      If heard that older pairs last forever and newer pairs break fast, and that's been my personal experience so far! I have a pair from 10 years ago that look almost new even though I've worn them a ton. Guy at my local Docs store even asked where I got them because he thought they were cool, and I had to tell him they were long gone (they have giant gold stars up the sides and gold trim). The soles are in great condition too. I bought a pair of platform Docs less than a year ago, and about 8-9 months in a deep crack had somehow formed halfway up in the middle of the platform...under the arch of the sole. And it goes in deep, too...2.25 inches in...I measured it out of curiosity, right before trying to use Shoe Goo to glue them back together...I stuck a butter knife in because it's thin and long and wouldn't cause further damage. 8-9 months vs 10+ years is such a huge difference! I'm shook...and they don't offer lifetime warranties anymore from what I saw online. And it's too much a pain to go all the way to the official store to ask what my options are...and I'd probably have to pay for a repair and the glue was like $10 so I'm crossing my fingers lol

    You need to wear two pairs of socks when you get them and be warned only ware them around the house for an hour or two when you first get them.
    After that progress slowly when you get them creased up and the leather is softened your good to go. It takes time to work them in great boots, soft ,comfortable and will last year's.

    I got my first pair of Docs as a reward to myself for making it through my first holiday week as a cashier without crying or having a panic attack or a nervous breakdown. It took a week of constant wear to break them in, and now that they are they are by far the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. The air cushioned soles are a godsend for working 7 to 8 hours on my feet. I have a tendency to put my weight on my heels when standing for long periods of time, and they're the only pair of shoes I wear where my heels aren't sore by the end of the day. Not only that, but they're great winter boots as well. I wore them out walking around town in snow and ice and they kept my feet warm and dry and I didn't have any trouble keeping my footing at all.

    Dr Martens NEED to be broken in, many people buy them and end up thinking they're terrible shoes. Don't give up. Once you break them in they are the most comfortable boots that last for a really long time. I know people who have had the same pair for 20+ years with almost every day wear.
    I love mine and I seriously wear them all the time. I wear a size 10 women's and I get a 9. I think the US women's size is off. So I always buy shoes in men's, which I wear an 8.

I work in a shoe store that sells docs and the uk to north american sizing conversion for women in doc martins is only 2 sizes different (for example, a UK 5 = US 7), but in most other brands of shoes and boots the conversion is 3 sizes different (so a UK 5 is usually about a US women’s size 8).

    Dr Martens are great boots. As far as I know, they're all still completely handmade (with machine assistance) in England.
    These boots were designed for industrial workers who are always on their feet. I'm an industrial worker myself, and actually have my Docs on right now, while on break at my factory job. Lol.
    With the design intent in mind, they run large because roomy boots are more comfortable after long wear. Tight fitting athletic shoes can cause blistering on the sides of your feet after consecutive 12 and 16 hour shifts. Docs are very unlikely to do that because of the amount of space they incorporate. My size 12s (US, male) fit more like 12.5's, or maybe 12 wides. This might throw off first time buyers.
    The soles are a soft rubber (pvc, I think) and gives your step a little bounce. This is to help ease pain from standing on hard wood or concrete shop floors. I say they work very well. These boots are easy to stand in for long events, like music festivals and things like that.
    The inside heel of the boots, in my experience, can be a bit rough until they're broken in. The entire sole is flat, so until it begins to take the shape of your foot a little bit and round out, it can be weird. Almost like the impact from walking is more pronounced at your heel. Once they break in, though, this stops and they're very comfortable.
    Great video, by the way.

      They don't make them in England anymore. I think they have one style that is still made in England but the overall quality of the shoe has gone down. Name brand Doc's don't last as long as they use to and it's really hard to find old school Doc Martins that do last along time.

    • @steinistein8611
      @steinistein8611 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, do you have any tips on how to make the heel less painful?
      I bought a pair a couple years back. They weren't my first pair of leather boots so I knew how to break them in.
      But the heel didn't budge. I think my pair was just poorly made tbh because after two years of wearing them they still rubbed my heels raw, until I was bleeding, even with two pairs of socks.
      Did I just have bad luck or is that normal?

I had a pair of red and black marbled Docs I got when I was 16, wore them for many years and finally had to get a new pair in 2013, 14? My husband got me the Hieronymus Bosch Garden of Earthly delights Docs! I love them so much! I rarely wear them but wearing them in that slow way for 7 years has broken them in nicely. Mine are like yours too, that stiff leather, not the soft. And I have foot problems too. I wore bandaids on the back of my heels, with an ankle sock and then a thicker sock over that. That is how I broke them in and they are super comfy now.

    The first time I got doc martens, I bought them in France. I wore them for a walk up the road and ended up walking home in bloody socks, boots in hand. My issues were on the foot, not the ankle. For 2 weeks I wore them at home only when I was sitting down and let them mold to my feet. Then for a week I wore them at home while I moved around to do errands. After they broke in they were incredibly comfortable. I wore them nearly daily and walked at least 5 miles in them and it took about 5 years to wear them down.

    i live by sf and they have a dr.marten store. i tried on a pair of size 5 women’s holly platforms, and i wear a size 7. preferably, i would i have wanted to purchase a 5.5 but because they don’t carry half sizes, i’d recommend rounding off to the bigger side. also, platforms are way heavier than you’d expect

  • @punxie89
    @punxie89 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have half size feet, and my first pair was said online to run small so I got a 9. But they ended up being true to size, so a bit too big for my 8.5 feet. I've had them for 10 years so far and have worn them a ton and still have not broken them in lol. Because of the half size of space at the back, the leather creased/bent right at the back of my foot and it still rubs me raw and makes me bleed if I don't wear thick socks and wear them untied (I tied the bottom half of the laces tightly, but leave the top half loose and untied, so they stay on my feet but are loose at the back to stop the rubbing). I recently bought a pair of the vegan platforms, and I had zero breaking in needed. Those ones ran big, so I got a size 8 and they fit my 8.5 feet perfectly. Almost too tight at first, but even though they're fake leather they seem to have stretched out enough that they're not too hard on my foot anymore.

    I have wide-ish feet and had to size up to an 8, I'm normally a 7.5. The size 7 were insanelyyy tight on me even though the length was fine. The 8's are kinda big but they fit fine with thick socks. I'm gonna get an insole so they'll fit perfectly. The good thing about sizing up is that they're comfortable right away.

    Another tip how to not painfully break through doc martens: this sounds weird but wear your docs around the house (preferably without socks) until you get used to the painful feeling of it then you can start wearing it outside. if your leather is a different type than smooth 1460, make sure to loosely wear it or else you might start making the leather wrinkle up.

So I bought the “Women’s 1460 smooth” instead and the cashier gave me tips on breaking the shoes. So Pascals tend to be softer. Also for sizing I got some Pascal lilac ones that were exclusive with a set of retailers. I got size 8 and they were tight and I wore them for 12 hours everday for 2 weeks and then they felt so comcomfortable. Unfortunately they were destroyed, so I ended up getting a different pair (because the lilac no longer exists in my size from Canadian retailers) and they are from the actual Doc Marten site. I got the union jack design and there are three different leathers overall in the boot, each one stitched on top of the next to make the union jack. They are also size 8 (the doc site has a multi country size guide) but they fit way differently. I also noticed the inside is lined with suede and it's a lot more comfortable. By the way, there are Doc Marten winter boots, I've never tried them but they seem pretty heavy duty and warm. Love the video!

    Mine came today. They're very stiff (as expected), but after applying some dubbin there was a noticeable difference. Not a massive one, they still need breaking in of course, but it's helped. Seeing as I'll be practically living in them over the next few months it hopefully won't be too long before they're like a second skin!

      @@sweetvonbettie1 It's a wax-based product that you warm slightly, then apply in thin layers before polishing it off. I think it's supposed to make the leather a little more pliable, and like I say, it seems to have worked!

      TheWayItIs I got the biggest size because the size six was already pretty tight with a thin pair of socks. So I knew that if I wanted a fluffy sock or a thicker sock it would be way to tight. Hopefully I made the right choice

      Nothing 203 I’d say you made the right choice. I work in a shoe store and the biggest mistake people make is saying they’ll stretch. Yes they do but nobody wants uncomfortable shoes and the toe box never stretches. Plus never wear thin socks with the boots.

    I got my first pair of Docs a week or two ago. I’ve worn them almost everyday, at home and I public for hours. With one pair of relatively thin socks, today I wore the with ankle socks. I’ve had no blisters, pain, etc. Everything I’ve read/watched says I’ll need to break them in slowly and it’ll be painful. I’m not feeling it and they already look like they’re getting broken in. Are my feet normal?

    Can I ask if Doc Martens are cheaper in the UK?? People are saying they’re spending $250+ and neither of mine costed near that. My first pair was the soft leather boots that I bought for £110 and my second pair is the Chelsea platform boots that I got on clearance for £89 (originally £140). The absolute most expensive ones I’ve seen here (at least in the actual docs store) was about £180. I know they’re English so that’s why I’m assuming they’re cheaper here.
