I had the component video for Gamecube and looked at lot better than tue quality you are showing, clearly the example your are playing in Gamecube is using the composite video cables
Nope, this is RGB SCART & you are seeing at 480i passthrough mode (turns out later I found out the Gamecube had a flicker filter enabled by default in some games, making the image look blurrier than it should) also bear in mind that Component unlocks 480p in some games so yes it will look sharper than RGB SCART :)
I think emulation looks better with default original resolution values and then just bilinearly upscaled. These games are not meant to run at 4k and these textures were never meant to be scared with integer sharpness
This is why I love showing people what happens when you push the graphics in emulation but, I think the issue here was the MSAA setting but, you can change it to how you please :)
A personal suggestion is to use higher resolutions (1440P+) OR anti-aliasing, but not both unless you limit the resolution to 1080P maximum. I find some games end up with an "oil paint" smeary look to them and some pixelation which is really hideous at times.
Ultimately I wanted the graphics to be as sharp as possible but, I guess you learn and I know possibly the MSAA was the problem :) Still, this is why I make these videos, makes it so next time I try out dolphin I can try different settings :)
It should be said that 99% of all GameCube games on og hardware can be forced into 480p via Swiss homebrew. And yes, that is PAL games too, even games like Luigi's Mansion can be 60hz and progressive scan, even though the game doesn't ask for 60hz on boot up.
If I were to play a game it'd be on original hardware pretty much always, if I am feeling lazy or not wanting to bust out the Nintendo Gamecube, then I'd use Dolphin emulator for sure. Which one is better, I personally think both are good in their own unique ways and it's difficult for me to pick the better one, emulating stuff is very conveniant but when it comes to quality and authentic visuals original hardware never fails. Emulators these days however are quite good at emulating visuals just the way you want them to be like, that makes it a difficult question to say which one is better. But I'd still pick original hardware over emulation simply due to the nostalgia factor alone, but other people may have different opinion about this and that's fine. I like that people play games in their own unique ways and that's amazing. We all should cherrish that we even got games to begin with, lol. 🐱
I love both emulation and real hardware & while both have their pros and cons, both are worth it for different reasons :D No matter what I love the fact that we have great choices in 2024!
Try running some of these with the Reshader app adding scanlines. I'm curious how much of the pixelated elements would look better with some scalines, or CRT softening applied.
Admittedly I'm the wrong person for this as I really do not know much about what looks correct with scanlines or CRT filters. A lot of people are critical when people try to use them properly! I recommend you experiment with the emulator as I do not want to do a poor job of showing this off xD
3D games look great at 4k. It's what you would have expected if these games had pc port back in the day [we were already pushing Hd resolutions like 1024x768 or 1280x1024 which looked nice and sharp].
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial I personally still prefer higher resolution even if the textures aren't that high res. That's how I've been playing games on my pc since early 2000s anyways and prefer the crisp look.
Any idea why the models for Soul Calibur look squished while the backgrounds seem to maintain the same aspect ratio? I didn't notice it on the other games showcased.
It could be my MacBook, the screen on it is 16:10 whereas this game is 16:9, resulting in a squished look :) I perhaps should have corrected it in editing next time xD
I ripped Conduit 2 and couldn't play it for years until I found out 50% emulated cpu clock speed gives 100% emulation speed. I would've hated on the game when it came out and been all over Halo Reach but now I appreciate the hell outta the Wii pointer. It isn't the best control method, just fun as hell. Well, it actually is the best if you're playing an arcade shooter like HOTD.
This can be fixed/changed as there's many aspect ratio options to suit your display or the game in Dolphin if you don't like the generic 16:9/4:3 options :)
I liked the comparisons but I would have liked more commentary over the games. If it's just comparison video of the games I'll probably just skip to the games I want to see in the future, but with a bit of commentary I'd be likely to watch everything.
The reason I do it this way is so I can fit in as much games as possible :) If I spoke about every game, the video would take ages to make & by the time you get to the sixth or seventh comparison, the audience generally has seen and heard everything they need to know :) It also allows me to show off the sound comparisons so people get a sense of the audio quality differences while allowing themselves to decide which platform is best for them :) Hope this helps!
It might be the nearest neighbour texture filtering or the 2x MSAA anti aliasing or the 4K resolution but, either way I do say many times the settings can be changes and bilinear filtering might be a better bet for most 3D titles for the Gamecube :)
It is why in most of the games I suggested bilinear filtering if the sharp look is not for the viewer and I feel bilinear is better in most 3D games :)
I haven't looked at the Dolphin emulator so.... Here it is! Enjoy!

You can download some textures patchs to improve it
If you haven't already, you should make a video discussing the uses of hd / custom textures and what a difference it makes with emulators and games
I made a video many years ago showing off Resident Evil 2 & 3 Seamless HD mods against real hardware :)

Yes, this is true & this Gamecube had these mods, I just don't have component cables to take advantage of 480p :)

They usually do benefit but it depends on the texture quality among other aspects :)

I prefer the crisp look too & I probably would do the same, especially with our high res displays of the current times!
The pre-rendered objects and backgrounds in the RE Remake look better in their native 480i resolution. scaling them up makes them look more pixelated
Sadly this is the issue with anything pre-rendered, the second you try to upscale them in emulation, they fall apart & this is normal :)

This is the beauty of both emulation and the ability to use a controller you like :)
beach spikers is amazing on dolphin in 4k
Oooooo may have to check it out!
I don't like how the Dolphin ones look stretched.

It's interesting that some games run at 8:7 on GC
Goes to show how much we still have to learn before we can really truly replicate real hardware :)

Paper Mario in 4k it's similar to "new" Paper Mario for Switch.
It does & the artwork has aged very well indeed :)
Song?
Which one? Use a timestamp :)
Sir I think you might have configured the emulator a bit wrong the textures are not meant to be this blocky
It might be the nearest neighbour texture filtering or the 2x MSAA anti aliasing or the 4K resolution but, either way I do say many times the settings can be changes and bilinear filtering might be a better bet for most 3D titles for the Gamecube :)

Rogue squadron II have many issues on dolphin 😔.
it depends on your hardware and the settings you use :)
This video was made last year so the emulator might have seen improvements since then :)
Shina enjoyer? Nice.
I like my variety in these emulation vs real hardware videos :)
