my wife and i both carry 9mms we each have 200 rounds of hollow point ammo for them plus about 500 rounds of target fmj stuff our 308s e have 400 rounds of softpoint hunting ammo my 7mm rem mag i have 450 round and the stuff to reload that brass 3 times my 30-06 ive got 300 rounds and can reload 400 more rounds my 303 british has a 10 round mag in it and i have 300 rounds of ammo for that 12ga assorted buckshot slugs and bird shot about 500 rounds and then the mighty 22lr we have a bit over 5000 rounds and still stacking ammo and reloading supplies goal is to have 1000 rounds of everything and putting up 10000 22lr i live in the country and lots of rabbits and other small game animals around and still have plenty of deer bear and even have some moose in the area goal would be to try to put up a moose and a few deer in the first few weeks and can up as much as we have room to put up
Ok so military everyone does not carry a side arm and some people use pcc pistol carbine they are great for up to 120 yards and most engagements won't be long distance it Wil be withing 50 yards or less
If it’s like the depression of the 30s, people hunted and trapped all animals. Keep an eye on your cats and dogs. People traded ammo in small amounts, one egg got you one .22 bullet. At the most six or eight shots were traded at one time. Remember shot glass, one bullet, one shot of whiskey. Cash on the barrel head. You know if ammo becomes a form of currency you might want to rethink how you store it. Sort of like how you hide money in your shoe or in the cookie jar. Also, target practice or training will draw attention to you. After a few shots take a walk and come back to it later. I’ll be the guy with the walking stick that has a tent stake tied to it.
Hey the old poking stick will save you plenty of ammo. I agree people would trade ammo for food or the attempt at food but I think people will run out of wild life long before they run out of bullets
@@titanpreparedness Do you know the story of Soviets training with Afghans? The military didn’t feed the troops well so they would trade with the locals for food. When it came to trading ammo for food the Soviet troops would boil the ammo in water before making trade. That way it wouldn’t be used against them.
If anyone needs 100 thousand rounds of ammo, you probably are not going to survive! Maybe if you have a large family or group of people with you. I did 3 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. I just can't see people surviving an SHTF event that will be able to sustain a fight or many fights that takes 100 thousand plus rounds of ammo.
I think you're missing the pretty significant aspect of practice, training, and sighting in your weapons when it comes to your reasoning. 10,000 rounds of 22lr isn't so you can kill 10,000 squirrels. It's so you can teach members of your community how to use a firearm or practicing your own shooting. Same with pistol rounds. Your relatives or neighbors that never thought they'd need a gun are going to need to learn somehow. If you're prepping for yourself--someone who clearly already knows how to shoot--then your needs will be different from someone who is prepping for a community or family.
You are one of the first persons to mention training other individuals. That is a good reason to buy extra ammo I will agree. Hopefully those individuals bring their own weapons and ammo but if training is needed to doesnt hurt to have some spare ammo laying around. Makes sense

I say for your battle rifle it doesn't matter how much ammo you have get a decent amount but well over 200.

My thoughts are very similar. Bring enough ammo to fight with but if you go out looking for a fight it's gonna be a quick road to the ground
