I definitely think that having the option to hook up a key button for engine power more easily should be added, but this microcontroller is already pretty great. Keep up the good work!
I know this video is from a while ago but I just wanted to say thank you! I made a small outboard motor that I was really proud of but the engine controller I was originally using was terrible... I am currently listening to the sounds of my engine running on max power thanks to your controllers and to celebrate, I played in the propellor blades! Thanks again!
a kick down feature would be nice, so lets say the engine is sat at 12 rpm when cruising, if a throttle demand is higher than 0.8 it will automatically switch down to the next gear to improve acceleration
a bigger version would definitely be helpful for those who might build trains or more complicated builds. A speed controller component may potentially aide builders that have a plan in mind don't need unlimited power
I think it is reasonable. Keep in mind 40 rps is only 2400 rpm far lower than most car engines. Even for diesel engines that is not an especially high rpm, it depends on the cylinder bore, eg a semi truck engine runs around 2400-4600 rpm, some massive diesel engines in ships turn at 80 rpm for the long stroke massive bore kind.
You would still be able to start the engine with the hotkey because the hotkey is still an on off, using composite just doenst allow us to use key switches
@@redstone_orange I made a simple microcontroller to do just this. The seat just uses the hotkey as an on off state, and i had a key input into a microcontroller that mimicked the same channel as a seat using the composite read, then had a composite output that went into the seat input node on NJs ecu. i did the same for an external throttle
Found your lever one on steam, but It don't work. The starter works, but lever, even when connected it does not work. It starts and dies, that about it. Don't even know if the transmission part even works. But I know I can't make revers kick in. I don't think my seat sends the signals or something.
Can we get a tutorial on how to set up gear boxes? I understand the basics of torque vs RPS, but not to chain gears together in a way that makes any sense
maybe an ECU that can manage the transmissions to travel as efficiently as possible at a set speed by finding optimal gear ratios and maintaining an efficient rps to power balance instead of waiting to reach a certain rps to up/downshift. in tinkering with workshop creations I've been able to more than double the efficiency of some vehicles by messing with gear ratios and engine power output. I don't know how good it would be for the new modular engines but I would love an ECU like that.
If you didn't want the prop turning when idaling could you conect a normal couch and hook it up to ws on the seat so power will only go through the prop if ws is pushed?
I would like an ECU that also accounts for forced induction [Superchargers / Prochargers] as an optional setting, trust me I know that is a pain in the rear
there's kinda issue with clutch i connected everything accordingly your lil car and when i press 1 to start the engine, my car starts moving with electric motor (used as starter without starter). The clutch (it is attached to gearbox controller) activated by default for some reason. And of course, there's not enough rps to start the engine with fuel and air. Once I disconnect a number value from a clutch, the engine starts working properly. So i don't know what to do
so, you only want to run your engines at a stoichiometric of 0.2 (best power/fuel, best power/heat, best power overall). you need an afr of 13.6+clamp(temperature*0.004,0,0.4) there is no case where you want to run your engine at any other stoichiometric.

The throttle input from the seat doesn’t work either. I toggle the motor on, it revs to max rpm, I toggle the starter off and it dies. It won’t idle like it’s supposed to
MrNJersey, why when i use these two microcontrollers on my boat with small propellers i can't get good speed and trudge like a turtle? three gearboxes are installed, two to the side of the engine (first and rear), one to the side of it
Great Work! Thank you! I have one problem though. Whenever using a/d (reset mode; 100% sensitivity) from my seat for manual gear change the gears just keep going all the way up or down to max or min value, even when the engine is turned off. Its as if the pulse doesnt work. Any ideas?
i've been following the tuorials to the letter but every time i try to use it itwon't respond to my gear changes at all, it also won't idle, and when it moves forward, it just sputters and stops moving after a few seconds please help if possible
I literally made the exact same setup as you and every single time it just cranks and cranks and cranks and then your controller says too much fuel. Isn’t it supposed to adjust for this?
Is there any way to hook up multiple engines with regard to the composite engine data node, currently trying to get a 4 motor plane to work with this ECU.
My boat starts spinning up but at a certain point it starts turning on and off very rapidly. So far i've only gotten it to work by putting 2 gearboxes in at a 3:1 ratio but then it's extremely slow. Is my engine just underpowered or am I missing something
Im currently using this awesome microcontroller. Everything works except reverse. When I change it to reverse on my composite display I have it set to the digit and it shows a dash, im assuming it means it is in reverse. My RPM changes to a negative value, but when I throttle forward the boat does not move. What am I missing?
It's different for every car so just experiment until you find the sweat spot. It is not easy. It takes a lot of time. The first car I built I spent a equal amount of time on body+chassis : engine : gearboxes (about a hour each).
don’t know 100% sure, but my guess would be that maybe you’re over stressing the engine? try adding another gearbox that’s pointed at the engine and set 1 to something like 1:3 and 2 to 1:1 and set that as your first gear, that way your engine has to work 3 times less hard to start up and not instandly killing it and making it use the starter to keep it’s RPS high enough (again though, just a thought, i haven’t actually used any of the modular engine stuff yet, this is just what i’d assume it to be since that’s how it would work on a real engine)
