I actually just ran into the crazy stat that Reece James and Pedri have as many games played (112) for their current clubs as each other. You know, ruined by Barca, legs destroyed, three full years younger Pedri. That really puts into perspective how unavailable James has been
Pedri was overused by the national team in his breakout season too (busy season followed by Euros & also the Olympics). Lamine Yamal was well advised to skip the Olympics this year. Reece unfortunately had too heavy a build to be playing as a wing-back.
@@hremostypas ok, I'm going to be that guy, even though I'm almost positive you are joking. But on the off chance you don't know, FM is Football Manager.
When Jose Mourinho said “where he plays, when he plays, if he plays” in his football eritage speech, he didn’t know it at the time, but he was talking about Reese James
I remember a doctor talking about Jozy Altidore having similar issues. He said hamstring injuries can never fully recover to what they were prior. Every injury lowers the threshold the muscle can sustain so it becomes easier to reinjure with every injury. Therefore Reece's hamstring can only sustain like 60% the athletic strain and rigorous activity it once could
@@RubbaDuckie32 Thankfully he's been largely healthy. He only missed two games last year against the Panthers and Buccaneers and we won both. He's well-preserved since he's used in a 50-50 rotation with David Montgomery.
@@mrboast2826still it’s not as many as people make out, out of the thousands every year who are playing. Also, Jack Wilshere is an unfair one, he suffered a broken ankle that kept him out for a while because it wasn’t healing right, then a broken leg, then another break this time his foot, and another broken leg … a lot of his muscular injuries all stemmed from the original ankle break not healing properly so that one I find a bit unfair. Owen Hargreaves suffered from Patellar Tendonitis his whole career, basically fuck all you can do about that either 🤷🏻♂️
Both Chilwell and James went from winning Champions League and being one of the best duos of right/left defenders in the world in 2021 to being basically wrecks that are closer to being out of the club (Ben) or never playing football at satisfying level again (Reece), it's terrible
As a Chelsea fan, this just sucks. I feel so sorry for the bloke, he's one of the best in the world when he's fit, he seems like a decent bloke, and he's unable to do what he's best at through no real fault of his own. I will say that Maresca has been public about wanting to protect Reece, and saying that he's not going to be getting the minutes he probably wants to. Plus with Maresca's affinity for Malo Gusto, I don't think he's forcing James to be fit before he's ready, I think the manager is just fine with Gusto at right back. I think it's just a really bad injury that isn't healing right, those happen sometimes it sucks. What does piss me off is a lot of the fan reaction, every YT thumbnail or post being 'IS REECE JAMES COOKED?1?!' and jumping to us selling him. Like fuck off, he's our boy, he's Chelsea through and through, I want him to recover, I never want to see him in another club's shirt. I want Reece James to retire as a Chelsea player - whenever that is - that's up to him and the doctors. But James is still one of the best when he's fit, we're probably not gonna buy a better right back. We've got Gusto as a backup, Josh Acheampong as a hot prospect, there's no reason to fasttrack replacing Reece James when we have depth in the position, and we're not going to find a upgrade on him. Reece James playing 10 games a season is better than a team that has him playing 0 games a season. Now I think we should do our absolute best to give him all the time to recover, but I really don't like how eager fans seemed to push him out the door when he's an original. I didn't like when the club forced Gallagher out, I don't want another homegrown player gone too. We've got stupid amounts of money, and often spend it stupidly, we can afford to keep James around, even if he's not playing a lot of games.
It was actually the season before last, Chelsea were gonna finish 12th anyway, so there was time for a half-fit Reece to take the end of the season off, have his surgery and take the summer break & start of the next season off. Maybe come back the end of the following season & slowly get phased into the team. But they didnt & he got injured the beginning of last season and was out until this season again (might have exacerbated his injury). He needs a better medical team than the one at Chels & maybe even some Conte-style Lukaku training to get a bit leaner.
You think that's crazy? Joel Embiid just got injured AGAIN! He's already missed the first month of the season, came back a few games and now he's suddenly out again. That's just abnormal.

The problem is the kind of player he is, he is an “explosive” athletic player, and the second their hamstrings go once they’re pretty much fucked from that point onwards. Michael Owen was the same, prior to 1999 he was an absolute phenom! Then in a game against Leeds he tore his hamstring and from that point on was never the same again. Still unbelievable, still scored a lot of goals, but not the same as before, not as explosive as before, and with him I saw an interview where he said it ran in his family and that his dad who had played Semi-Pro I think had suffered with hamstring problems. In one leg he had 3 tendons functioning normally and in the other he only had 2, then after rupturing his hamstring it reattached itself incorrectly and caused further problems. I would not be surprised at all if Reece James is having similar issues, and given how a lot of his game is built around his pace and athleticism he either needs to adapt how he plays or he is basically fucked
