So very cool Nick! Dusting off those fitment skills and getting the young lady back on the lanes. I switched to Sarge Easter last season because of arthritis in my hand and have gotten back in the honor score hunt (a couple of 279’s, 289, 793). It’s really what I’ve always thought the bowling community was about…helping…coaching…and keeping bowlers in the game. Well done to you both!

Happy for Sarah to be able to bowl pain free and consistently. Definitely see an improvement in her game. Amazing how changing your fit can have a massive impact. The sarge easter grip has always intrigued me and is good to know if I get to the point where it’s painful to bowl, that this would be worth a try

Glad to catch this! I've always wondered what's up with Nick's grip! Makes sense, and will keep in mind. I've had bad wrist, hand, and elbow tendon issues from baseball. I've gotten back in bowling shape, but this may come in handy in another 10 years!
Love to see this. I have arthritis in my index finger knuckle and wrist, and I was dealing with major index finger pain. There was too much weight distributed to that finger. After a lot of trial and error, we did a combination Sarge Easter grip along with shifting my thumb slightly left AND pitching it left. This rotated the ball weight from my index finger to closer to my palm and 100% eliminated my pain. I love seeing people willing to change things up to help relieve pain! Great job!
I commented on Sarah's post a few days ago and told her that I did the same thing after I injured my wrist. Was the best thing I could have ever done. Did this ago 15 years ago or so. But still get some pain. But not anywhere where it was. Love this grip
Well done Nick coming in Clutch. Ive often contemplated trying this grip due to wrist surgery and a bad elbow. I just bowl through my pain. Certainly not 250 games a week😂
Almost exactly what I went through a few years back. My wrist would hurt after a couple of games at first, then I'd lose my ability grip the ball at all after a while. The only difference I see is that my pain was focused on the pinky finger side of the wrist. I went to the Sage Easter grip after trying every pitch, scan, grip idea my PSO could come up with. I asked my PSO to do the Sarge Easter, and it helped me a ton. Used it for a couple of years with no wrist pain. After covid shut downs I tried to go back to a regular fingertip fit, and the pain came back almost immediately. I gave it 6 months, and eventually just did something completely different... went from 1H righty to 2H lefty. Just didn't want to keep limping along on a bad wrist. But for all the Sarge Easter doubters out there, it absolutely reduces wrist strain.
Good Guy Nick gets to be added to the "faith in humanity restored" hall of fame. This is how you get people interested in bowling again. Thanks for helping Sarah out in a time when she almost lost faith in her ability to bowl. I should have tried that years ago, I was having pressure everywhere back, hip, wrist, I was probably never fitted properly and squeezed the ball. I finally had hip surgery at 55yrs and donated my equipment. 😊
Great ball selection. Glad you were able to get help, Sarah! And thank you for taking care of her, Nick! This was an excellent video with a very positive outcome and impact. I guess you could say it was "clutch" after all. I have upcoming appointments with a Neurologist and a surgeon for pain through my 2 middle fingers, wrist, and forearm. I wonder if this would help? I only bowl around 30 games per week. I'll never see 250. Probably a good thing!
@brunsnick I dropped from 14lbs to 12lbs. Doctor initially said 10, but we negotiated. I've purchased a bunch of 12 lbs balls, so it won't be fun when I finally get to switch up. Lol. I'll have to see if anyone around here can drill like this.
5:04 mark… she has bowled 10 games. I would be burning up bowling 10 games wearing a long sleeve shirt… lol. Congratulations! Glad this helped you! I enjoy your videos.
I don’t have pain in my wrist, but I do have quite a bit of arthritis in my knuckles from years of bowling. Wonder if I should give this grip a shot. Great video!!!
I watched this video Tuesday night, the 12th. Then I go to my league the next night and who do I see? Sarah! I had no idea she was from my general area.
Glad the grip change is working, and that she's in less pain. Speaking for myself, as well as other friends of mine who have physical issues that affects their ability to bow, it's important to take care of yourself. I know the 250 games a week was obviously an exaggeration, but please keep an eye out for yourself. The new grip could lead to more of the same if the root cause was RSI-like in nature. Perhaps some kinesiology tape in the right places may help in addition to the grip change. Visiting a sports medicine doctor (unless I missed that part in the video) would go a long way.
Nick, you also helped her get the ball past her ankle before her release. Her hand has a chance to do something now. A slight adjustment in timing and she will improve drastically..
my average went up 20 pins since my last league just from revamping my arsenal and grip for pitches and thumb size so that I can relax the grip and throw the ball without pain and be more consistent... I used to pull the ball consistently to opposite side of head pin or further because of cocking my thumb and now my misses all stay to the right side of headpin and I can really make adjustments with my feet or change balls at appropriate times, as I trust what I see on the lanes now. So glad I spent some money to get it right and listened to advice from better bowlers in my area on who they use for pro shop stuff.
This was great to see. Having an issue myself and seeking guidance . Getting a heberden node on the right side of my MF from no thumb bowling. I have a lot of lateral pitch but recently went up in grip sizes to reduce pressure on finger dips . What can I do to stop pressure on that joint?
su juego va evolucionando, solo que corrija sus tiempos ya que aun la suelta antes y parece caer, pero ha mejorado bastante y se ve! al parecer tuvo malas perforaciones que le generaron su malestar. ojala mejore con el easter grip. saludos!!
I always wondered about your grip Nick. I haven't heard of that before and I have always thought "hmmm, I wonder why Nick's finger holes are offset like that". Perhaps this is something I need to investigate a little bit more. I have also wondered why my conventional grip isn't really all that comfortable. Seems to me I should put my fingers in the ball and it should be like putting on a glove. I know when I throw my ball, I consciously think "relax the hand". I try to keep my hand as absolutely relaxed (dead) as I can throughout my throw. I have a very specific way I adjust my thumb hole so I don't have to grip the ball but yet as soon as my wrist rotates forward, the ball will fall right off. This allows me to have a super relaxed hand, be able to still handle the ball, but have my thumb come out as quickly as possible. I wonder if my method would work even better with your type of grip. I need to try it. My rev rate now is getting close to 400, maybe an adjustment would help me get even a little bit more without more effort.
Wow 🤯.. this has me thinking 🤔! I just got back into bowling a month ago after a 25 year layoff. Went and got a ball had it drilled first day bowled two games felt OK the second day I bowled five games and on the second day I started tucking my pinky like I used to, and when I started my sixth game, I pulled something in my forearm and could no longer hold a ball. I took a week off, started bowling again, but no more pinky tuck and have been ok for the most part. I tried tucking my pinky again this past Sunday for about three throws and felt my forearm started to hurt and became hard to even close my hand, but finished bowling Without the pinky tuck and was fine. I feel like I’m not able to put the same revs probably due to my forearm, but you really got me thinking with this grip! From what I’m telling you does, it sound similar to what you both went through? I am just getting back into the bowling and have been bowling approximately 25 games a week. Oh and I’m 47 now
I think it can't be said enough. Bowling should never hurt. If your hand/fingers/wrist hurt after you've bowled, go to a different PSO and get your fit checked!
I have problems over gripping the bowling ball and getting a comfortable release. Should I look into trying the sarge easter grip? and will anyone drill this?
So i have a question, i've been struggling like crazy here the last few months to stop tracking the thumb, and on two balls in particular, tracking the middle finger and thumb. Been trying everything, and @sarahbowls can even vouch that it's been bothering me. Any tips?
Could be layout? Sounds like you track high and the pin is drilled too far away from the PAP If it’s only those two. Assuming they’re drilled different than others or they’re lower flaring balls.
@brunsnick all of my equipment is drilled pretty much identically. The two that I track the finger and thumb on are black pearl urethanes. I track thumb only with purple urethanes. My NUs, 3Ds, Envy, GBs pretty much every ball I can watch the track start at the thumb and then flare off. I don't remember having this issue a year ago, but I can't really pin point what changed.
Nick this is really sweet. I've now got an issue with my forearm and elbow. Was told tennis elbow and bursitis quit painful now and definitely has a issue in my release been dealing with for past 3 months a lil better but not back to norm. Ok now quick question this grip is middle finger. Finger tip grip and the ring finger is conventional grip or both conventional grip?
@@sarahbowls Thank you a lot. Since this layout did the balls roll differently now and have to relearn how they roll or about the same. Long story short. Just got new PSO had to refit all my balls they were all off now they all fit properly but now have learned how to readjust the ball release and motion. Glad in one way but sucks there the other way. I'm a fan of Nick, and am happy that Sarah recovered, but given how she throws the ball the issue was likely with her thumb and NOTHING else. Prob suboptimal pitches. Would have been better if she removed the thumb completely and went 2handed. I had the EXACT SAME issues before I went 2handed. Yes she would likely need to take a year off to develop it but it would be way better than dealing with thumb issues. She might get injured again by the middle of the year. Hit it harder has a VERY good video about how bad sarge easter is.
So I have a question about the sarge grip. I have multiple hand issues but mainly with my middle finger being broken at the tip and being a bit angled now. Is it possible to have the grip on the ring finger and the middle finger normally drilled? Is that technically still a sarge grip? I’ve been wanting to get back into bowling without hurting myself and this seems like a real option that I’ve never heard of. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for posting this video and for helping this young lady and others. ✌🏾🙏🏾
Pretty / Cool and she can bowl? I'm crushin. Hope her wrist and hands gets better. Have to change is super hard and annoying. But better safe than sorry.
@BrunsNick Do you think that grip would help with a two-hander, or is that a whole different thing because of the differences in how they hold the ball?
I'm intrigued. With that kinda grip of course the thumb goes out first followed by the middle finger then ring finger last? Or do the two fingers go out simultaneously. Another question is the revs it would create. Is it more than the usual finger grip position?
I see that sarge easter grip helps with the ring finger i have issues with the middle finger. Where alot of my lift comes from my middle finger. Any tips i also have a natural staggered offset where my ring finger sits high on the ball and the middle finger sits an 1/8 shorter
I switched to Sarge Easter grip about a year and a half ago with some help from Brunsnick. It has been the best thing I have done for my bowling in a long time. No more hand pain after bowling anymore. I am 56 years old and it was starting to become a problem trying to bowl. Thanks to Brunsnick, I am sure I can keep bowling now for several more decades. :-)

@@sarahbowls Sara, I admire your dedication to the sport of bowling and you are gifted with a natural talent very few possess. I made joke of the "well-worn" fashion of holey jeans today and the prices they demand. When I was a lad, my mom threw away my jeans when I would wear through the knees and get holes from snags and tears. They would fetch a good price had she thought of storing them away.
it sucks most pro shops dont even get a pap/ let alone look at pitches. i had to actually had to do a ton of experimenting myself. did travel to see some great drillers.
I have to ask how Sarah has the time and money to bowl 200-250 games a week? That is over 35 games a day and about $1500 dollars a week. I will add that it would roughly take 12-15 hours a day to bowl that many games in a day. I just do not see how that is even possible.
@brunsnick I would think that anybody who bowls that many games a week is inevitably going to be destined to have injuries and surgeries in their future regardless of fit. Anyone who is involved in sports knows that overtraining almost always leads to injury. She is a cool girl. I am glad you could get her back on the lanes again. With that said, I have to wonder how long that will last with her bowling that much.

@@tcj5663 not really no. Especially if you don’t use your thumb.
Fixed my grip pressure by getting rid of the thumb 😄
Quitter 😆
@@brunsnick Ha
Wow, Sarah made it through the whole video without letting the F word fly
imagine that 😂
I told her to keep it PG, this ain’t her channel.
Hey Nick, could the sarge grip help with being more behind the ball and not chicken wing it so much?
@@joemorales3035 possibly.
Would this grip help with inner elbow pain as well?
Possibly yes! Lowering grip pressure is the objective in any grip change to alleviate pain.
Does this grip make you be less behind the ball ? (Less ring finger involvement)
@@bowlingxp8345 no not really.
I'm intrigued. With that kinda grip of course the thumb goes out first followed by the middle finger then ring finger last? Or do the two fingers go out simultaneously. Another question is the revs it would create. Is it more than the usual finger grip position?
They release about the same time. Might stay on the middle finger for a split second longer.
Hi Nick, have you tried 1 hand no thumb? I've been seeing this style more and more recently
@@alexanderduque1674 nope never
is there a change that you can make to improve tennis elbow issues?
Same idea. Reduce grip pressure.
I see that sarge easter grip helps with the ring finger i have issues with the middle finger. Where alot of my lift comes from my middle finger. Any tips i also have a natural staggered offset where my ring finger sits high on the ball and the middle finger sits an 1/8 shorter
Best to talk to your PSO and figure out why.
Sarah!!!
Would a sarge grip work for no thumb bowlers?
Maybe? Doubt it? Not sure.
@@brunsnickhaha, let me know if you hear of anyone bowling that way.
This is not the first time you've been told to get a grip, Nick!
This is true.
Never bowl through pain. Always talk to your pso. If he can't fix it go to someone else.
Theres literally dozens of us with sarge easter grip
We should start a support group on the weekends.
@@brunsnick oh brother
I switched to Sarge Easter grip about a year and a half ago with some help from Brunsnick. It has been the best thing I have done for my bowling in a long time. No more hand pain after bowling anymore. I am 56 years old and it was starting to become a problem trying to bowl. Thanks to Brunsnick, I am sure I can keep bowling now for several more decades. :-)
@@sarahbowls #SargeSistas are welcome too
24 years of bowling. Never had a wrist problem!😂😂
A sarge Easter grip for a backup bowler 👀😂 Still waiting on that video
Would Sarge Easter grip work with 2 hands?
Not sure. Maybe?
She looks like Gwyneth Paltrow 😅
only one other person has told me that before 😂😂😂😂
maybe I need that grip, instead of all changes I made because of hurting cramping hand...........and lower weight ball.
Would the Sarge help relieve Arthritis pain in the ring finger knuckle area?
Yes cause you will be supporting more with the ring finger.
Yes.
smooth
I still don't know what the sarge grip is ?

Did you teach her how to leave the 8?
he did!!! i’ve genuinely never left so many since 😭😭😭
It’s a gift and a curse. Had to purge myself and share the burden.
5:55 BAH DUM BUMP!
Cool gal and a very good bowler. I hope she wins a tournament to buy a pair of new jeans because the ones she's wearing are quite tattered with holes.
😂😂😂
She’s molting. New jeans will take their place soon.
@@brunsnickMOLTING 😭😭😭
@@sarahbowls Sara, I admire your dedication to the sport of bowling and you are gifted with a natural talent very few possess. I made joke of the "well-worn" fashion of holey jeans today and the prices they demand. When I was a lad, my mom threw away my jeans when I would wear through the knees and get holes from snags and tears. They would fetch a good price had she thought of storing them away.
Wasn't a fan, now i am.....i mean Sarah of course
Solid choice.
I love the new fit that was done. However, I do not think it's physically and mentally possible to bowl 250 games in a week🤦♂
Not for very long as her wrist said
Would like to see an up close of her hand in the ball.
Check out her channel.
it sucks most pro shops dont even get a pap/ let alone look at pitches. i had to actually had to do a ton of experimenting myself. did travel to see some great drillers.
Now I know why she would post shorts of her bowling left handed
I have to ask how Sarah has the time and money to bowl 200-250 games a week? That is over 35 games a day and about $1500 dollars a week. I will add that it would roughly take 12-15 hours a day to bowl that many games in a day. I just do not see how that is even possible.
She’s kind of obsessed and she tied in with a center.
She will cool off a lot. I gave her a practice regimen to build back strength and not overdo it.
Career? She averages 180
you seem offended 😂
Like 185 now prob 🤷🏻♂️
She doesn’t even qualify to get her pwba card
So professional bowling the only way to make money in bowling?
@@brunsnick no but I’m sure Brunswick is glad to have someone who curses 4 times every shot. Ontop of making the balls look like garbage
Now you can throw the ball like Li Jane Sin...!
Maybe I can come up to Muskegon and talk about how YOU were the reason I converted to Sarge...
Got me out of throwing a full roller
Saved my wrist after a stupid thing I did
Helped me win my first three tournaments in nearly fifteen years, and all but one of my thirteen 30 games were with the new grip
@@xforce300 and the huge series with the Radioactive!
Did she mean 250 a month? 250 games a week would be 1.5 games every hour non stop. 250 a month is about 8 games a day which makes sense.
She lives in a center. I think she even pays rent there.
What were Sara's specto numbers?
@@drobells she will have a video out on that soon.
I would like to see what happens if a 2 hander uses a sarge easter
Me too. Any volunteers?
@@brunsnickI’ve been toying with the idea for a while. I have balls I don’t use anymore I just don’t want to pay to try it lol
@BrunsNick Would the Sarge Easter help with farting through the follow through? Asking for friend👍
I mean it doesn’t help me with that.
How does one bowl 250 games a week
Niko Master!
