    Wow that took a lot of work! I threw on my B&O headphones to try and appreciate the difference. I honestly can't tell the difference between the stock and the modded AW. Thus I'm not sure it's worth it for the extra chassis vibration. One thing that is clearly demonstrated is that MB is on another level. Heck my 13' MB Air sounds better my i9 R1 AW. One day this noob will follow your liquid metal guide and change out the thermal paste. Thank you for your videos!!!

      That's simply not true. In this video, the Alienware has more body and presence in the low-end. Which surprises me as the Alienware laptops haven't really had great speaker quality since ditching the Klipsch partnership and going from a 2.1 set up with larger woofers, to smaller thin speakers.

    • @damienlobb85
      @damienlobb85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upon further listening to the last comparison. It seems like the Alienware at first seems fuller but its only because its softer and doesn't seem to have as much clarity. Pretty disappointing showing really. My ASUS ROG Scar 15 has much nicer speakers. Much closer to the 16" MBP. I wonder if its because of the amplifiers ASUS use (smart voltage-boosted amps) or the Dolby tuning?.. I'm not sure. One thing I will say about the MBP, they do tend to be too treble-heavy.

    fyi the x14 speaker sound way better than all other models, if you have a chance to check them out in person
    I am willing to bet they are the same speaker but they are up firing and they are padded better (tightly) so the sound doesnt come off as if it were inside a plastic box thefore it gives a much better sound.

  • @dunkonu23

    Having just gotten this laptop, I was worried about speaker sound. My considered opinion is that the speakers just suck. The best sounding laptop I've ever heard is an old Dell XPS 17...it's 12 years old and still blows other laptops out of the water soundwise. My five year old Alienware 17 R4 sounds better than the x17 R2. Oh, well... :)

      OMG I have the same laptop! I recently pulled it out for use as the device to play music through my sound system at my party. Before I had all the PA/sound system set up, I was just playing music through the in-built speakers. Are you talking about the XPS L702X with the JBL branded speakers? They're rated at 22W total. Pretty unheard of in laptops, even up to today.

    In my case I opened it up and found that one of the laptop chassis screws had a nut that must have fallen off and got stuck to a speaker's magnet. Must have happened when it was assembled, the laptop came like this. Removing that finally my crackling gone.

    Interesting to see another happy Dell Alienware customer rying to fix what Dell should have done a much better job with in the first place. My one has more reverberation/vibration issues - on top of the general very poor audio quality. I think you are on the right track, but the sound quality is still so poor you would not choose to do audio calls or play music from the device at all.....which kind of defeats the purpose! Well done on the process you went through for ths though.

    I bought my laptop recently in the black friday sales. i was very excited to recieve it but after using it a while i am so dissapointed to be honest. i thought there was something wrong with my speakers. the sounds all wrong and when i watch tv shows the voices sound muffled and i cant understand what they're saying without really listening. im so annoyed at alienware for this, i cant understand how they can justify a laptop at this pricepoint (3.8K usually, i bought for 3.2 - STILL a hell of a lot of money and will be spending the next year paying it off) with so many sound issues so bad that i thought it was BROKEN.
    also the laptop came... WET. the wrapping around it and laptop itself had condensation on it (the outer box it came in was fine?!) and when i rubbed my finger more than a cm across the wrapping, or laptop or screen there would be water droplets on my finger and on the surface of where im rubbing. what the hell was that about??
    what a waste of 3.2k

  • @damienlobb85

    This is pretty disappointing. I have the ASUS ROG Scar 15 (2021) and it has 2 woofers (down-firing) and 2 tweeters (forward firing from hinge), paired with "smart" voltage-boosted amplifiers. And it sounds much better than all the more recent Alienware laptops. But it still isn't quite as convincing as my 2011 Dell XPS 17 with it's JBL-branded 2.1 set-up. The woofer is 10W and the mid-highs are 6W each. When I had the laptop apart many years ago to upgrade it, I saw the speakers. It looks as though they just took a JBL iPod speaker dock and crammed it into a laptop chassis. As it uses the same aluminum-cone drivers.
