    As a candlepin bowler, that frame where the 2 pins fell late for the strike even surprised me. While every house is different and every set of pins has different wear levels on the caps, those rolling woods didn't seem hard or fast enough to knock those pins down in (I'd say) 90% of the lanes I've bowled at. But there are always some houses where that would be enough. :) Good experiment to watch for sure! Very cool.

    We candlepinners are jealous that you won't be getting any spread eagles or half Worcesters with that ball.
    Spread eagle=2,4,7 & 3,6,10 (1,5,8,9 punched out)
    Half Worcester= punch out either 2,8 or 3,9.
    Yes, those punch outs are very common and can knock the wind out of our sails when we get into a groove.

    I enjoyed this. First, you're a good ten pin bowler, so that helped make this interesting, 2nd, that third strike, while not a "no-doubter", happens to us, on occasion. Not every strike in candlepin is a hammer. 3rd, the strikes dried up! What happened? Lol. I appreciate the respectful comments you made about the difficulty of candlepin. How do we keep our frustration level down? It comes with years of experience. After a while, you'll see everything, good and bad, and won't be too surprised by it. You just have to shake off the bad breaks and keep grinding. The breaks even out, over time, and keeping that in the back of your mind helps keep things in perspective. It's not an easy game. A 120 average is considered elite. Anything over 130 is other-worldly.
    I'd like to see you throw a string using candlepin balls (at candlepins). That 183 might look really good to you afterwards.

    Fun! When I was a kid I would sometimes use a toy tenpin set ball, and set paper towel rolls as candlepins and called it 'candletens". I grew up bowling candlepin in MA til moving to Ohio. Fun video, along with yours using duckpins and the candlepin ball at tenpin pins. Next time if you try a candlepin ball at tenpin pins, try using the candlepin rule of leaving the deadwood on the deck. That would make for some very odd pin action on spares I'm sure!

      It may be more difficult to score really high but I like to take my neighbor's children bowling and the heavy balls are a struggle for them. The lighter balls give people with less strength a chance to enjoy themselves. I've been waiting to see this since you did the Candlepin Ball vs. Tenpin Pins video, the results were not what I expected, I thought it would have been easier than it was. I figured with a ten pin bowler of your level it would have been strike after strike after strike. That means if you are unlucky your spare might be blocked by a fallen pin preventing normal spare shot or you might be able to knock fallen pin(s) to get your spare like candlepin.
    This experiment would be even more interesting with the slightly heavier "gold" bowling pins as they would roll less and be more likely to get in the way.

    I have another idea: KOMI bowling. "Komi" is a term in the Asian game of GO where if one player starts with an advantage a certain number of compensation points is given to the opponent.
    In "Komi" go one player is given a handicap but unlike traditional handicap bowling both players are considered close enough in skill where a handicap is not normally warranted (but here it is).
    One player gets to choose what the handicap will be and the OTHER player then decides whether or not they want to have the handicap or let their opponent have it.
    Whoever gets the handicap has to bowl an entire game with the slightly heavier gold colored pins and the player without the handicap has to bowl on the standard white pins.
    What handicap would you pick?

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends how many pins handicap. Bowling on the Gold Pins will likely see a 10 pin drop in average.

    • @Zurround
      @Zurround 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Few things. I can't wait to see you try a traditional Candlepin string,with a real ball. I'm willing to bet that your score will be under 90. Not because of you,its the lane setup. Candlepin lanes have very shallow, almost flat channels. Some houses have steel pin plates. Both for pin action. I'm guessing your ball speed it around 20 mph. Pro candlepin bowlers can reach into the 40+ mph range. Our game is more like billiards. Your ball can be off ever so slightly, and weird things happen. Firing A first ball down at a full rack,if your off slightly that's the difference in getting a hammer strike,or just blunking either the 2 or 3 pins alone. We also slightly different rules. And 6 feet from the foot foul line is a lob line, the ball must land before that line. A dead wood line is about a foot forward of the head pin spot. If anything pin rolls forward past that line,it must be removed. Hitting dead wood in the channel is a foul. Remember kids, candlepin bowling is actually older than traditional ten pin. Because our game is a game of fractions of an inch,there has never been a perfect game yet. 245 is so far the highest.

    If you ever want to try to compete with our best at our game. I believe the PBA is coming back to Maine this year. Try to get something together with the TH-cam channel The Candlepin Bowling Network. Do a charity match for Candlepin for Cancer.

    Now I'm interested in seeing normal pins but you get to leave dead wood on the lane.

    Since each candlepin weighs a pound less, a modern tenpin ball goes through them as if the ball is more like 21 lbs.
    Lol. A "real ball" is a yellow dot, OG crown jewel, black beauty, magnum 10, ebonite gemstone, Star Trak MSG, LT-48 Rock, etc.

    Candlepin bowling is far more challenging no one has ever rolled a 300 game or even an 800 series. I would like to see you bowl with a regulation ball.

    I'm predicting a 150-159 game ... well you did pretty good. i was expecting action more like your 9 and 10th frames. you had good pin action on the first few frames, and a lot of good spares. good job

    interesting for sure, need to be way more accurate to strike, than 10 pin bowling. Imagine the scores for ten pin bowling with a candle stick pin ball, jajajajaja, think Nick you tried that with duck pin ball, not sure difference between duck pin and candlestick balls
