- (EDIT as of 1/26/24: officially canceling my Zanarkand hater self from five years ago--honestly this theme is quite nice and captures the emotional journey of FFX extremely well, I can't imagine any other theme taking its place. All the versions of it in the OST are beautifully done, I have a mind to record the Ending version of it as penance for my immaturity from five years ago!!!)

I was gonna say how moved I was by the performance, cause this song has its nostalgic hooks in me and it was performed with so much of what Bruce Lee would call *EMOTIONAL... CONTENT!*

I got nothing against FFX except for Nomura's penchant for excessive, useless belts and zippers lol, it's really a great game and I always recommend it as a great entry point to the series and let me tell you I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE SUTEKI DA NE TO PIECES but mannnnnnn i distinctly remember putting in the disc all excited back when I first got a PS2 and when the first thing I heard To Zanarkand I was like...."what...what the hell is this pedestrian piano nonsense?!?!" and it's been that way ever since lmao.

@@erjino huh you know…. reading my comments from 5 years ago I am actually kind of appalled at how harsh I was on poor To Zanarkand back then omg. I’d never say that about it now, it’s actually quite beautiful in its simplicity and I love how it’s intertwined in many versions in the OST, especially in Fleeting Dream, I’m officially cancelling my younger self for being an idiot lol. But regardless of what me or anybody else thinks, you’re well justified to like it or whatever you want!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ thanks for bringing this back!

Was browsing through some covers and came across this, one thing I noticed was this is mostly played happy and fast, but really I feel this is best played slow and powerful with soft notes and harsh notes, it really is about sitting on a cliff somewhere and reminiscing the times looking while into that space thinking about memories past. Captured perfectly in this, really was a pleasure to listen to thank you :)
thank you so much!!!! I totally agree, as this played in that opening intro of the game, the somber context of which you don't find out until much, MUCH later. It changes the whole feel of that intro scene and this theme in particular, especially as Tidus walks away from the rest of the party by the campsite to ruminate on his journey so far, and what is to come.
You always touch my heart. Years ago I begin you to keep doing amazing things like this, once again I thank you from the bottom of my heart. FF X it's one of my favorite games of all times and I love the OST. Thank you, keep going! Please!

Wow. Far better than other renditions I've heard. Interpretation is everything, as your performance proves. This is making music out of the piece, instead of just playing the notes. Even the official recording sounds flat next to this.

I absolutely love this theme myself. It's a pivotal moment when the party begins to understand it's a one-way trip. Not for Yuna, but for Tidus as well. It's the great calm before the storm, during an hour of friendship, regret, and resolution. It's such a strange mix of emotions and the song represents all of it perfectly. Maybe one day you will have more appreciation for it. It's lull, its climb and suppression, like open wings that know they must not fly.
Hugo G. I respect the opinion of everyone who appreciates this theme, I just never will. To me, all of the poignant moments you mentioned are conveyed much more powerfully in other themes (Yuna’s Theme, Via Purifico, Suteki da Ne and actually the transposed restatement of To Zanarkand in the Ending Theme is wonderfully done). To Zanarkand to me is derivative, not Uematsu at his best. But it gets the job done and I respect its place in the canon of greatest FF theme songs. But hey, this is just my own unpopular opinion lol and I know a lot of people love it, I just gotta be myself here. As for my playing style, it’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s my own and I’m happy with it. Fortunately for you there are tons of amazing pianists on TH-cam who have covered this theme so you’re bound to find one that speaks to you. Moises Nieto, Kara Camparetto, and PianoDreams have all done beautiful renditions.
Yuna's theme is great. It carries all the naivety and innocence of Yuna. Suteki da Ne, as a love song, expresses all of it in probably a way better way in Japanese than I could ever fully appreciate by not understanding it. All I have is the tone and the translation. It may be just me, but I am moved so much more by implicit emotions or themes, and that scene by the campfire before Zanarkand is brimming so hard, but never spills over. Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry If It came out as unappreciative. I really love listening to your music.
No worries Hugo, thank you for your comments and I appreciate your feedback and input, they stem from your own strong love for the game and I agree that campfire scene is one of the most affecting scenes in the game (the most moving scene for me besides the ending was seeing Auron losing control and slashing at the shadow of his younger self talking to Yunalesca; the frustration and pain of seeing his friends willingly go to their deaths was just so real and raw BUT ANYWAYS LOL) . I myself definitely agree with you that when an artist loves the source material, it is communicated quite clearly; I admit that I merely conveyed a superficial appreciation for the pretty melody of To Zanarkand, but any deeply felt emotions and nostalgia evoked for the game was supplied by the listener, not me (or, in your case, not evoked at all, which is quite understandable.) Those FFX feels come from me when I play Suteki da Ne, Yuna's Theme, and Servants of the Mountain, which I love on a visceral level. In any case, at least we both agree FFX is a great game with an incredibly moving story and memorable characters. =) thank you for listening to my vids and the kind words, I really do appreciate it very much.

I have some.how managed to be successful in my purposeful avoiding of playing this piece. I think I could endure through it if I learned the closing theme x but alas we cant always only play what we like. sometimes a need arises and we get voluntold to .... I think the same may happen to me and Schumann works for solo Piano, i just dont dig it but I know ill eventually end up fighting through something of his...nice playing and plug nonetheless :)

This one... sigh. All this track screams to me is, 'Nobuo fell off (predictably) . All good things... ' It's slightly pretty, but it's like sadness plus dreariness multiplied by the square root of Chinese water torture. Oddly, this suits the Jungian, Shinto-influenced, strongly anti-religious story, so - in a way - I'm not complaining too hard. Confused yet? Lol. By the way: thanks for at least trying to rip the guts from this one. Your playing is always technically superb.
