Why are you using a metal pot? All that metal causes a lot of heat loss. Just use a glass casserole pot which allows all the sun rays through.

what temperature does it cook at? You mentioned dehydrating herbs and making yogurt. but a chicken has to be cooked at a higher temperature and sustained for a long period of time

How about a more QUANTITATIVE comparison.. and have the other models there .. I think this one looks very flimsy and if you had to use it full time it might not last a number of years.. How about comparing temps and comparative cooking times and size of pots - volume of food they accommodate one model from another and prices .. There are set up variables as well .. this one looks like a wind can put your dinner on the ground pretty easily.. Try are more Consumer Report type information session .. that compares all variables .. yet you are trying to help.. its a start

    • @WayBackWhenWe
      @WayBackWhenWe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

alfriedar ... I can assure you there is nothing flimsy about the All Season solar cooker, it is very rugged very strong very sturdy. It is intentionally designed to be thin lightweight and easily movable and collapsible. Additionally it is designed so that the panels move as the sun moves through the sky you just simply push the panel's a certain direction and it adjusts . You can't do this with any other type of solar cooker on the market. And when you're finished with it You can just fold it up and put it away. It's held together with a couple of bolts which you don't have to use actually. You can just use clothes pins. It's perfect because it's not big and clunky like all the other ones. Mine is folded up behind my bedroom door.

Years ago on a 4th of July when it was well over 100 degrees, I just felt like I could not cook in the house because I did not want to add more heat to the house. So I talked my husband and his friend into building a solar oven. They built it outside in that terrible heat (I was out there with them supervising!). What a loyal husband! I have used it many times. I usually use it when it is too hot to cook inside. It is great!

I remember years ago (somewhere around the late 1960's), reading a book which I had checked out of the local library, which had complete "DIY" plans (including actual dimensions) to make a solar oven out of sheet metal. - The oven box itself when built, was around 14"(width (front to back)) X 15" (in length) X 12" (in height). - It (the box), was painted inside and out with a high temp flat black engine paint that would withstand temps of around 500 degrees F. - It had a 1/4 inch glass plate installed into the panel on top. It had a hinged metal door in the front side (just like a real oven). - It had 3 or 4 folding sheet metal panels which were highly polished (towards the box side), attached with hinges around the top edges which could be positioned towards the sun to direct the sunlight down through the glass top into the oven box and onto the pan, skillet, etc. which was placed inside with food. - I remember that it had small vent slots (cut into the metal) to keep the inside pressure (due to excessive heat), stable to keep it from cracking the glass top (but after all these years, I can't remember where they were positioned at (but I think they were on at least 3 of the sides)). - The reason I mention this is because I have yet to see a solar oven made from metal, which would stand up to rough abuse (out in the outdoors camping world), which would last for any length of time. - Most of them for sale on the commercial market now-a-days are usually flimsily (and cheaply) made out of cardboard, which probably wouldn't last for more than a few uses. - Oh well, so much for the (supposed), "cheaper the better, and throw-away", modern technology. - Anyway, there are the basic dimensions, if somebody decided they wanted to try and build one for their own use. - I take no responsibility for any burned fingers, or other personal injury's (if incurred), in the building, or the use, of such a device. - P.S. The author who had built it himself, said it worked quite well, and a lot better than he expected, and it did stand up for many years of use, and abuse.

Most of everyone who owns and cooks with a solar cooker use them on the road. Limited space, portability, and storage is what sells these things.

What too many overlook is the other possible applications.....Sure its good for an oven... but they can also be used as a hot water heater.. That oven gets up to 350 degrees internally if allowed to do so.. What about making a coil within the oven that could pass water through it??? And with enough ingenuity make it easily removable with a valve???

I have the newest model of The ASSC. Love it. I live in the desert so I use solar cooking almost exclusively. I have a Sun Oven, A UGLI Hybrid, and two big ones that I made out of stainless steel cooler cabinets. I really love the ASSC though simply because its so portable, and because I am up before dawn and outside (am a farmer) - I can start the ASSC as soon as the beautiful sun peeks over the horizon. If you put a paver stone under the trivet, it won't blow away.

Mine works great. My compliant with it is cheap screws that rust, aligners glued to glass pop off, thermometer broke a month old.
For a few extra bucks that oven would be bulletproof, don't know why they skimp, but whatever.

This channel is an infomercial to sell sell sell.
In 6 years, you never used your solar cooker again. And the reason is it horrible. I bought the All Season Solar cooker because of this video. I totally believe in saving the environment and solar cooking is just one aspect of my personal commitment in being a responsible caretaker of the earth. So this video made me particularly mad. This solar cooker does not work - no more than any other solar cooker. This is the ultimate con - An infomercial calling other channels infomercials! I thought I could trust this channel because of the line "TIRED OF THE OTHER INFOMERCIALS???" Can't trust any TH-camr now-a-days.
Anyway, I've bought five solar cookers and made 2 DIY units and this is what I know about solar.
    The Real Truth:
No solar cooker works like the kitchen stove, not even a little close. The problem is power and heat distribution. I'd say you get roughly a max of 100watts per square foot of sunlight. That means to have the same power as a 1600W electric stove, You need a cooker with reflectors 4ftx4ft square. Because of this most solar cookers are very under powered and resemble 300W slow cookers or crock pots. The most powerful cookers are the parabolic but they have serious hot spot issues. Very hard to cook because things tend to burn. Also, a lot of the companies and models that you see videos are gone. A good example is a large vacuum tube to make a solar cooker. At one time you could get one for under $100 then build the body and reflectors yourself but they are not for sale anymore. Another example is the Sport Solar oven, out of stock for years. It looks like the future of solar cooking is solar panels powering an induction stove. India is leading the way and I hope it comes to USA. This allows the solar panels to be placed away from the cooker and cooker can be indoors, no need to cook outside and constantly readjust towards the sun.
This channel is an infomercial to sell sell sell. I hope my real experience helps.

It is so wonderful when I can come across the rare REAL talks about items. I value honest info so much, especially in this day and age where information can be driven more by personal interests (money gain, making connections, etc) than by a real interest to provide the truth. I have thought about solar ovens, both for home use and for camping, so this is good to know. Especially since any camping use would require something that could take a bit of a beating and still do it's job!

I just subscribed to you channel. I just found you channel. I ordered a solar over 2 or 3 years ago and have cooked in it several times. I retired 5 years ago and was looking for way to get buy incase everything went down. I have cooked all kinds of thing in it. I made video on some of it. Mine is a metal box with a glass top. I love the way it cooks. The only thing i don't have is a way to heat my house incase if the power goes out. I could get a kersine heater and buy kersine for it. I use to have one and heated my mobil home when my children were growing up. I don't have one now. I have stock up on freeze dried food. I live in town and my yard is clay so there isw no way I could put in a graden. I hope you and you family have a Happy and safe New Year. Be blessed. Thank you so much for sharing.

Great video. Thank you. I'm not a prepper or off the grid or anything.. I live in a major city actually... But I just thought the idea of a solar cooker was brilliant, and I figured it could come in handy in case of an emergency, like a hurricane, or a power outage. I think everybody has experienced a power outage in their life. And I just happened to have picked the all season solar cooker like the one you're showing in the video. So God brought me to the right one! And I'm glad you created this video to explain the differences between them, because I have seen all of those different solar cookers and I didn't know which one was the best. The main reason why I went with the all season was mostly because of the fact that it can use sunlight from sunrise to sunset whereas most other cookers it's mostly only in the middle of the day that you can use it. And I've still never used my cooker! I thought about cooking a chicken or or something, like I saw someone do online, I start to check it out because I'm afraid I'm going to spend money on the food and do the preparation and everything and then screw it up somehow. But now that the hurricane is about to plow through America I may end up needing to use it sooner than I thought. So thanks for the video much appreciated.

I do NOT like being negative...
    However
This wasteful 10 mins, which in video title, thumbnail text, and tone of voice during presentation, gave every appearance of a thumbs down review of solar cookers. Very very confusing since everything you said was a pro, not a con, and then at the end you finally say you like it even though still using what sounds like a sarcastic irritated tone. I'm actually still not completely sure if you like it. Not only was it confusing, all 10 mins could have been summed up with: of the available types of soar cookers, the _____ fits our needs best. It's robust to the elements, large enough for a turkey, and has successfully cooked everything I want from _____ to _____, Thanks.
10 mins could have been 15 seconds........................................................................... 😒

And...cannot believe this...but I looked the whole video(I am drunk right now by the way).

So I don’t know since this video was made I think there is been quite a bit more solar ovens. The design does not look complex at all. You can make your own. I have an American Sun oven. You can cook your around all day in it as long as it’s in the sun. So that would be three meals a day. The only inconvenience I have is I would have to cook in my front yard to make breakfast. For now I don’t feel like making breakfast in it anyways so not a big deal.

Grab a small piece of steel (thicker the better) or even just a frying pan that will transfer heat and then a magnifying glass... I'd like to see someone give it a try, or try it myself. Just setup the magnifying glass in the right spot and amplify the sunlight into a ridiculously hot cooking surface!!!

Now a days who has enough time for wasting? Produce 2Kw of electricity using solar panel set up and run an induction cooktop using this electricity. It would be very fast and convenient than those useless, time wasting 'toy' type solar cooker.

1st Thessalonians 5:3 When they say peace and Safety then comes sudden destruction and none shall escape. No running water electricity or cars. You should start watching youtube videos on fish traps and other survival videos.

Nobody wants that tiny plastic thing. I'm building a real solar oven, with stainless steel, and that thing you are promoting is a toy cooker. Thumbs down.

Know that the Go Sun cooks 4 times faster which means 4 times bigger. It needs less sun and is a more advanced technology over other solar cookers. You might want to use one before you are so quick to compare. Really it’s a great overall solar cooker for a homesteader!

We just baked bread in our today, and it browned too. Awesome it's not as good as a conventional oven, but it a great back up, and a way to save on electricity. That alone is worth it.

Do you need a trivet, it looks like you don't have it on a trivet. On Amazon it seems to instruct.. that you put your pan inside a glass bowl. you don't have your in a glass bowl. So what's the real story on what else you need to cook in this

Trying to look like a hippy but she's not really an off gridder. If she was, those solar panels leaned against the wall behind her would have been put in a much better position.

Very biased - your can't honestly compare solar cookers if you only have one type of solar cookers 👎👎👎
