- I found almost no good explanation of exactly how a Magic Keyboard'a (A1843) keys should be taken off and put on. After damaging a few and fixing them, here's how I learned to do it.

I almost threw mine into the trash, as I was trying to get a grad school paper done at a deadline and the "s" stopped working. I found this video, and boom. You are a lifesaver!
Super useful guide! Thanks
Be aware that the lower right key (the right arrow) is basically upside-down, the key is the same as the left arrow but Apple, in order to save in production cost, turned it upside down. So basically for this key the procedure has to be done from the upper part of the key and then sliding the key upwards.
I was one of those who did the escape key the wrong way the first time and could not get it to pop back top again after putting it back on. came looking for help and your video helped perfectly! my esc key is all better so thank you!!!!!
You, sir, just saved me $100, AND taught me how to avoid paying $100 over and over again in the future!
One billion likes.
Thanks for detailed video and explanation. I almost damaged the new butterfly before it )
OMG! Finally, I had seen like 5 videos explaining how to "slide it in" but none acknowledged what can happen to the top hooks (if trying to insert them in incorrectly). I just fixed the top hooks by force and now I was able to fix it! THANK YOU
Thank you! I just pried up a little bit on the bottom of both keys I was having trouble with, blew some air from my mouth, and both keys now work. I have the a1843 apple keyboard, and did not have to take the keys off.
Worked like a charm, thank you! Bought a refurbished magic keyboard on Amazon, thought I was going to have to return it with the "o" key not going down correctly. Used this method and now good as new!
Excellent explanation of how to reinsert the key and what could happen to the little tabs if you push straight down (as another video said to do). Because I got bad info, I had to "reform" those tabs. Fortunately this video explained that, I was able to reform them, salvage the key, and got it back in correctly.
Thank you, this worked perfectly on the A1843! A cautionary tale, our butter knives were too thick so I tried removal of a worn key using a precision screwdriver: bad idea - it worked but scarred the aluminum casing. Next I tried a plastic knife (the picnic kind) which also wasn't fine enough, then a fine-bladed cheese spreading knife - too wide. I finally remembered I had an old shop gap guage and selected a just-right blade that worked perfectly. The left/right wiggle move saved the day. Also, each removed key turned up a nasty mix of dusty stuff wedged in the cut-outs in the casing. I got those out with Q-tips and compressed air. I only wish I had the patience to clean every key - but I'm sure I'd break more trying to fix it. Good video and thanks for the tip!
This is a really helpful explanation, and I now have my keyboard back after spilling orange juice on it! I found the can opener on my Swiss Army pen knife provided the range of leaver widths necessary to do the job, along with 98% isopropyl spray. Thanks again!👍
I tried it the first way and I thought I had damaged it. Thank you for this tutorial, you fixed my problem!
Thank you so much! bought a Touch ID keyboard off eBay for a great price. The I and command buttons were very mushy though. Just tried your technique and its working like new
Thank you so much! There was just one key that wouldn't work properly and it was driving me nuts! I was considering buying a new keyboard! But your instructions on how to safely remove keys was perfect
Thanks for the tips. Especially the sliding the key out and in. Makes my day. I also used a tooth crevice brush with rubbing alcohol to clean instead of cotton wool stick.
Yes, I was here because I popped it back on and it wouldn’t work. I actually damaged one of my keys but knowing how they go back on, I was able to fix it! Thanks!
Thank you! Worked wonderfully. M key was getting stuck on my keyboard, so I took it out using this guide and cleaned it out, put it back on with no issues and now everything works fine! I also used a gift card instead of a butter knife because that's what I had on hand.
Thanks for that! I was wondering where I always had a problem when disassembling and reassembling.
Worked perfectly. Y had popped out! Luckily watched your video before doing anything. Thx again! Best wishes!
Thank you for your video. I've been having a sticky Delete button these days. Finally popped open the Delete button and used a qtip with alcohol and boom.... fixed!
show the space bar.
Please
Super helpful. My "T" key has been working intermittently for a year. Would always work if I pushed down all the way but not as responsive as all the others. Thanks for the video. Did it right the first time and it was an easy clean. Works like a champ now! TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT see? :)
Thanks! You saved me. Great great video.
Oh Thank you. Earlier I was just pushing it in and it was getting stuck. This helped !
Thank you very much. I could fix my keyboard with your video. Much appreciated
This technique worked, thanks for the tutorial. I have one butter knife that is thin enough!
Thank you so much ! You saved me a trip to the Apple Store 😂
Very helpful, thank you for making the video!
Very helpful. Thank you!
Great Video! Worked on my 2021 iMac keyboard
Looks like you just saved me some bucks, thanks a lot.
Many thanks! I was struggling with this. You tips led me to an easy fix.
Thank you!!! I've been trying to place the space key for an hour. It didn't fit in any way!!!
Are you using the iKnife or will any butter knife work?
Awesome video! Thanks so much. I fixed one of the keys I use for my password 😂
This tutorial is very useful. Yet i'm not gonna use this to clean keys, but rather to paint my mac keyboard into red to make it look good! :D
thank you one of my keys were sticky and now i finally fixed it
thanks, just helped me fix my "z" key!
Worked perfectly, thank you!!
Hey Buddy, can you show, how to do this with the long space key?
This was perfect! Thank you. Could also do a video for the enter key, the zero key, etc the differently shaped keys …?
Worked properly! Thanx 👍👍👍
What about the control key or a keyboard with the mettle bar?
I may have damaged butterfly piece in removing my U cap. Having a hard time replacing. Please tell me about “needle” technique. Thank you!!!
Thank you, it was helpful!
Really helpful, thank you.
Ok, so I've seen the taking the key off, and putting it back on.....but where is the "fixing" part???
Thank you!!! That was very helpful.
Do you need the official apple knife tool to remove these or can I wing it with something less cutlery based...? all kidding aside, your video was spot on. Thanks for posting.
you are the GOAT
Hi
What can be the problem , when I press some of the keys it comes double character or more instead only one character!
Advice Needed. I have the same keyboard as this one but it is wired. but when I press 789 on the numerical pad it comes back as 123. do you know of a fix?
BEAUTIFUL THANK YOU!
How to clean key after removing plastic below key. Please inform. Regards
Thank You
Thanks !
I was never able to fix a broken keyboard, especially after the dog chewed thru the cable twice, even after re-connecting the 4 wires in the cable it still didnt work. and to-day after simply wiping the keytops with a paper towel slightly dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean them, "b" and "n" no longer work, after carefully just removing the N key as shown- now the entire row Z through / no longer works, the things are just way too sensitive and no longer work like the old mechanical keyboards with contacts used to. So the Macally aluminum keyboard goes in the trash and I ordered new one just now.
The keyboard was 8 months old, used every day, time to get a new one anyway.
Feel that good action on it
the butterfly plastic thing fell out.
Nice!
Wish I saw your video before I forced two keys in and damaged those top parts...tried to fix and now one side of the two keys spring up but the other halves are just preeminently sunk in.
smh
you can use a needle to pry out those top parts, that's what I did, and it went back working perfectly again even though they are still uglily damaged, but somehow it works like the video suggested
my 'y" is typing out 'z' and the 'z' is typing out 'y'. Do you think cleaning out the keys will fix it or should i just buy another keyboard?
Amazing!! thank you!!
Ciao ! I need to swap the z and y keys .. can’t stand to use the qwertz keyboard 😅
Thank you very much.
My key won't go back on - just gets jammed in. It's driving me nuts!
Had the same problem yiu have to hook it
My thug just gets stuck
Thumbs up and subscribed!
Caps lock key please.
I cleaned still dont work one letter “t”
How do I reput in the part under the key
My D key was flaking out!
Yeah this shit cost a 130 and my “5” key was sticky and I’m not trying to break it , thanks bud
I have a fast easy method with a tiny hook
TY a lot...!!!!
Good video thanks.
I’m not a fan of this type of keyboard however, way too fragile. Those super tiny plastic tabs and the switches themselves are way too easy to damage. Most laptops and many chiclet style keyboards are like this. Makes me want to get a mechanical keyboard.
tysm 😀
TYSM
I think i break my key
???
mudak
Clean your finger nails !
Dude needs to trim his nails
Very helpful. Thank you.
thanks!
thanks!
