    JT and Dan Fogelberg were the reason I bought a guitar in 1976 at 18. Sharing my favorite music was always the way I bonded with the people that mattered most to me. It still is.
    In the 90's I played JT for my children when they were small. They always asked for this one and Copperline. Tonight my oldest son sent me a link to this, and asked me if I remembered how it used to play in the car all the time. Of course I do.
    JT, you are a part of the glue in the lives of people you've never met. My son and I are a part of your audience. Thank you. Thank you so much.

    Life is so hectic, but James Taylor is one of only a handful of recording artists/singers that put me at peace almost immediately. So glad he’s been and always will be a part of my musical life. ‘Love Always’ Matthew 5:44

      One thing that impresses me is how he incorporates other people into his concerts, and then makes sure to introduce them and express his appreciation. If you've never seen it, go find the performance of "Shower the People" from the Beacon Theatre concert. How many artists let a background vocalist have a moment like that? And during the concert, he acknowledged every member of his team. You don't see that kind of humility these days.

    All-time JT fave. 'Just read a short story by Margaret Atwood about John S. Torrington, the real frozen man, found in the perma-frost (as James would say, "Lord have mercy"). He was a stoker on the HMS Terror - during a doomed expedition to find the Northwest Passage. 'Died 1846, exhumed 1984. (And yes, the sound quality of this is fantastic - I like it even more than the LP version - getting to see these stellar musicians.)

    This was filmed at his place "The Barn" on Martha's Vineyard. It was offered as a premium gift for a PBS special. My guess it was basically a way to film a live pre tour rehearsal session. Cool to see kids and friends milling around in back. I have the pleasure of rehearsing in a space very similar to this although in Wisconsin - a renovated barn with a full kitchen, bedrooms, recording gear and an amazing Steinway piano. Great acoustics. Love this video.

    I cried once again at this song. It never fails to get me, to touch the heart. Within the first minute the listener is pulled into this amazing little world from long ago, a very moving tale. Beautiful craft here.
    But one question. Something I've never understood in the lyrics. Why does the Frozen Man say "unlike myself?" I thought he'd been put back together again+.... please advise, thanks

    • @AdrianMelia-0

      My interpretation is that he can't wave his hand, because he is busy playing the guitar.

    • @williamschroeder3070
      @williamschroeder3070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My take is that he is talking about after he is dead again, he wants to be sure that he is not brought back to life by medical science, as he was when he was brought back from being frozen. He was brought back to life once, and then saw his wife and daughter long gone, and does not want to go through that again. The lyrics "you can wave your arm, you can wiggle your hand..." refer to people that are waving goodbye to him after he dies a second time (hopefully for good this time (...nothing to work on....), as he wants it to be. The "unlike myself" means that now that he is dead and really gone, he can no longer do that (wave, wiggle), which is what he wants.

    • @NormStrauss

      Peter, you're right, they put him back together again, but the best they could do wasn't perfect, i.e., "peg my leg" is not a fully functional replacement leg...so to me the lyric "unlike myself" is that he was frozen so badly that even medical science couldn't repair everything back to 100%, as in he feels pathetic that he can't even raise his arm or wiggle his hand because he's an abomination of science of sorts and the lyric "well you can wave goodbye to the frozen man" means he wants to die for real this time and leave earth for good, as in "don't leave nothin' to work on" because he doesn't want to be a Frankenstein thanks to overly enthusiastic doctors. So this poor guys condition is even sadder than you first thought. The song is a favorite of mine too, it moves me...well, actually what James Taylor song doesn't eh?

    This song was inspired by the discovery of John Torrington and 2 others buried in ice in Canada. They were part of the failed Franklin expedition. What’s weird for me though is this guy who is a calm country singer and heavy metal band Iron Maiden both wrote a song about John Torrington. A heavy metal band and a country singer.
