Stay after it, GT! You've done so well health-wise - not easy to do in the music business... late nights, restaurant food, lots of sitting when working on the guitar. Seeing you out on the trails is awesome man! We want you healthy, wealthy, and wise for a looooong time to come my good man!! 🙏
Don’t leave God out of the equation Mr G. He’s the source of all strength and success. Thanks for all you do for us, you have the Best guitar channel hands down
after 20 years of basically glorified noodling ive decided to actually focus on the CAGED shapes and associated scale positions and generally following your advice from previous videos - what a difference - thanks for the insight - completely busted through my boring playing. you the man.
Love the natural, funny, interesting, cool TH-cam vid Mr Trapp. Never been to Nashville, but currently persuading the boss (my wife) to get there and Austin within the year. We live in Scotland and love live music, especially with talented guitarists and musicians and can’t think of a better couple of places to head to! Looking forward to more tips & tales from Trapp!
What a SMOOTH OPERATOR you are, Guthrie!! Those little chords starting at 4:00 switch the mode from Aeolian to Dorian… I’m by no means the monster player you are, but I know my guitar/theory, and I’ll can play… I can’t wait to jam with you guys someday!!! I will happen…. Cheers all!
Thank you for sharing, GT. That's a beautiful place and it's cool that it's special to you. Thanks also for the G to C tips. Starting out simple like that and going from there is the path to the best lightbulb moments. You're a good man, GT; you're helping others get a little better. Thank you.
Your generosity is very much appreciated GT! I’ve been playing guitar as a hobbyist since 1972. I’ve learned more from you in the last few years than the previous 4 decades.
My resolution is to learn a good chunk of that solo you played with Kenny Vaughn on “you know it ain’t right”! There are some runs in there that just blow my mind. Thanks for being exactly who you are GT.
Hey GT, thanks for going into a little more depth and specifics in this lesson. I know it seems like basic stuff, but it really helps. We appreciate it!
Thanks Guthrie, as allways nice format! All the best! True words! Very good lesson helps a lot with some so soulfull pentatonic licks between chord, thank you for your time here Mr. Trapp. Your intension is to give something to the world so just e little sign for you that we all really appreciate it. And sorry my comment is long but i was listening to that Truefire Video about Blues comping in this Christmastime and is so out of this world for me, what a Master you are on this piece of wood man.
You are so humble, real amd inspiring. I have your instructional . I haven’t totally digested it yet. Everything you talk about makes so much sense. Such an amazing teacher.
Thanks Guthrie! Always informative always keeping it real! Love your TH-cam channel and just signed up for your artist works program as well and looking forward to that too!
Love the stories! And as one who took a lesson from you. I remember the chilly Nov sunny day and suns natural light giving the proper lighting. Loved that day!!!
Great comments about organizing your day. Exercising , routine and especially not to take too big of a bite. That’s basically my day now. But older and very young at heart Keep it going Guthrie
A nice vacation spot you may enjoy is Wise River Montana, Mr. Gibbons has purhased and invested in my favorite bar on the planet called The Wise River Club. Beautiful country, interesting people and great fishing, and now good music. Not a winter destination... but you would dig it in the Summer.
Very cool! Very stoic ideas coming from you this morning, youngin'. Getting up every day and doing your work, hopefully with a good feeling in your heart is the very definition of a creative! Your tale reminded me of a chance meeting with Sting in NYC c1986. You just never know when life's gonna give you a gift. Stay well.
Like number 420 and 100th comment. Im on a roll with the synchronicity's. G & C was just what felt right today. Something clicks every time i watch! Thanks GT
Good tips and your story about Van Morrison is exactly how to approach someone like him. A guy I played a gig with said that his son was in a bar in Gulf Shores and Van walked in.
Happy New Year GT ! You are off to a great start with "Trapp's ,Tips and Tales". Love the lessons and stories. Keep them coming and so cool that you met with Mr. Morrison. I got to see him last year at the Santa Barbara Bowl and it was an amazing show. Look forward to more tips and tales form you this year.
ThankQ GT ! A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year cheers from Thailand ! Playing catch-up, the holidays sure can keep you busy anywhere in this world ! Brilliant all around !!! 😎🇺🇸🇹🇭🇺🇸⚓️🎸✅☕️🌶️😸🤠🎯😎
I have a playlist called GT Gold. I just added this one. Thanks man you have helped me grow as a 51 year old bedroom player immensely. My goal is to play with my buddies this year and I think I'm ready to represent. Someday I'm coming to Nashville and buying you a beer!
Great stuff, I’ve always been so concerned with modes, but this stuff makes me sound so musical. And this is what most people enjoy when you play for guitar for non musicians, anyway.
Gotta jot this down before it escapes me! New invention idea: Multi-purpose Telecaster. Mount a fishing reel in front of the knobs and the switch. Enjoy castin' while pickin' and grinnin'. If trout fishin', I'd recommend a high E-pound test line with miniature marshmallows. Patent pending.
Guthrie, what music were you listening to when growing up? we in the UK never had a great amount of Nashville Blues, Country unless it was Dolly or Skynyrd both brilliant artists, you must have had an influence to be able to get such a knowledge and skill of the guitar. what a brilliant vid, so different. thanks
Riffing off what you said about staying busy, I keep hearing how touring has become insurmountably expensive, famous or really popular musicians now have to work day jobs, labels have taken a dive, and live venues are closing. I don’t know how much of that is true or if I’m just being a pessimist. Nothing wrong with learning just for the sake of learning, and I will do that gladly…but hard to imagine how anyone can dream or strive for a “success” in the industry that increasingly looks like something you have to cobble together like a jigsaw puzzle while still working at a 9-5… I keep thinking “things need to change” but not sure what that would look like either. We can’t really go back to the old business model, but it seems like the streaming platforms are creating a hellish landscape for an aspiring player who wants to make a career….AI coming along isn’t gonna help either.
Just saw BFG for the 3rd time here in south Nash CVS. He must stay close by to where I live? I was thinking, since he's so nice to you... a fun gift back would be a case or 2 of Coke... since he's always buying a them every time I see him. :)
Bob is weird. I used to be a dead head back when the dead were around and he has eaten too much acid. Van is great. Such a unique voice. I used to listen to the Last Waltz a lot and always loved it when he took his turn on stage
I’m sure it’s a personal thing, but I’d be interested to know more about how it went down. I’m always fascinated by Bob’s interviews, and absolutely his guitar playing, but I can definitely see how things might seem “off” meeting him for the first time in a crowded room and trying to connect. He seems like a lone wolf with ego in flux, and GT’s just got this killer charisma that shines through in his guitar playing as well as his ability to instantly brighten a room (not to mention the whole internet). Guthrie, thank you for all you do! Like so many others here, I’ve learned more in 2 years of watching your videos than I did in the two decades prior. I remember when I started watching your videos, barely able to follow along, and now the dots keep connecting more and more, every time you post. We are all here for it! Thank you!
"Nebulous" scored Guthrie ten points on the Scrabble board. Eight letter word, four letter payoff. That's LIFE, friends. Onward and upward. (That would be Chutes and Ladders.)
Van Morrison is notoriously shy. Even to this day, before a concert, he has to be coaxed out of the loo by his management because he still gets stage fright. On a bad night he might not even dare speak to the audience and only play for 45 minutes.
Awesome. Always such a clear, fluid playing style. You were talking about playing around with jazz Christmas stuff. The Charlie Brown - Christmas Time Is Here is a fun, simple one. I was going back over Bill Lafleur's Cocktail guitar arrangements last weekend. In the Hal Leonard book series. I really like playing his version of Body & Soul and Fly Me to the Moon. Thanks for the great tips!
When you’re playing unaccompanied, it sounds great. But if you’re playing along with a G-C progression, does playing F work? I’ll dust off the looper and give it a try. Thanks.
@@6969jezabel they reckon there's no 'wrong' notes. Maybe not diattonic to the key of G. How much dissonance do you like to bend the ear. 2 chords are a bit ambiguos to what key it is. F makes the G dom7,bluesy & the C.sus4 sweet yep Its good to investigate & discover stuff yourself 🤘

Trap, you make some of the best videos on TH-cam. Thank you
Love that Cm progression! I stopped the video and tried it immediately. Too cool!!
Glad you liked it!

Lots of good thoughts here Guthrie. Sustainability is the name of the game.
Love ya Guthrie!
Great story! Van the Man did a double live album a bunch of years back in San Fran. It was fantastic. Think I wore it out.
Yes. I love that record. A lesson in all things music. An epic record!!
Positive energy and vibes! Rock on GT!
Opening tune reminds me of a Willam Bell tune
Just got back from San Francisco. Major improvements. It’s getting back to being a great city again.
Glad to hear it!
Guthrie you are the best ! Man thank you for your insight and inspiration!

Thank you ! And happy new year from France
Happy new year!
If the story would have ended with Van Morrison calling you up to do some recording I wouldn’t have been surprised. Cathartic episode.
5:08 Preach! Formant Trajectories is one of my favorites in regards to this. But that whole record is about 30 songs packed into 11 tracks.
Good tips and your story about Van Morrison is exactly how to approach someone like him. A guy I played a gig with said that his son was in a bar in Gulf Shores and Van walked in.

Love the triple T’s lessons for us old guys!!
Thanks GT, love the bonus footage too.
Great story about Van Morrison and you in SF. I lived there in the late '60s, and it was the best rock scene ever. I'm glad you are embracing it.
I’m glad you enjoyed the story.

Guthries tips and tales: "i once ate an elephant, but not all at once " 😂 great video and story as always, thanks Guthrie
Glad you enjoyed it!

Cool story! The tales are tipping scales!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!

great Van the Man story ! All the best for 2025 mate . ( Leigh . Sydney Australia )
+1 for the redwoods, just amazing area. I went to University of Miami, too, so no bias;)
Thanks, the redwoods are amazing!
Im gonna start to write a book called Guthrie Trapps cool chord progressions , for personal use
Here's wishing you all the Luck in the World. And then some...

You not using a microphone always surprises me. The sound quality is good for a phone mic.

DUDE, AMEN!: 12:52
If it doesn’t have heart, why are we playing it?!?!
"Nebulous" scored Guthrie ten points on the Scrabble board. Eight letter word, four letter payoff. That's LIFE, friends. Onward and upward. (That would be Chutes and Ladders.)
Seems like a jam you'd play if you met a gin soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis?
Dig it, man, and Ƙeith approved.
I’m getting “Night Moves” by Bob Seger vibes
Cool I'm sure Van Morrison would love to work with you ..
Thanks! I’d love to play with him too.
I used to have personal business cards with just my first name and phone number. Use the highest quality paper.😊

that mystery chord is maybe AMaj7?
me an' my homies are tighter than a glove
we chop a lot of game, that's how we do it at tha playaz club
GT...what happened to that pepper? 🧔♂
Cool. You’re going G-C, then you add F. Does that work if there’s no F in the progression? Thanks
I’m not sure what you’re point is here.
F is flat7 in G
Also the 4 chord in C
Sounded fine to me.
Transition/passing chord, embellishment.
Even if not in the progression, its a good tip
If your ear likes it, it works.
