Grover pioneered the way for your top solo sax players of today. I remember when I performed with Grover live at the Jazz workshop in Boston many, many moons ago. At that time he mentioned he never performed with a guitarist but was willing to try it out.. The crowd loved it. He liked the idea so much he subsequently added a rhythm / lead guitar player to his band. I'm grateful glad to have performed with Grover for one full set. We all miss the late great Grover Washington Jr..
this is one of the tightest live performances i have ever seen. and what need be said of the worlds greatest timekeeper...steve gadd. my gadd that was awesome!!!
It´s so amazing listen great musicians like them, What a percusion!, really love this song & version! Masterpiece from Black Power ... It´s so unique !
I have played this song with so many bands, that I vowed to never play it again! However, I shall listen to it forever. My idols are Carter CC Collins (one of the best ever), Armando Peraza, Mongo Santamaria, Francisco Aguabella, and Ralph Macdonald, just to name a few.
Jazz will put you in the great mood and the you're soul will get all the love of music and the sound of quality sound that is for ever and ever easy your mind
After being turned on to the best jazz album ever," Reed Seed" in 1990, I really cant even listen to anything else, as far as contemporary jazz, or lite jazz. That album got in my soul. And were talking about being amidst the golden era of hip hop. Reed Seed was in my regular rotation then and it still is.
His performance of Mr. Magic live at the Biju is probably the finest...the one which has a message from the doctor..Dr. Gibbs..it was on this site...pity it has been removed.
Look at how happy our departed friend is in this video! That's all I want to see -- Grover happy. That is all God wants him to feel. (And who could blame him? He has Eric Gale scratching out the very theme of this song, the very statement that we all identify with this masterpiece! Not to say that Steve Gadd is any less of a MONOLITH on his drums. Not to say that Anthony Jackson isn't considered by most one of the best ever. Not to ignore the UNITY of this performance!)
These are my favorite types of drum solos. Maybe I'm showing my age (50), but I'd rather listen to this than an endless barrage of flurries & riffs between the hands & feet w/no musical form or direction.
grover washington jr has taught me a lot, being with him at his concert, he gave me a lot of saxophone tips
The best line up of best musicians ever.
ONE OF MY FAV DRUMMERS OF ALL TIME, STEVE GADD

Truly "Over The Top" as only Grover could do live...he was a master artist. Thank you for this posting....it doesn't get any better!!!!
Steve Gadd.. the master.. He was quite a prominent studio drummer in the 70´s and early 80´s. I come across so many albums with him doing the drums.
I saw Grover Washington, Jr. perform in Rochester NY years ago, he was awesome, will be greatly missed.
Now this is classic material. RIP Grover.
It´s so amazing listen great musicians like them,

The drums in the beginning literally dropped my jaw. Can't get much funkier than that.
