This is personally my favorite Metallica album. IDGAF what others say, I was 16 when this came out and it blew my mind...it's definitely their angriest album. First album after Cliff died, James's anger is showing through, Lars tries to show how good of a drummer he can be because his father criticized his playing on earlier albums, this is just Metallica at their best. Nothing after this compares to the aggression and complexity.
I've been watching your reaction videos for the last week or so. I'm a 57 yo guy from Arkansas who has been a heavy metal fan since the 70's and I really appreciate the fact that a young man like you is checking out some, in my personal opinion, really awesome music. I applaud your choice of journeying into the metal genre and I am certain that you are now a fan of this music that I have loved since it was created. I remember when all of these albums first appeared back when I was in my early 20's. Thrash metal really started with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and others. I'm glad you are able to experience this music and see how technical and intricate it is. Greetings from Royal AR. 👍🇺🇸
Do you know what I like? Watching first time reactions and waiting for that little snipit of a song where you know they will react because it's sooooo good 😀
When you listen to the song "One" please do the album version BEFORE you watch the official video. There is a lot of dialogue from a movie in the video. It will make sense after you hear the song and then see the video.
A good reaction might be to do both back 2 back. The video definitely adds value. The video is a masterpiece in the way that it incorporates the movie. But in a way it also distracts somewhat from the song.
He already reacted to the One video. Molly should also react to the studio audio. The video is absolutely brilliant but the dialogs make it a bit tricky to fully appreciate the song itself.
Mate, I am/was a Hip Hop fan back in the days when this first came out. My older brother was a metal head. I loved some of the Metallic, Anthrax, AC/DC, Slayer stuff that he would play . He also loved some of the Public Enemy, Run DMc and Ice T hip hop I listened to. It’s great to have an open mind with music or you can miss some awesome creations. Now my Heavy Metal brothers plays his N.W.A Albums to my 13yr old son when we visit him and I’m on TH-cam searching Metallica songs ….. don’t ever stop trying different Genres. Great Vids, great channel.
As soon as I saw this pop up, I was like, “Man, he’s gonna dig this one!” The dynamics of the soft and heavy sections of the intro…then when it sets in with that sick groove of a riff. No one can deny how tight and precise these guys are. I can’t seem to listen to anything but Acid Bath these days; however, this album still holds a special place for me. Glad to see you hear it. 🤘🏴☠️
As someone that was around from the beginning of Metallica I have to say this is my favorite album of theirs.. the weird production actually gave it a very unique sound. The guitar tones are perfect, and the riffs are heavy AF. Anyone saying this isn't a heavy album is insane! I know Lars gets stick but I love his drumming on this album. This mix really added some depth to the bass drums.. enjoyed that. I am going to have to check out a few alternative mixes of this album.
You need to react to their concert on Seattle 89. 🙏Also react to ‘To Live is To Die’. An instrumental dedicated to Cliff and represents their different stages of grief. Fan fave. Emotional stuff!

In 92' I seen them a few weeks later, right after Hetfield got burned half his body with the pyrotechnics! I thought they'd maybe not come back from that one. Was just recommended this video even though I rarely watch reactions. It's just so darn wholesome to see the youngsters stumbling onto, and absolutely enjoying the music of my childhood. My good friend growing up bought this album in the fall of 1988 on cassette tape and immediately ran over to my house to so we could listen to it on my boombox. We were in the 4th grade and it changed our lives.
the longest track on the album is the instrumental "To Live is To Die" you need to do this MollyBoy, it is one of the saddest tracks in all of Metallica, it was in homage to Cliff Burton who died in 1986 in the bus accident.
17:29 the song right after this one, the intro is pretty tight, but it used to be favorite song on this album, but I think maybe Shortest Straw or Blackened are the best songs besides One. Shortest Straw has a sick riff that just takes over the entire soul. You can’t help but wanna bang your head lol.

Black album after this was the album that made them super stars so early fans and elitists hate it but it’s really one of the greatest albums in metal history. Sad but true may be the heaviest song ever.
I would listen to this on my Sony Walkman before going to sleep many nights in 1989/90. Still listening to it today. I hope these songs last forever. I sometimes fantasize about what it would be like to find this album or metal in general, really but especially an album like AJFA 100, 400, 1000, 4000 years from now. I would put on a hazmat suit and brave fallout if I knew where to find this album.
Best album they made, and by a long way, in my mind. It's so clever, so intricate, so heavy, so musically refined. It's a masterpiece in songwriting. Wonderful.
@@haxan6663 Actually Load is my favorite Metallica album. And I have a specific reason for that is: I can't listen 2 or 3 songs in a row that are in the same album. For example, And Justice For All song is nearly 10 minutes. If I play 1 more song from AJFA it will be 15 minutes of same kind of guitar tones, same kind of vocals and same kind of riffs. I don't like it, I don't want it. For the most part I just listen songs mixed from different albums. One from Master, one from Ride, one from justice, one from KEA, one from the Black. After 2 songs in a row that are in the same album is just unlistenable to me. Except for Load. I can listen the album Load in one shot. Probably its because the sound quality in Load is the best and for my taste. Before Load, vocals are just too low in the songs. One other thing is that before Load, the most important thing is the guitars not vocals. Guitars and riff are there and also there are some vocals too. But there is even instrumentals. So vocals are actually not the point. In Load guitars come to boost the vocals. James' actually singing well and beautiful. I like it better. I like ReLoad too but not as Load. In ReLoad things that I love in Load is there again but songs, I don't find them that much interesting and beautiful. I like the the thing that St. Anger is doing but I just hated the way it sounds. I like only 3 songs from St. Anger.
AJFA is a amazing album, so much anger in that album from the passing of Cliff. The lack of bass from Jason is the only thing missing. You must do Harvester of Sorrow next....sooooo fucking heavy!!!!
The first time I heard The Day that never comes I was driving home from work one night and I only heard the second half of the songI didn't know. I didn't hear the first half and I knew it was Metallica instantly and I knew they were back!!!
You think? My opinion is those you mentioned are "worse" than the title track. They're all good though but title track, blackened and frayed ends of sanity are my favourites!
Ive said it on another vid but this my favorite metal album. Love it dearly and every song is great. I personally love the guitar tone and drums on this album. Epicness
This album doesn't have any bad tracks. But it does have one BIG problem. The problem is the bass or the non existent bass. Blame Lars & James for this problem
I love watching reaction videos to metallica, and welcome to the family. Metallica are the greatest band ever for many reasons. I've not seen all your videos yet but I will get through them. Here is a is of underrated and top songs for you - Devils dance, outlaw torn, Bleeding me, Room of mirrors, inamorata, spit out the bone, atlas rise !, manunkind.......I could go on and on because of the sheer class of the band. Enjoy their music, I sure do.
Hey. I’m 55 and I’ve been a metal head all my life. Just started watching your channel and I love when younger people get into and appreciate metal. Love your reactions lol.
55 here too. Good to see this generation finding Metallica and learning what we already know. My son bought me tickets to see them last year for my birthday. He is into metal as much as me.
I grew up listening to a broad variety of music and over time I have collected quite the eclectic library. I have discovered I sincerely enjoy watching people discover new styles of music and am really glad the TH-cam medium has brought people to react to music new to them. Whether they, or you, wind up enjoying the music or ultimately decide they don't like it I enjoy sharing their journey of discovery. You had mentioned in this song the themes changing, but you didn't mention the overlap and bringing back of themes through the piece. Go and listen to Beethoven Symphony #5, probably his most known music. Then come back and listen to this song. I think you will be amazed. Please note, I am not comparing them to Beethoven or the other way around. Just that greatness has commonalities. The other point you mentioned was people not liking this album. The album certainly has some great songs, but not my favorite by far. And before people get on me, I know I'm an outsider of the realm because I think "Ride The Lightning" was one of, if not the best of their albums. The black self titled album has magnificent songs, but they are just songs, it's not really a contextual album. Keep listening to new music styles and keep enjoying great songs.
Eye Of The Beholder is the song I used to listen to on my Walkman right before I took the mound on game days. It's pummeling. The fade in alone is obscene.
hell yeah brother, this album takes #1 for me for metallica albums. i love it. it sounds so amazing, even tho they muted the bass it adds to the feel of the album and it’s overall just like a masterpiece imo.
my favorite song to hear live is harvester of sorrow from this album from this album.. nothing prepared me for hearing it live the first time feeling the bass and drums just vibrate through me was awesome
I love how the intro to this is quite stiff and precise, then when the vocals start, it has swing type groove. It is a really fun song to play on guitar. Maybe a sign of things that were to come in later albums?
Imagine listening to this in 1988 when it is first released and there is literally no other band or music like this song.... it really was a first.... Mind blowing.... because it was a new sound it never occurred to me that the bass was turned right down.... Amazing
Change is good in music. The evolution of Metallica through the years is a crazy journey! You have to listen to everything and judge for yourself. There is a reason they have been around for 40+ years! 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Keep going, bro!
I remember discovering Metallica in the later 80's with my friends as we were just starting to vbudfieson the journey of learning to play our instruments (drums for me, rhythm guitar and bass for my buddies), and we had pretty much the same reaction as you lol Those were fun days, indeed. I'd like to recommend Testament, a band that came up alongside Metallica in the famous San Francisco Bay area. The lead guitarist for Testament (who release studio albums and tour to this day) is a guy named Alex Skolnick; he and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) both took lessons from Joe Satriani who is considered by many (including myself) to be guitar royalty. The song Practice What You Preach from the album of the same name was released the same year as ...And Justice For All (1988),and it's a banger (along with the rest of the album). Keep rorockin'nd stay heavy! \m/
People were talking smack about this album?!? This is my favorite album from my favorite band. Every song on this album rocks!!!
Only bass players complain and who cares about them?
I think the production and the sometimes bloated / overdone songwriting rubs some people the wrong way, but it’s still one of their best, regardless.
Funny. I’m a bass player, but that album is still amazing.
Numero Uno on my Mt. Rushmore Metallica albums. Always has been.

@@Sixbillion1you’re absolutely correct. It’s perfect the way it is. The bass edits sound ridiculous.
Wonderful.
Ppl can talk all the trash they want about "Lars,"his drumming is freaking nasty on this album and all the ones before!
Its my far and away fav album of theirs. Everytrack comes so hard with it and still has amazing melody and rhythm. Truly i think their best.
I am waiting for the turn comes to album Load.
Load and Reload have grown on me over the years. Unlike St Anger.
Anger.
My favourite album!!!! Dark and disturbed . Brilliant
AJFA is a amazing album, so much anger in that album from the passing of Cliff. The lack of bass from Jason is the only thing missing. You must do Harvester of Sorrow next....sooooo fucking heavy!!!!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Harvester!!!!!!!!
their performance of this song in seattle '89 is awesome too, worth checking out
Great album! 10/10
Death Magnetic is an insanely good album and produced by Rick Rubin, same guy who produced early Slayer stuff.
Unfortunately the production kinda ruined an incredible album
The first time I heard The Day that never comes I was driving home from work one night and I only heard the second half of the songI didn't know. I didn't hear the first half and I knew it was Metallica instantly and I knew they were back!!!
Best Metallica Album ever❤😊
Title track is one of my least favorites on this album (not that it's bad). I think you'll prefer Harvester of Sorrow or Shortest Straw over this one
Yeah, Shortest Straw is a banger!
Yup harvester and shortest straw are definitely the 2 best songs.
You think? My opinion is those you mentioned are "worse" than the title track. They're all good though but title track, blackened and frayed ends of sanity are my favourites!
To me Harvester of Sorrow and Eye of the Beholder could have been removed completely from the album. In my ears very boring songs.
And justice for jason album sounds great
Live you hear the bass
This albums prefect the way it is
I would say, the absence of low frequencies on the bass, because the bass is actually audible, but all the low frequencies are on the guitars.
Wouldn't be Justice without the dry cold sound though!
Here for the party!! Love that you're doing these mate.
Harvester of sorrow is by far the best song on the album.
One of the best song of Metallica, its just pure Genius!!!!✨
Love your reaction ❤
You’re probably around the same age as I was when I first heard it! Makes your reaction more real to me 💪
I got this cd when I was 14. I'm 49 now and it still hits hard!! 🤘💪💯

Dude, absolutely love watching you have the exact same reaction as I and my friends did 36 yrs ago.
🤘😎
This was my 2nd time seeing them live, the live show for this tour was amazing. Keep up with your journey into all things metal.
Eye Of The Beholder is the song I used to listen to on my Walkman right before I took the mound on game days. It's pummeling. The fade in alone is obscene.
Your facial expression says it all... There is so much feeling in metal music!
hell yeah brother, this album takes #1 for me for metallica albums. i love it. it sounds so amazing, even tho they muted the bass it adds to the feel of the album and it’s overall just like a masterpiece imo.
Great seeing your reactions bro to the best band ever. Live version Seattle 89 is awesome!!!
my favorite song to hear live is harvester of sorrow from this album from this album.. nothing prepared me for hearing it live the first time feeling the bass and drums just vibrate through me was awesome
Great being here for the premier, don't see these often, so yea, have subbed now. Rock on \m/
Gratz on 20k! Keep up the good work!
Been a massive fan for 34 years....this is by far my favourite album that they ever did 🤙
Great reaction buddy! Nothing like watching a new metalhead being born! 🤘🤘🤘
Welcome to the fantastic world of Metal. Real musical talent. Enjoy the ride down the rabbit hole.
I love how the intro to this is quite stiff and precise, then when the vocals start, it has swing type groove. It is a really fun song to play on guitar. Maybe a sign of things that were to come in later albums?
Remember this my friend. The heavieeeessst song of this album. The shortest straw. And all of the songs of this album was beast! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Forgot wherever i may roam from the black album too. Its one of my favourites and u have already reacted to it.
This is my favorite album, great guitar tone and heavy riffs
