    In this video, I will show you how to install a split jamb interior door. I will show you how to remove the door and trim before installing the new door. Stayed tuned for part 2, where I will spackle and paint the door and jamb.
    Edit: Many have asked why I didn't use shims. I use shims if my door isn't level. This door was plumb and so shims were not needed.
    Type of Door:
    - Arched top, split jamb, hollow core door from Home Depot
    Tools Used:
    - Hammer
    - Prybar or Reciprocating Saw
    - Finish Nail Gun
    - Air Compressor
    - Screw Gun
    - Utility Knife

    I've watched somewhere close to 10 videos on pre-hung doors. This is the only one that really shows how simple it is to install these split casings. I have a history of overthinking things and this is just what I needed to see. You didn't even need to use a level or shims. Outstanding video! Keep up the good work!!!

    Watched a few other installs on youtube. This is the first one with good tips on removing the old casing. I tore some drywall try to pry the old jamb off on my first door attempt. The sawzall method is much better. Will do better on the next seven doors to go. Thumbs up.

    This is perfect!!! Everyone keeps telling me to pay someone (over a couple thousand I might add) but I have all the tools in your video so I feel like I could do it now. I love how you showed everything (like even taking the staples out). Way more informative than the other 12 videos I’ve seen on TH-cam!

    If the door is short, just take off door and add what you need to the bottom and stain them, Save you moneys and time and have a better door, these were great doors to trashed them and oaks trimming is about as good as you can get at 3.00 a running foot, May even be higher now, Great ideal on door by someone but the door you pulled was my favorite, Thanks for the video

    Waaay off topic but any thoughts on how to soundproof or dampen sound between upstairs and a basement?

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on sound proof you want it. You can put sound board on the ceiling and then drywall. You can also insulate between the floor joist. It's cheaper to do this while it is new construction because adding this later will be more costly.

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on what you want. If your new door fits well in the existing jamb just replace the slab and trim. I usually replace the whole thing because I went with a paint grade jamb. My existing one was stain grade. Thanks for watching!

    i have never heard of a split case prehung door. i was assuming id have to buy the standard one piece prehung door. this certainly seems a lot easier. not sure why or how a level/shims are not needed. i have never installed a prehung door, so this is all new to me. all my walls are plaster so i hope its the same process

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The plaster walls should not make any difference.
      I have been hanging doors for many years but I have not been making TH-cam videos for many years. So for the viewer's sake I wish I would have used shims and a level. I did not use shims because my wall was plumb and I already knew that and therefore shims were not needed. I'll try to do another video showing the use of shims and a level.
      Thanks for watching! I appreciate your comment.

    Mark, would this split frame style of door be suitable for the door that goes from living space in the house to the attached garage? It typically has a heavier construction than, let's say, a bedroom door. For security I suppose.

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Generally, you use an exterior solid core door that is fire rated. A split-jamb like in the video would not be to code. Thanks for watching!

    That was very nice of you to share this .. I just bought the same exact one and have no idea how to do it.. so yeah , thank you.. by the way.. what was wrong with the old door if you dont mind me asking ... I kind of liked it better and it looked much stronger and the color was genuine and beautiful.. anyways .. I appreciate it. I know you had mentioned that the old door had a small gap at the bottom, but couldnt that have been fixed somehow? just wondering for future purposes 😊

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! The old door was hallow and cut for carpet which was removed and now way too short. The new door is lower and solid core. We wanted white doors for a more modern look but the wood color is very nice too.

    • @ccatdaddy64
      @ccatdaddy64 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gap at bottom. You could fill in that gap but that presents some problems. You could get a piece of wood, cut to the length of the door x thickness of the door x the height (amount you want to add to the door). Cutting the length should be easy, if your stock wood is the thickness of the door, then you won't have to worry about that, the height, probably a 1/2, may prove to be a tricky cut. You will need a table saw or, as I used to da before I had a table saw have it attached to a bigger sacrificial wood board.
      The problem is, the grain of the stiles are vertical and the rails are horizontal and you peice you added, the grain will be will be vertical and it will show the end grain.
      If varnished, there is no way to hide this. If painting you will need to sand it to a very fine finish to hide this. This will not really work out unless you work with wood often.
      It would likely be better to leave as is or replace unless you just want a project and want to increase your wood working and finishing skills.

    I have an important question about this subject, I’m working on replacing a door jamb and all the components but due to termites the framing behind the door jamb have been all but completely eaten away, is it safe to remove the entire stud to simply replace them or are the studs in interior doorways load bearing studs and what would be the best course of action for this repair?

    • @ShowMeConstruction
      @ShowMeConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replace the studs. Taking one stud at a time out isn't going to make the wall fall down. If you see active termites you should treat them first. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    what a bad video , you didn't install the door knob and lock ...... Just Kidding :) , very informative and easy to understand. I will be using these techniques to install french doors . I loved it.

    I think you really have to pay attention when buying these. Some of the tolerances are pathetic. You really notice this when you go and put the door handle assembly on and the door wont latch because they didn't center the edge bore on the side of the door.

      Yes, very true. It's important to inspect the door before you purchase it. Thanks for commenting!

    Why are we taking out everything? Can't we just take out the door only and install a new door.

      Yes, you can. I replaced the jamb because I wanted to change my stain grade to paint grade. But you can certainly just replace the door.

    can this be done without the nail gun?

      Yes, you would use two inch finish nails with a small head. Set the nails so you can fill them with putty and paint them. Thanks for watching!
