    I wish that I had seen this earlier before making a purchase on eBay. Following your video instructions, I was able to remove the corroded battery without any hassle. My wife always tells me to check TH-cam first, which I failed to do. Thanks for posting your video.

    worked like a charm. had no idea that the little gray panel came off. LOL... If you're ever in Kensington, London, give me a shout, I owe you a pint for this fix.

    I was all ready to try a small Easy Out. A .410 shotgun cleaning brush works great to clean up the inside of the compartment.

    I suggest using rechargeable batteries. I have never had one leak or get stuck in my electronics. Thanks for the video. I thought there was a battery stuck in a used keyboard I bought for a gift, but after watching your video I realized it only has 2 batteries. LOL!

      Rechargeable batteries are less prone to leaking (if you buy quality batteries) than normal. Getting lithium batteries costs a bit more, but are well worth it in the long run

    Great advice! Following your video, I managed to remove & clean up the mess left by the offending battery. With new batteries, as soon as the keyboard is turned on the screen turns on as well. Only problem is that it does not type which means I cannot sign in. Any idea?

    • @GeirAndersenRepairs
      @GeirAndersenRepairs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would inspect the flex cables and contacts. If they're looking good, I inspect the logic board very closely (preferably under a microscope) for corrosion and damage. Since the screen comes on right away, I suspect that it's "spamming" key presses 🥴

    Why did Apple have to make the battery cover a cap that you had to remove it with a coin it should’ve been a button

      I know, right! I actually swapped out my AMK for one from JLAB that supports 3 devices; Supports Mac/iOS, Windows AND Android. I have it connected to my MacBook Pro, Google Pixel 8 Pro and Lenovo Tab P12. Switching is as simple as pressing a button!

      @@GeirAndersenRepairs sometimes the battery acid spills all over the compartment and fuses the metal cap to the aluminum housing. This happened in my case. So far I have been trying soak it in various chemicals: vinegar, alcohol, lemon juice. Nothing worked so far. The worst case scenario is to drill the cap out.

    • @GeirAndersenRepairs
      @GeirAndersenRepairs  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @donovannorth3857 Wow, I've never had one that was that stuck! Wonder if it would work to "soak" the area / compartment using >=35% vinegar, just to try and dissolve the leakage. Then drenching it in IPA again and also maybe try some lubricant like WD40 and / or electronics cleaner from CRC? About all I can think of at the moment :)

    • @GeirAndersenRepairs
      @GeirAndersenRepairs  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use 99.9% and I wouldn't use anything under >99% personally. Just because there's the possibility of "pollution" from the additives

      Removing the logic board allowed me to take a different run at things, successfully. Along the way, I realised there are a number of very subtle gotchas still possible _beyond_ a stuck, corroded battery.
      If your keyboard has ever been dropped, and has landed on either rear corner, you may find that the deformation of the thin wall of aluminum surrounding either the switch or the battery compartment screw cap has become distorted and (very subtly) is holding the otherwise removable item captive in the relevant location. Cutting away the last millimeter of either end of the cylindrical 'foot' of the keyboard won't prevent it from going back together and working correctly (ceteris paribus).
      Anyway, the stuck battery in the much-abused keyboard I'm using at the moment to thank and praise Geir had, ultimately, to be removed using a length of stainless steel rod running through the entire length of the foot -- slide-hammer style, and with considerable force, and several strokes. And this was _after_ my having had to cut away a section of the 'foot' over the outer battery using a cut-off wheel on a Dremel tool. Someone had -- for reasons I can't imagine -- hammered the outside of the battery compartment at about the midpoint of the outer battery. This distortion of the compartment meant that it would have been impossible to remove the battery even if it hadn't been corroded in place...
