LYRICS
The Frozen Man by James Taylor
Last thing I remember is the freezing cold
Water reaching up just to swallow me whole
Ice in the rigging and howling wind
Shock to my body as we tumbled in
Then my brothers and the others are lost at sea
I alone am returned to tell thee
Hidden in ice for a century
To walk the world again
Lord, have mercy on the frozen man
Next words that were spoken to me
Nurse asked me what my name might be
She was all in white at the foot of my bed
I said, "Angel of mercy, I'm alive or am I dead?"
My name is William James McPhee
I was born in 1843
Raised in Liverpool by the sea
But that ain't who I am
Lord, have mercy on the frozen man
It took a lot of money to start my heart
To peg my leg and to buy my eye
The newspapers call me State of the art
And the children, when they see me, cry
I thought it'd be nice just to visit my grave
See what kind of tombstone I might have
I saw my wife and my daughter and it seemed so strange
Both of them dead and gone from extreme old age
See here, when I die make sure I'm gone
Don't leave 'em nothing to work on
You can raise your arm, you can wiggle your hand
And you can wave goodbye to the frozen man
I know what it means to freeze to death
To lose a little life with every breath
To say goodbye to life on earth
To come around again
Lord, have mercy on the frozen man
Lord, have mercy on the frozen man

What a fantastic song, I love it. The version JT does from Spanish TV, playing the Requinto Whitebook is wonderful. I look forward to this rendition.
James could sing the phone book and it would win a Grammy - such a treasure. Would love to hear “Baby Boom Baby” this way
Cheers to a “Frozen Man.”
Love JTs sense of humor .. great version! Strong singing and guitar playing…
My daughter was 4 and my son was 2 in 1993. Beautiful tones from England, James!
One of his very best. James is a treasure.
His voice is clear as a bell here. Such an interesting song. Almost anything he sings is beautiful. Like the commentary that usually accompanies this.😊
JT is a great artist ❤
One of my absolute favorite JT songs. Never tire of hearing it.
Iconic performance😊.
I think this song could be turned into a children's book, sort of like Sweet Baby James. It's a story both beautiful and mysterious.
Such a relief to hear JT singing Frozen Man, strong guitarist & voice soothe my heart❤
Wow such clarity from a live performance.
Thanks James, as always 🙂🎸

Fantástica música 🎸🎸
Thank you, James, for sharing your beautiful talent. You have been an integral "tune" in the soundtrack of my life. Your music has, quite literally, made my life easier when it was hard, and expanded the beauty & happiness when all was well. A minstrels work completely fulfilled, I would think. Your work, in my opinion, is just another of those "little things" that seems to confirm the existence of an "overseer" that loves us, and wishes us to be happy.
Live long, and prosper.
Just amazing! I saw him in concert that year in Birmingham, England. ❤ 🙏.
A masterful performance in every way, James. 🌈💜🇺🇸

That would be a true medical miracle! Kinda makes one wonder if the field of cryogenics has any merit, no? It’s a marvelous song and a fantasy/ mental tickler. Several “frozen men” exist: the hunter prehistoric man found in melting ice, expeditioners on Mt. Everest, probably some in Antarctica, and a cryogenic storage facility. None that I have heard of have actually been resurrected - can’t be done without reanimation by their soul. But fascinating to consider.
Alas, not yet. The freezing process does enormous damage to internal organs that no one yet knows how to repair.
Wow I found some missing chords here❤🙏👍
😎✌👍❤🖖
Love Brother
Finally, a version of this song for guitar players! What I mean by that is, although the extra instruments are wonderful, there's nothing like getting a mix where the guitar part can be heard (and seen!) just the way it was written. That way, guitar players like me can see and hear exactly how to play this song. Not that it is easy, it isn't. This song has particular syncopations and surprises which are unique, and yet they are very James Taylor-ish. So, I have my work cut out for me! One other thought - Have you ever noticed that camera people are never guitar players? If they were, they would show a lot more of the left hand, and a lot less of the right hand and the face. 🏔🏔🚢🛥🌨❄🎼🎵🎶🪕🎻🎺🎹
Good point!🎉
I've dreamed of this day :) (Though, try playing it on DADGAD...for that matter, ANY James Taylor.)
That Em9 at the beginning and end is hard to nail down. James even said on VH1 Storytellers that he busted his thumb rollerblading about a year before the performance and “Frozen Man” was one of the more difficult songs for him to play. He nailed it of course!
Hi, I don't know if James reads these, but is it possible to ask him if he could release a performance of "The Water Is Wide" from the time of it's original release? It's always been one of my favorite songs of his. Thanks.
Hi, I saw your comment and thought I would tell you. The Water is Wide, came out in September, 1991 (New Moonshine Album) 😊❤
yeah, that's a great idea
I wanna hear Water is wide
@@WhitePelicansareRealYes, that was known. That's why I stated from the time of its original release.
I think he played it with the Boston Pops in 1991. I believe it is up here on TH-cam somewhere but it would be great to have that entire performance restored and uploaded to JT’s channel.
I Love You Everyone Good Dear Was To Be Nice Song
