  • I cook lunch on my new GoSun Solar stove! This thing is AMAZING!!
    Please Note: This was one of my first attempts at using a GoSun so I was still learning and yes, it cooks so much faster when oriented correctly...and when there are not as many clouds as there were on this day.

    I have one of these and took it on the road when I drove cross country. I spent a lot of time practicing different recipes and found that all types of meats, vegetables, legumes, grains, and tubers cooked well. It was great not to heat up the house during the summer, and not have to deal with messy grills.
    Including prep and clean-up, meals are done in an hour. It's great for summer meals, camping and travel. The best part is that there is no fire or coals to douse.

    This whole concept is amazing. I'm saving up to purchase the larger model, I'm hoping they can get production costs lower so it can be more affordable. This is ideal for hanging out at the beach and not having to deal with the wind and getting a fire started, or camping/hunting trips. The idea of getting this product into third world countries where fuel is scarce is awesome.

    Yes, you can cook quicker with a conventional barbeque or campfire, but it seems the point is lost that with the GoSun Solar stove its efficiency is found in the fact that it needs NO gas,charcoal or wood for fuel. It may be slower, but in a situation where fuel is either scarce or non existent this stove can be very handy.

      the5thprofession sun is a fuel too though... so my problem with this thing is it’s only optional. If the sun is barely hot enough or behind clouds, it’s useless. Good for the south. Not so good for up here in Canada or Britain.

    • @snakesteve68
      @snakesteve68  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@azazelone905 Yes, but solar fuel is free and energy secure, you do not need to tote all that dangerous fuel around with you, and unlike toxic fossil fuels, it has no dangerous fumes/emissions (not counting sunburn/eye damage - but common sense covers those for you). I suppose its only real drawback comes at night. That is where the Fusion and other renewable energy powered stoves come in: th-cam.com/video/XV6YW-7dzZw/w-d-xo.html

    Check out a school in Leh in Ladakh, where they use mirrors to catch the sunlight outside the building beaming the rays into the cooker, and they cook huge meals for all the school from this. Also, I saw a guy that uses an old parabole dish plastered with small mirrors, and in the middle, he hangs a tea kettle. It worked splendidly.

    The Rand Solar oven is $70 on Amazon (and has a larger diameter). You can buy a tray for it on eBay for $45. Build your own stand/reflector. Less than half the cost vs the GoSun and larger cylinder for cooking.

      The reflectors are always in focus, so a few degrees off is no problem. With that said, we have a sun dial in development from the GoSun Grill to be added to the Sport in the coming months. :)

    • @MrInvisibleFist
      @MrInvisibleFist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A sun-dial is just a shadow, you can see the shadow cast from the pot plants on the table, the go-sun should be orientated the same way as the shadows fall to increase thermal uptake. More heat, faster cooking time.
      So in this case the go-sun was incorrectly oriented.

      Its ok to boil hot water without any Aluminum foil cardbox.

      To be honest(after using the GoSun Pro for 4 months),there are a lot of things to be considered(Weather,sunlight angle,food's components......etc).

      I realize this post is 2 years old now, but they are working on a version that can be powered with a small battery called the Gosun Fusion. They claim it uses about as much power as a 100 watt light bulb for those cloudy days, or night cooking. You can also get a small battery pack and portable solar panels to charge up the battery during the day.

    10:54 2 hours 5 minutes in total from fridge temperature to done cooked. This could be pretty nice if you can fit a ~90 minute activity into your schedule and return for a set table and ready meal.
    12:33 25 minutes to bake home made cookies from (presumably) room temp to ready. That's a success to me. I might experiment with my batter.
    I can totally dig this given you can do it anywhere and it costs $0.

      From what I've read, on Amazon, you don't have to watch it while it cooks, or even be there when it's done; it never burns the food, is what I've read. So while you might not want to cook for 12 hours, and have it overcooked, setting it out in full sun, and returning in 3 to 4 hours shouldn't ruin it. It does appear like a slow cooker, and function similarly--in the effect, not the method--in that when I do slow cooking, I can cook a roast for 5 hours, perhaps, or 8,9 or 10 hours, and it doesn't really hurt much, or destroy the food. Regards.

    Is there a thermometer integrated into the design so you can see the tube's temperature? How do you clean it?

    • @snakesteve68
      @snakesteve68  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No thermometer but a great idea for sure. This is why I use the infrared unit but it is not required. I just wanted to show the viewer that it does indeed get hot inside the stove. For cleaning the tray it is stainless so very easy - just hot soapy water. For the tube it comes with a circular pad you can mount on the end of the tube that you then insert into the tube (after it has cooled down) to clean off all the gunk...but my stove has not needed to be cleaned yet even though I use it a lot.

    It looks like a vacuum tube but its not, so what i am saying it should be. With being forced to use a tube, why not pull a vacuum on it, now thats science too. lol With no air in the tube the food will get hotter faster, and stay hot longer. That little pull out tray should have a class covering for reasons, one it will prevent splashes from food spraying on the solar tube, and with a seal you can pull the vacuum between the cooking tray chamber, and the solar chamber.
    I am not sure what it would be like if we pulled a vacuum in the chamber with the food in the same vacuum, how it will turn out sucking all the air out of the food. Could try it both ways, one way with sealed chambers, the inner chamber holds the food, one inside the other with a vacuum between the 2, and try it the other way with only one chamber, with only a tray and splash guard, and pull a vacuum on the food itself.

      But depending on your routine, I'd argue this could be an advantage. I love throwing the chicken in the oven and go for a jog or cross country. I'm pretty hungry by the time I get home. I'm all in for a slow cook.

    the largest profit margins is apparently this companys goal, you can purchase these same kind of vaccume tube solar cookers over seas for 1/4 of the price. To bad they dont sell for a modest profit margine, it would be much more popular here is the states and greatly impact the enviorment positivly, shame profit seems to be the bigest drive for this company

    For a sunny island like Haiti these could potentially cut out the destruction caused by the charcoal business.
    The deforestation is alarming.
    Haiti has the last little bit of coastal rainforest in the Caribbean.
    They are expensive and not a familiar item.
    BUT a charity could subsidise gosuns?
    The smoke from indoor charcoal cooking fires is obviously dangerous to the lungs.
    Does gosun do any charity work?
    In terms of botanical conservation and public health it's a no brainer.
    Is there a cultural resistance to a new way of cooking I wonder.
    It's always sunny in HAITI that's a fact !

    Hey man next time let your food come up to room temp before you place in oven and it wont take one hour plus to cook vegetables that only take 5 -7 mins in a skillet, and btw those rinky dink cages you put around tomato plants are going to keep your plants short, when you can tie your tomatoes to a tressel that is 6 ft plus and have tomato plants over 8 ft tall with a higher yield of course. But you seem into taking forever to do simple things, cool man.
