  • @humanormachine2936

Thank you for addressing this! I don't think many people know why they use toner or why it was originally used in skincare. It's just something we've always been told we should use. There are so many products out now with various ingredients that do very different things, but they're all called "toners", which certainly adds to the confusion regarding what they're for and if using one is necessary. Toners are no longer one type of product (the pH balancing, astringent kind), and more a type of delivery system for various ingredients like acids, bontanical extracts, humectants, etc.
I do enjoy the newer iteration of toners that are meant for hydration. My skin gets dehydrated pretty easily and I noticed that I could apply all the heavy moisturizer in the world and it wasn't making my skin feel much better. Once I started adding a few layers of a hydrating toner (alcohol and fragrance free), I noticed a significant difference in the plumpness and hydration of my skin. It no longer feels tight and I'm able to use less moisturizer. I prefer these kinds of toners over hydrating serums because they feel less sticky and I'd rather not "waste" my serum step on humectants.

all lovely facts I’ve tried both and I love them both. For body I like SPF 30 more as the 200 ml bottled will last longer. It’s also lighter in consistensy, which makes it easier to apply to the body, even if you have alot of body hair. I like the SPF 50 more for the face, neck, ears, head. It’s a bit shinier on the face than the SPF 30, but I feel the SPF 30 is a bit too «watery» for the face. Just my preferance. That is not a negative thing, I just prefer the SPF 50 as it’s easier for me to apply. Both SPF 30 and 50 are extremely cheap, so you can might aswell buy both and try then out. SPF 30 also comes in a 1L bottle which is really nice too

Toner I always think of in different categories: an astringent one like witch hazel, an exfoliating one like an aha or bha and a hydrating one that, for me, does not contain drying alcohols, fragrance or essentials oils and is typically Korean/Japanese and hyaluronic acid-based. I'm personally a fan of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid toner (I apply one or two layers directly after cleansing), the Pyungkang Yul one, the Missha Time Revolution Essence and looking forward to trying out the Hado Labo "Premium" Hyaluronic acid lotion for the harsh winter months. I find it makes a huge difference in the plumpness and glow factor of my skin. Definitely into the Asian formulas and personally avoid the Western ones. :)

      What cleanser u use

    • @wendigo1919
      @wendigo1919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@lonevoyager6026 it depends if you wear makeup and/or a water-resistant sunscreen or not. If you wear those, you might want to use a balm cleanser first on your face to remove those, such as Elf Cosmetics Holy Hydration Melting Cleansing Balm, Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original or Physician's Formula The Perfect Match Melting Cleansing Balm- following instructions. The follow with something like Aveeno Calm + Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser Fragrance-Free (it's non-foaming and super gentle). I would apply this to a dry face and gently massage in for several seconds, then rinse well. I'm a huge believer of non-foaming cleansers for all skin types, personally- they don't strip the skin barrier of moisture. Follow immediately with the rest of your skincare.

"Botanic extracts are poorly studied" and jumping to conclusion that 'it's never better' is just as dumb as concluding 'it's not necessarily better', so vice versa. That's the loophole most of these dermatologists or those who blindly follow them are missing out. In western side, sure it seems to be poorly studied but not in eastern. Both 'more derivative/science' base skincare and 'more natural/raw ingredients' base skincare have pros & cons, period.

I’m actually surprised they call it a toner. I see it as more of an essence. Thanks for the tip on how to apply! I don’t usually do essences but I ordered the Misha essence because my skin has been so dry this winter. I saw it mentioned in a video as a good dupe for the fermented essence from Amore Pacific. It’s pricey but hopefully it will help with dryness. Heavier moisturizers cause break outs for me so this is my game plan.

But I see youtubers who have rosacea and use toner every day. I watch beauty youtubers for makeup! But when it comes to skin products, I prefer to trust a dermatologist. We have to be very careful, youtubers often talk to us about their routine and it's not good for our skin type. There are a few exceptions but in general the recommended products are not very safe!

I'm going to provide another opinion here. I have normal to dry skin ... The other day I rubbed the crap out of my eye because it had gotten irritated. The next a.m. woke up to extremely leathery and dry skin around my eye, skin wasn't moving, deep wrinkles, very scary. Skin had gotten lichenified (like eczema). As I was healing, I noticed that spraying with hydrating and healing toner (I was using ELF toner with oatmeal, aloe, niacinimide) ... The area began plumping and coming back to normal/life. I did add the lotion but the lotion on its own did nothing to help my skin heal. And the skin just kept wanting to drink the toner (spray form). It's now almost back to normal, to my relief, after about 72 hours ... I am SO RELIEVED. I am also now sold on the importance of vegan toners/essences for my dry skin or whenever it's extra dry.

As an esthetician I swear toners are crucial! Also because they balance your skin’s pH and they hydrate the skin and they shrink pores! Especially if they have ingredients in it that close pores (witch hazel for example), or they can have hyaluronic acid in it so that way a toner hydrates your skin. Also make redness less visible, if they are made for sensitive skin they can calm irritation. Idk but toners are great products if they’re done correctly. There are SO many different kinds in the store so be careful! Choose one without alcohol and one that’s suitable for your skin type. Esthetician can help you with that if she has enough knowledge, which many don’t, unfortunately so 😞

I live in Colorado, so I wanted a light moisturizer to layer under my Retin-A to reduce irritation. I've switched to the Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence, and so far it has been working well. I also use the CORSRX Two in One Poreless Power Liquid as an AM toner about three times a week. I apply 3-4 pumps on a cotton pad and gently sweep it over my face. I find it to be less drying than most toners, and it helps to sweep away the flaky skin left behind by the Retin-A.

I was hoping you would do a video on toners and essences! 👍🎈🎊🎉 I'm so RELIEVED you didn't poo poo them, because my older, dehydrated, eczema and dermatitis prone skin ❤❤❤ LOVES them! 😁 I live in a rural area, and our well water is very hard, despite using a water softening system. A guy with a hairy chest once showered here and it looked like someone sprayed his chest white! 🤣
We heat with wood, so it can get really dry, in spite of having humidifiers. Since I started using these 2 extra steps, the number of eczema flare ups I've had have dramatically decreased and I just love how they make my skin feel. I go for products that are hydrating and help strengthen my skin barrier. These are the products I have and repurchased. I don't use them all at the same time, though 😁:
    TONERS:
FIRST AID BEAUTY Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner
YOUVA Balance Canadian Glacial Water Toner
    Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist
    *IT COSMETICS Miracle Water
    ESSENCES:
ROVECTIN Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion
*COSRX Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence
*COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
    * I mix these together and add the IT Cosmetics Miracle Water to thin it out.

    Happy Tuesday Everyone!🌸
I recently incorporated The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% toning solution in my skincare routine. I feel as if it deep cleans my skin after removing makeup and cleansing my skin. I don’t use this everyday but when I do I use cotton rounds for application. I agree with Dr. Dray, you definitely need to follow up with a heavy moisturizer.

For my skin, using a moisturizer only doesn't do anything for my skin. It's still remains dull and dehydrated as if I am not applying anything at all.

I use toner for a couple of reasons and that is
    - If I'm looking for a spesific ingredient, green tea etc
    - I find that the toner stays on my skin longer than water. I don't always get to the moisturizer right out of the shower, so I put on some thicker water/toner before moisturizer
    - I don't put AHA/BHA on wet skin, so after cleansing a use a hydrating toner, let it dry and then chemical exfoliation
    - When my cream isn't thick enought and I need something extra, I'm from rice toner is AMAZING
    I don't use it everyday though :)
