I’m just loving this video; please ignore the guys who say it’s too long- they aren’t pen aficionados. For the rest of us, pens are all about the feelings they generate. And that’s exactly what you’re talking about! Any updates (of the same length- or more) will be much appreciated 😊
You can do it! I always set some pen purchases as a rewarding time after long working periods throughout the year and I can see a Gravitas being just the perfect reward for you.
These ‘top 10’ videos are some of the most interesting and entertaining to watch. I haven’t bought a Leonardo pen yet. Your list has a couple of them. And all the pens you picked as personal favorites in this specific price bracket are great. I really fancy that Gravitas pen. I thought up my own list in the $300 or less category. Stipula Etruria Rainbow Prisma (V-flex steel nib) Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe (14k 1.2 mm italic) Aurora Talentum ( 14k Italic) Pilot Custom Heritage 912 (14k Waverly nib) Lamy 2000 (14k - BB) Platinum 3776 Celluloid (Jade) 14k B Stipula Florentia (14k - stub) Montegrappa Brenta ($295 sale discount price, steel B nib) Montegrappa Zero (steel F) Stipula Suprema Voyeur ( steel 1.1 stub)
These videos are very personal and this may be a good thing if someone is watching to see a different perspective than theirs or if they are relating to their tase it may be offending 😀 Your list has tons of value for the price 👏🏻
@@pen.venture ..Yea, true what you said about these personal ‘best of’ lists for any given category regarding fountain pens. This is as a very well-done video. Thanks for the kind words regarding my own list. I picked them after much thought. Emy, do you not love Auroras? I don’t think I ever saw you show one that you own. I could be mistaken, of course. Aurora, Stipula (and Montegrappa) make up 80% of my current (downsized) collection of 66 pens.
Great list.I figured that last Nuda would be gone after this video and just checked and it is. Congrats! That Ultemate Vac is still waiting the out come of my next Japan trip.... :) Have a great holiday!
NUUUDAAA!!!! ❤❤ I absolutely LOVE my Leo Nuda PenVen Exclusive it is one of the most beautiful jewels 💎 in my wife’s FP addictio…. I mean collection. 😉 😉 😂 Always great to watch your videos Emy thanks for everything you bring to the FP community!!! -Greg S.
Thank you! What an enjoyable list -- but of course, I'm a tad biased since I have a number of these (including the latest Gravitas -- waiting for me under the Christmas tree), While it's true that none of these are inexpensive, they're all solid values and within reach for more people.
Fair enough! I would say that im a bit more biased than you are :)) since I have them all - I had to start here because of how many pens I have and also how upwards close to 300 most of my entry pens are
Yeahhhh, Arabian Nights on nr 1 🎉🎉🎉 my first purchase from you, Emy! That was a big step into the rabbit hole 😂 Thanks for this video, nice to hear your personal opinions. As for my no 1.... I don't know haha. There are so many beautiful and good pens in my collection, that I should maybe just go for my simple blue Lamy Safari (F nib) that my sister gifted me last year. It came with a blue cartridge and that's what I have been filling it with since that first day. It's special because she gave it to me and it writes lovely. My other pens, I think, are equally cool, so I can't choose. I think I really like pens that look impressive ❤️
Thank you my dear 🤗🫶🏻 Arabian nights was such a hit and I loved the feeling of making it, present and launch it … then seeing it being so well received, gives me goosebumps thinking now. Just so you know I fill up my lamy cartridges when no one is looking too 🤣🤣
Excellent! BTW ... for my Pilot 912, I purchased an ebonite feed from "The Flexible Nib Factory". No flow issues at all. In my opinion, a must have with that "falcon" nib. Cheers!
Thanks for the info Dave ! I really need to give it a try and have one of these feeders for my 912 and maybe I find something for my 823 as well :D Cheers
I love how you choose the pens in your list. Part of the fun of fountain pens, is each year new pens come and some are good enough to change the top 10 lists.
pfff, mostly Italian pens... I love everything about Italy, I am an Italy fan, I dream of buying a house there... I dream of living there one exception being fountain pens made there. I've always been disapointed with their quality. Japanese and German fountainpens for less than 100 EUR are a lot better quality than anything I came across fro Italy twice or three times the price. The same goes for French pens, too...
:D hmm this is very hard to relate to because we have great experience with italian pens but it depends on which pens and from which retailers are purchased, we always check each batch when it arrives for defective pens, then we send back anything for replacing, then at purchase we check again each pen and each nib, we test them and adjust them... so the experience to our customers is excellent. But this is only looking though our workflow and how we manage retailing pens, some other retailers cant have this control due to high volumes or just they dont want to be that detail oriented
Such a beautiful list. My #1 pen today is the Good Blue L130 with a Zoom nib, which I was drawing with as I watched this video. The rest of my list is various Sailors and Franklin-Christophs.
A convincing list, beautiful fountain pens! Too bad the most gorgeous Momento Zeros don't come in both sizes. Grande are too big for my liking. You probably know already, regarding PILOT's FA nibs you could consider an aftermarket feed to fix the flow issue. Those from Flexible Nib Factory are well regarded. Anyways, thank you!
Thank you for the feedback :D Yes some MZ come in only MZ series and Grandes in Grandes. To be honest im eyeing out an Ebonite feeder for so long, but I cant understand which to get for what pen how many channels .... complicated stuff - would love to mod my FA nib with that feeder and do a video Before/After
I really enjoy watching your videos! But I am left just a bit confused. When you talk about the pens you pick for your personal collection you don’t spend time on talking about how they write. With me, appearance is the first thing I see and if I like the appearance I inspect more deeply, especially the way a pen writes. If it doesn’t write smoothly, almost like butter on glass, I don’t choose it. This is really important to me in selecting a pen but I get the impression appearance seems most important to you. Am I wrong? Also, I can’t resist asking you about a pen you reviewed a couple of years ago, the Sailor Hiroshima Commemorative Limited Edition, a handsome pen in Juniper Wood. You couldn’t resist buying it for your personal collection. I had found it equally irresistible and it is one of my three grail pens. I can’t help wondering, do you still have it in your collection?
That's a great list. I'll be curious to see the Pilot Custom 823 vs Gravitas Ultem Vac Demo video. I'm writing with both of those pens right now (well, I have the acrylic rather than the Ultem). At the moment I'd put the Pilot above the Gravitas on my list. On my two pens, the Pilot has a much nicer nib. Also, the acrylic threads on the plunger cap goes onto metal threads which chews up the plastic and makes it cloudy. That really ruins the effect of the otherwise perfectly clear pen. I think the Ultem material may do better in this regard so I'm curious to see how yours is holding up.

thank you so so much for the feedback and now I feel empowered to continue with cool things that I have planned for the channel and my people :D
Great and fun vid. Love Ben Walsh pens. The model you have is a goal for me. Wow.

So true! Taste and the market always spice things up each year so it must be reflected in this top 10 list
Amazing video.
Glad you think so! :D the next tier is coming later today
I love the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande Nuda? I hope I can find one.
As of now - they are sold out, we have one rose gold just left, and one gold trim waiting for a nib size change and going towards its new owner
@@pen.venture thank you for the information.

A lot of italien pen. Interesting point of View
Well - it’s safe to say that my collection is 75% Italian pens so that’s what I have

Thank you 🤝 I have not yet tried and Franklin-Christophs , how are they ?
Is there anything special about the zoom nib on that pen or is it pretty normal for a zoom?
@@adamred5449 I have no idea, as I haven't used any other zoom enough to compare. I do recommend this one without reservation.
@@pen.venture I like them because every nib is tuned before leaving the factory, and they have quite a wide range of nibs.

Hi Emy, that Arabian Nights looks absolutely stunning. Those purples and browns look like an amazing combo together.
Thanks so much! 😊

Hehe … it can be 👍🏻😄 epic pen that one
Nice selection
Thanks for feedback :D
Cool idea ,but holly f dude 20+ minutes about fountain pens?. It's unwatchable . You could do it in 5 min and it will be way better.
just x2 it or x3 it - im enjoying my time when I talk pens :D
