      Yet Neil lived a full life. This song mourns those that didn't because of a virus, or because of a noble choice of a lady to defend a gay from a mob. Heroes that get no recognition. True good is rarely, if ever, celebrated. We celebrate the illusion of good. We celebrate what sells.

    I don't understand all the discussion about the 1st verse being out of place with the rest of the song? To me it fits perfectly. The song compares the common people who have a true impact on our lives to what society defines as "heros". The lyrics seem just fine to me.

    This song reminds me of my cousin who struggled with mental illness and addiction. People like him are demonized for problems that they struggle to control. I believe that people who battle addiction are heroes in their own right just by trying their best to change and live a better life even when they don't have the strength or support to do it. To anyone who is dealing with the same problems as he did, just know that you are a hero and you can and will defeat the demons that plague you. You can do it.

      Whenever I hear the song “Nobody’s Hero,” and that 2nd stanza starts “I didn’t know the girl, but I knew her family” - I wonder if Neil was referencing the murder of a girl from his hometown of St. Catherine’s named Kristen French … who was abducted and murdered by two individuals while she was on her way home from school around ‘92 - Counterparts came out right after … That crime became known as the “Ken and Barbie” killings

    • @AlexColberg
      @AlexColberg 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Very interesting what you wrote. I haven't seen the comments on here I assume you are referring to, but Rush often likes to mix it up musically and sometimes lyrically, and it could feel incongruous or disjointed to some. It;s sophisticated music, and they don't just slap it on the canvas. But even if they did, so what...as long as it works. Rush works at a deep level for me...I get them, I think. But I can also understand how some could find fault in certain ways. Rush rarely writes that tight song that's so tight it's like a perfect rhyme...but songs can be landscapes too. It's so hard to write about Rush...as Gene Simmons summed up, what kind of music is Rush? It's Rush.

    I love, love, LOVE this song. It humanizes everyday people, just trying to live their lives. People who you pass on the street, homeless perhaps, with no care. Everybody has struggles and lives to survive, but who cares about the people who are downtrodden and homeless? Nobody. They’re “nobody’s hero”. Great song and always relevant.

    This song just cements Neil Peart's membership in the songwriters HOF. I know Neil was a shy and private person, but I wish I could have sat in a small bar and had a couple beers or coffee with him and gone for a bike ride, and just talked about philosophy and life. I think he would have been fun to just shoot the shit with. RIP, Professor.

    I wonder, has any Rush fan or Rush lover ever mentioned "Owl City" before in the comments on any Rush video before? He was my favorite electronic artist of this current decade (and late 2000's), and (don't worry) I still love Rush too.
