  • Hi guy's no matter your experience with 12v I've tried to make it as simple as possible to install your own lightbar or spotlights with confidence.
    There's so many different wiring loom's on the market I couldn't cover them all but if you look at the under side of the relay you will see numbers beside each pin location. Simply follow this diagram to know where each wire is heading from the relay.
    - Pin 30 (Connects directly to your battery)
    - Pin 87 (Leeds to your lights)
    - Pin 86 (Connects to your high beam)
    - Pin 85 (Connects to a body earth point)

    Really well explained. Only question is what lumens was the light, and what would be a recommendation lumens? Iess more, or is it better to get the highest you can afford and your car's general wiring can hand? I want to put a LED light bar on, seeing that I drive a lot at night and even with the Osron night breakers, its not really the best for the darkness, so any recommendations? And is it better of a high beam LED or just a normal one? If the question make sense?

      Always run through a relay. If you are in Australia you need to run it through your highbeam anyway so may as well use a proper loom & then you know you won't have any issues

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Legally you have to have a spotlight / light bar running through both your high beam aswell as a separate switch. If you turn off the switch your high beam lights will function normally it's just the spot lights /light bar lights that won't turn on. You don't interfere with the high beam lights at all. All you do is pick up a signal from the high beam lights which triggers the relay turning on the light bar 👍

    Excellent video and great channel. I note some people use an additional 4 point relay wired around the h4 adaptor. You just do it at switch wires or batter power ?

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah any wiring loom you buy will only come with 1 relay. It's designed to switch the power coming from the battery to the lights. The wire that only triggers the relay doesn't need another relay as the highbeam wire only becomes live when you activate highbeam 👍

      There are quite a few well known brands that make it pretty easy to swap just 1 wire on the loom to switch from positive to negative. The new lightforce loom even switches itself. It already knows if it's positive or negative. They are getting smarter with the looms 👍

    Now where is a good point to piggy back the ignition power to the relay?

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Either use an add-a-circuit in the fuse box which is the easiest way or find the wires on the right hand side leading to the windscreen wiper motors. One of those wires will have a 12v signal and shut off when you turn the key off

      It's all about pedestrian safety if you hit someone. Bullbars have been designed to "slightly" reduce harm to someone if you hit them. There for you can't place anything in the path of someone who would be pushed up into the bonnet. You can use the same mounting holes & mount it upside down under the bar but not on top

    Sound stupid but what happens if you just go positive and negative to your high beam wires of the head lamp

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question mate 👍 unfortunately it can't be done that easily as the wiring for the highbeam is only designed to be thick enough for the load coming from the headlight. If you connect more lights directly to those thin wires you'll most likely melt them & possibly cause a fire. Hence why a wiring loom has nice thick wires on it to allow for the load of the lights. So we only pick up the trigger wire from the highbeam to the relay. A trigger only requires minimal load so doesn't affect the headlight at all
