- Today I am demonstrating How to Tie Dye my 16 Point Doodle Mandala Tapestry. This is my very own creation that I wanted to try out and I couldn't be happier with the results. This is a complete step by step tutorial video for anyone who is interested in trying to make this 16 point mandala tapestry for themselves.
I have also received a lot of questions and comments about people having trouble finding the center of the tapestry and ending up with two sides of a mandala in their finished product. So in this video I have taken the liberty of going into detail to show you how to ALWAYS find your center.

This is so beautiful!! When you leave it for 24 hours before you rinse it do you keep it wet in plastic or dry?
Also, where do you live? The question is for humidity control.
I actually just keep it out on my racks that I dye them on but when I dye them I use urea which is a chemical that keeps the dye moist longer so it doesn’t dry out. I live in upstate New York ☺️💜

Hi! And welcome!!! Thank you so much! You can use anything darker than the fabric ☺️ or you can try reverse dye with bleach if you want to use any lighter colors ☺️

Is there an alternate material that you can use for a tapestry? I have some I bought with band stuff on them and they're a silk material not a cotton material
Silk is a natural fabric so it can be Tie dyed but I actually prefer cotton. Any natural fabric will accept the dye though😊
Also if it's not a natural material there is specific dye for that.. I just can't remember the name.
Yeah they make a rit for synthetics and I believe dharma trading company has a few different dyes for synthetics as well.
This is BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you!! I'm totally going to try this with different shades of blue to make a snowflake :)) Do you think it would bleed too much if it were ice dye or hot water irrigation?
also re: blank tapestry sources - I got a bunch of 100% cotton muslin from my local fabric store and just cut it with fabric scissors - you can customize the size that way too and it's much cheaper! :))

I think with HWI it would definitely bleed to much due to the spraying, as far as Ice dye I think there will be some color spreading but if you use a limited amount of ice it is definitely possible. I would love to see how it turns out and what an awesome idea for the snowflake. Thank you so much for the info. I have tried that and I do it sometimes for my own but I usually like to have the hanging loops for customer orders so they can hang them on the wall. Honestly I need to just learn to sew them on but it seems like a lot of extra work. Lol.
Did you thicken your dye for this
For this one I didn’t but for detailed projects I definitely do. I soaked in dawn and hot water for a half hour for about 3 separate times to keep the white white and that worked well😊
How hard would it be to do a fire and ice Ying yang mendala
