 2 general questions: 1) Ignatian Spirituality is Franciscan? I ask because several articles says over half of all practicing Catholics are ignatian. 2) what does the "poverty" look like in a secular order? Can I remodel my house and go on vacation?

    • @DeannaWillistonOFS
      @DeannaWillistonOFS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! ) Thank you, I don’t have the reference on hand, but it is said that the Ignatian Method was influenced, if not outright borrowed from the Franciscans. 2) In the Secular Franciscan Order (Rule of 1978/Pauline Rule) yes, you may remodel your house and go on vacation. It’s more of an honor system of detachment rather then actual material poverty.

      Oh, yes! Have o never talked about that? I think every Christian denomination has a least one third order of St. Francis. There are also ecumenical groups. Although it is not perfect, the Secular Franciscan Order is the order founded by St. Francis himself.

    Thanks for this informative video! At 2:50, two minutes fifty seconds in, you mentioned an ‘offshoot’ that is following the rule of Pope Leo IX. Can’t seem to find info online to learn more about them. Any thoughts???

      There are several around the world following the Leonine Rule. Try searching for “Third Order Franciscans” or “Rule of Pope Leo XIII 1883” The SSPX even has a Third Order of St. Francis.
