What beautiful creatures these wild fish are. I use to fish and hunt but gave all that up years ago after I took up diving. These films reinforce my decision.
Certainly one of the best videos i have seen. I used to fish and shoot but don't anymore. Gave it up about 15 years ago. Who in their right mind would want to catch these beautiful creatures and drag them out of their own environment?
i think that underwater videos like this are great, because we can find out more about behavior of some species of fish on fed position and it is nice to watch
do you think that wary and pressured barbel would react the same way ? john wilson on a pressured river said they do react sociably even being able to cradle one in his arms ?
That's very important knowledge for fly fishermen, who use Czech nymphing method and want to catch particular species on purpose. Barbels are bottom feeders, they dig the gravel with their noses, occasionally taking inedible items and throw it away. They more rely to the sense than sight. Trout are visual feeders, and they more keen to grab food in the water column, not on the bottom. Probably that's why , when im fishing euro nymphing setup with 2 nymps, 70-80% of my trout caught on the fly on the dropper, which swims 30-40 cm above the bottom.
This is soooo wild! Are the fish conditioned to come up to the diver? i can maybe see the carp coming up, but seeing the trout come up, unafraid....incredible!
fishing actually helps fish and society. The river authorities make sure that rivers are kept clean so all fish species thrive due to anglers money. Nothing better than hooking into a nice big barbel. I care for the fish too but love catching them.
yes, that is true but if you make sudden move they will swim away and if you are on the coast for them is enough to see your shadow and they will ecape
Can you please tell my what is the best food for barbel. Thank's i love to fish them catch and relase,in my country we use worms, bread, chease(very god),and water grass. If you have some better baits please tell me. Thanks :)
Maybe it will sound silly try to feed Barbel with chese,in our country we catch brabel with chese. chese must be that kind like edamer, yellow kind of chese not very hard.Cut litle cubes the size of 0,5cm or 1cm. Small cubes, the barbel loves it,barbel and chub,i even cought few trouht with cheese.(im not very good with english i hope u understod me good luck)
yes i think they would, they would probably spook at the sound of a lead or feeder hitting the water but would tolerate a diver in the swim as they have no reason to associate this with danger ?
Where was this filmed please Stu? I assume it wasn't this country (UK), 'cause there are so many fish - unless you were luring them in with freebies for weeks on end!

super video, komisch dass nur Regenbogenforellen zu sehen waren und keine einzige Bachforelle? welcher Fluss is das?
hi. would like to know what you were feeding please. awesome vid
Note the trout are quick to take in midwater but barbel mainly off the bottom
Excellent video, wish I could get them to feed like this in my swim!
huh, that's a lot of dinner! fun to watch, and well filmed.
In England we use Elips pellets (best) or Halibut pellets, very good bait for barbel. Type Hinders in google to source them
Awesome!!!
This is pretty cool. Wow, what river was this filmed in?
amazing footage
Amazing footage!
Tom
3:53 is like my favorite pet fish :-)

Which Austrian Stream?
i guess its not in the UK , reminds me of the Dordogne river in France
Rainbow trout in Austrian river, seems not so native. However exceptional video. Great.
Amazing WOW

This video was from a friend, its not the uk, sweden i think.
that was amazing.
well done mate
i love catching barbale
That's a pretty cool vid.
brilliant!
very nice
Fantastic visability.
@Stubarbel most fish are not scared of you when your in the water with them, especially if your feeding them.
4 people who thumbed down, must be blind and hit it by an accident.
so cool dude
nice trout
Nice...
damn man. You got a huge school going.
they are like a small cats :D
fish are more alarmed by things moving above the surface than below where they are quite unafraid..more afraid of the unseen threat....
These guys only tried this twice before filming them.
barbel...pardon me. I stand corrected. Are barbel related to carp? Obviously both are bottom feeders.
Yes, barbel (Barbus barbus) are in the carp family (Cyprinids).
In france cheese is to no. 1 bait
In Serbia cheese for barbel is no. 1 bait
Perhaps I should get in the river and present my bait by hand rather than on a hook!!!
they let you pet them, that's great haha
Fuck yea Trout rule over Barbel
They are not, should be browns. Oh well, great video and experience none the less
impossible
