this distilled version pulls a lot of the schmaltzyness out and instead gives a decidedly more meloncholyish purer piece w better pacing and highly effective balancing out of the drama w a hint of sweetness ...and you get it...really. he doesnt overplay the sentimentality in the arrangement, its refreshing , when overdone, it just ends up an ooey gooey syrupy mess in most hands. nice work up ; I agree w you on the play out of some themes and I've been a big fan of Vincent's work for a while great video kuppo! **disclaimer I'm not anti schmaltz just a proponent of tasteful schmaltz, lol
awww man. I really appreciate that so much, thank you!! HAHAHAHA i hear you man, I definitely didn't mean to knock the vast majority of people who love to ooze all over this theme, because I too definitely got my schmaltz on with Theme of Love as an impetuous 20 year old lmao but these days I'm older and it feels more nostalgic to me than overly romantic. Vincent is just fantastic, a gem! I'm glad you know of his awesomeness too!!!!
@@purpleschala It does! I learned the base tune from the game by ear on marimba in D minor, but by nature of a video game track it just repeats the two sections really. This arrangement really brings a lot more out of it and makes me wanna learn it... Or adapt it a bit at least!

Easily the best version I've heard. You have really good taste, by the way; I suspect most people would play it at a much slower tempo and the result would be kinda saccharine. You on the other hand know how to make the music emote with an impressive grasp of subtlety. Um, if that makes any sense at all.
I recently finished replaying the ds version of this game and finally noticed that the theme of love is different in that game than the other versions and kind of ended up liking it better so it is nice to see you cover it while doing your own thing as well, as always it sounds great and I love the way you play I listen to a lot of piano players but no one sounds like you and I cherish that

0:12-0:23 I didn't know this song, but I thought I did when I heard what sounded like a clip from The Beatles: Yesterday. "Why she had to go, I don't know, she wouldn't say"
purpleschala it really does feel different! It's like when I played Chrono Trigger on DS and they added in the extra timelines at the end that linked to Radical Dreamers and Chrono Cross @^@
AHHH CONRAD I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I HATED THOSE EXTRA DUNGEONS IN CHRONO TRIGGER OMG!!!!!! it was like they took pieces of all the different dungeons and slapped them together and the result was this rambling, ill-designed mess that was just not fun to play at all!!!! especially given how brilliantly designed the original dungeons were in CT! and the retconning was so awkward ugh! of course my that didn't deter my obsessed ten year old son, he maxed them all out hahahaha
purpleschala yeah the retconning of the story felt awkward to me as well, maybe since Radical Dreamers wasnt too known. The Dalton fight was really interesting though since I've always wondered where he went LOL and the Dream Eater battle kept me on my toes! That's great it didnt stop him, I remember being at it nonstop ugh how I love that game
OMG THAT DREAM DEVOURER BATTLE AND ENDING ok ok so that was one battle/ending I was down with, it was interesting to see how Schala ended up absorbed into Lavos, and that ending was so depressing but explained really nicely what happened to Magus as a result! lol my son was SO frustrated by the battle I went to look up strategies online and we found that glitch you could exploit where you heal him over a six-digit HP and he dies as a result of the counter being reset to 0, he absolutely LOVED that hahahaha!
Your rendition here messes me good and proper, so sad, fucking beautiful playing. It’s great to see the flare you bring to it, like you’re petting Bahamut or somethin wondrous. Love that cello collaboration you’re doin as well. Huzzah.
Oh hi, Ruby! Nice job on bringing out the melodic lines, and also the material you added in the middle is very fitting. I only discovered your performance of this piece recently (it was a delightful surprise). Please do let me know if you record any of my arrangements in the future--always happy to see my arrangements brought to life.
Ff4 has a special place for me.. i am such a sucker for love triangles. I can compare this game to macross plus.... Now for your arrangement... Gdi this feel so poweful, it actually made me tear a little, specially at the latter part of this piece. Really lived your arrangements!
chaudblaze15 ahh I cannot take credit for this arrangement, it was done by the amazing Audiomuse, one of my favorite arrangers ever, all I did was play it hahaha! ❤️ thank you though! AND OMG I LOVE LOVE MACROSS PLUS so much easily one of favorite anime OSTs ever because Voices is so 😭😭😭 and I crushed on Isamu so hard as a teenager hahaha
Another winner. Have you ever listened to Celtic Moon? It's a Celtic/Irish folk music rearrangement of the FFIV OST. I had the CD years ago and used to play it a lot.
I really like Trojan Beauty played on the violin. It's very relaxing. I really love the implied symbolism of the song, too. Beauty can kill, it will swallow you whole - but what a grand death, eh? ; ) It's like it could be about Dorian Grey-like narcissism, or falling for the beauty in others, or both.
I'm surprised you've never heard the DS version of the song. I couldn't get it out of my head for weeks! "...I FELL IN LOVE WITH THEME OF LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN LOL." hahaha
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I didn't get very far in the DS remake because I wasn't all that fond of the original so I never heard it before!!!!!! But now I'm in the same boat you were with this version lol!
is there sheet music available? this a best version so far. really original like on the FF IV Celtic Moon with flute. thankyou for outstanding performance.
Perfect. I'm always going to love some nice performance of FF4 OST. It's not one that you explored all that much in your videos. Hopefully I'll be lucky to get more from that :P Although not my favourite of the series - FF6 is superior - it was pivotal in my interest for the genre. In a sense, whenever I start to play a new game I'm always looking for the same thrill I got from FF4.
haha thank you, that's very astute of you to notice I barely have any FF4 covers lol. Tbh like you, it was definitely formative in my love for the Final Fantasy series overall but not one I hold as dear as FF6 nor can bring myself to play more than twice, not even the remake. I fully respect and understand the great love people have for FF4 but for some reason didn't strike me as deeply as some of the other FFs have; it's possible that it's because I liked only a few themes from the OST. One arrangement I have had my eye on for a while is the overworld theme from the Piano Opera, perhaps I can tackle that sometime soon!
It was great for its time. In a time when games had extremely simple stories - like "kill the vampire" or "save the princess" - it was shockingly novel to play a game where the main character starts out as a villain and goes in search of redemption, and all characters had motivations of their own to cooperate. But I know it pales in comparison to things that came later - namely FF6, CT and FFT. I hold it dear for what it meant to my 10yo self and for how it paved the way for what was still to come. The OST is also not on the same level of the ones from the other games I mentioned, but quite a few tunes had that inherent Uematsu quality that would show off in full strength in FF6. I remember spending some time standing around still in some caves only to hear "Into the Darkness", or walking around aimlessly in the underworld to hear more "Land of the Dwarves", just like I did later in FF6 to listen to "Terra's Theme" or "The Phantom Forest". "Battle with the Four Fiends" has a bit of that menacing awesomeness that would hit me later in full force with "The Fierce Battle". Oh well, I rambled enough. Thanks for that "Theme of Love". One more for me to hear many times to come.
LOL you make a very good case for FF4, so much so that I'm seriously contemplating picking up the original for another go. The DS version felt like a completely different experience. Yes, you're absolutely right in that for it's time, it was quite groundbreaking, and I remember the hype from hearing my peers talking about it when I was in high school. I think that effect was somewhat lost on me because I played 6 before 4 (we got our SNES a bit late) and I remember feeling sort of let down when I got around to 4. But you named some of my favorite themes from 4, especially Battle with the Four Fiends, and the boss battle theme. I think I may have to try to start a new game tonight hahaha.
@@purpleschala I should go back and play the SNES classics sometime. If I remember correctly I finished FF4 3 times, but it was always the SNES version. Maybe I should try one of the fan translations on an emulator or maybe try the GBA version. So many games, so little time for them all.
hahahaha it actually makes me happy to hear you guys say that, as it shows that these themes have musical merit all on their own without of context of the games, so that's pretty awesome, thank you!!!!! If you ever decide to start playing any of them, my recommendation for a first FF game is FFX. It's a good starting place to get a feel for the series and probably the most well-balanced installment in terms of story, gameplay, music, and characterization.
