Hound of the baskervilles is my favorite Holmes story. I only had it read to me once when i was young, but one line thats stuck with me is something along the lines of “if it bleeds we wounded it, and if we can wound it, we can kill it”
SHERLOCK: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME DO YOU UNDERSTAND?! You want me to prove it, yes? We’re looking for a dog, yes, a great big dog, that’s your brilliant theory. Cherchez le chien. Good, excellent, yes, where shall we start. How about them? The sentimental widow and her son, the unemployed fisherman. The answer’s yes. JOHN: Yes? SHERLOCK: She’s got a West Highland terrier called Whisky. Not exactly what we’re looking for. John: Sherlock Sherlock: Look at the jumper he’s wearing. Hardly worn. Clearly he’s uncomfortable in it. Maybe it’s because of the material; more likely the hideous pattern, suggesting it’s a present, probably Christmas. So he wants into his mother’s good books. Why? Almost certainly money. He’s treating her to a meal but his own portion is small. That means he wants to impress her, but he’s trying to economise on his own food. JOHN: Well, maybe he’s just not hungry. SHERLOCK: No, small plate. Starter. He’s practically licked it clean. She’s nearly finished her pavlova. If she’d treated him, he’d have had as much as he wanted. He’s hungry all right, and not well-off - you can tell that by the state of his cuffs and shoes. "How d’you know she’s his mother?” Who else would give him a Christmas present like that? Well, it could be an aunt or an elder sister, but mother’s more likely. Now, he was a fisherman. Scarring pattern on his hands, very distinctive - fish hooks. They’re all quite old now, which suggests he’s been unemployed for some time. Not much industry in this part of the world, so he’s turned to his widowed mother for help. “Widowed?” Yes, obviously. She’s got a man’s wedding ring on a chain round her neck - clearly her late husband’s and too big for her finger. She’s well-dressed but her jewellery’s cheap. She could afford better, but she’s kept it - it’s sentimental. Now, the dog... tiny little hairs all over the leg from where it gets a little bit too friendly, but no hairs above the knees, suggesting it’s a small dog, probably a terrier. In fact it is - a West Highland terrier called Whisky. “How the hell do you know that, Sherlock?” ’Cause she was on the same train as us and I heard her calling its name and that’s not cheating, that’s listening. I use my senses, John, unlike some people, so you see, I am fine, in fact I’ve never been better, so just Leave. Me. Alone. JOHN: Yeah. Okay. Okay. And why would you listen to me? I’m just your friend. SHERLOCK: I don’t have friends. JOHN: Naah. Wonder why? (He gets up and walks away.)

For me, one of the best scenes of the series. The Hounds of Baskerville is a memorable episode. Sherlock struggles to recover from his encounter with the hound, cracking up, plagued by fear and doubt that he had never experienced before. His soul capsizes while Sherlock struggles as hard as he can. He clings to what is familiar, relying on his senses, using its ability of deduction, fighting against the trouble that keeps gnawing at him. His hurtful words are not voluntary, but are probably the result of the fight he tries so hard to wage.

When I first saw this episode, at the very end when John said, "I wonder why," I said, "ouch." When John tells you that you don't have friends because you're cold and calculating like that, you know you are, because John rarely downs on anyone.
Bravo. Cumberbatch's performance raises deeper and unaddressed fears of the character of Holmes. Was Sherlock more fearful of the Hound or of Dr. Mortimer's covetousness? A brief note on Holmes' deductions in Sir Arthur's original story. Perhaps the bite marks on Mortimer's walking stick were intended to make the subject matter more accessible for a broader readership, while also nodding to a small circle of readers. Although there is a discrepancy of chronology lest Watson be an occasional unreliable narrator, could the Hound of Conan Doyle have symbolized a modern "Brazen Bull-dog"? ;)

Well a nomination at least...
1:33 No Spock : he is Khan
KHAAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!!
x) Yes I know what you did here
There are even theories that sherlock is an ancestor of spock. Dont ask me how ;D. this theory exists solely because of spocks statement: An ancestor of mine once said "once you rule out the imppossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true!"
Weird XD But my father would love it
No, Sherlock Holmes is fiction in the Star Trek universe. Spock is probably related to Conan Doyle.
All I can say is... Wow!!!!! Benedict is a master
i love thiss scene because you can see what is really important to john. He could stand every kind of situation, but he just can't stand sherlock rejecting his frienship. (Sorry for bad english)
Damn it's sometimes so hard to listen very carefully to what sherlock says especially english is unfortunately my second language
I have a hard time understanding everything he says sometimes, and English is my first language, lol.
I am afraid I am in the same situation. So, I watch the chapters with english subtitles. English class with Sherlock Holmes lol!
iMade I speak English as a first language but the grammatical rules and homophones are ridiculous! I'm learning French and German and we're always told by languages teachers how fortunate we are to have learned English as a first language.
wow amber..that sounds so.."great" haha. but this way it's a challenge for me because I want to study English anyway
iMade Good luck!
Absolutely Brilliant portrayal of Sherlock by Benedict. Loved his display of vulnerability.
He makes me jump when he yells, "There is nothing wrong with me! Do you understand?!!"
John saying “it was dark and scary” gives me life
I love how he mocks John before he even says anything, it´s beautiful
2:19 Incredible shot. the way they pul focus to both of them, showing the fear on Sherlocks face and the disbelief on John’s. Still cant believe this is a TV show
I know right?! This show is way too cinematically beautiful for a BBC show! Absolutely blew me away. The whole thing is so well shot
Fist time i see Sherlock afraid :/
JungKook Jeon It was the first episode I watched from that show
he needs a hug.....😿
IKR
incredible acting... he Can Talk sooo fast but in rl he talks very fast too so... anyway its just awesome
"Emotions" the only thing that betrayed him.
Never in my life would I ever thought I would see Sherlock afraid until this episode. Love this episode
Even on french version he’s really faster the guy who dubbed him did an incrededible work
This man is one hell of an actor. This scene still amazes me after all these years
2:58 that face. OMG I love him so much.
This episode was so flippin' tense.
I am learning the English language, and for me Sherlock is being very important for my learning. I learn a lot watching these episodes
THIS SCENE DESERVES ALL THE AWARDS OUT THERE
Benedict: how fast do I have to talk in this scene
Director: yes
Sherlock's greatest moments.
I wanna do what sherlock does so bad!!
we all do
nobody is smart enough to do that
swimmer8585 still would be an amazing thing to do
Some Random Guy True. Where did you hear that? I heard it on a show about detective fiction.
pretty much any detective can do that, but nowhere near that fast, or just by looking at the person
And this was the moment when I fell in love with this show!
I could watch this again and again and again.
"Yes,obviously." Sherlock in a nutshell!
You are not you when you are hungry.Give him Snickers
Smaug And Bilbo never been so close like this
That 'I wonder why' at the end was brilliant
this has to be my favourite scene from Sherlock
I love that Sherlock was able to get all clues together while Deducing who the bad guys are
When I first saw this episode, at the very end when John said, "I wonder why," I said, "ouch."
When John tells you that you don't have friends because you're cold and calculating like that, you know you are, because John rarely downs on anyone.
3:25 BEHOLD THE FACE
One of the best and most entertaining pieces of acting I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Benedict Cumberbatch is ridiculously talented.
Although there is a discrepancy of chronology lest Watson be an occasional unreliable narrator, could the Hound of Conan Doyle have symbolized a modern "Brazen Bull-dog"? ;)
"There's nothing wrong with me." Yes, there is. It's called pride.
I speak like that all the time drives my family insane then I just say "Sherlock"
Haha
Plot twist - Moriarity didn't really die, he used some of that fear hallucination gas and the power of suggestion
I always thought he faked his death but I never imagined he'd use the gas
I cant even remember a 3 word sentence and he remembers a whole freaking script,i need him to teach me his ways.
“I don’t have FRIENDS.”
“…”
“..”
“Wonder why.”
MY HEART-
Cuts to the scene with Redbeard in the River
This scene is Sherlock's final transformation into becoming a human...
I AGREE SO MUCH!!!!!’
NEVER CLICKED ON A NOTIFICATION THAT FAST
This is amazing though like everything the emotions setting acting everything is perfect
A Disdainful Sherlock: "I don't have *_friends."_*
A Hurt Watson: _"I wonder why."_
