Beautiful craftsmanship, Kyle! 😁
Tucka! Thanks :)
One major issue, the bolts that hold the earphones needs to be switched to having the nut on the outside of the helmet because having the nut on the inside is dangerous in an accident. The nut and remainder of the bolt will impact/break your skull!!!
Great video, was awesome meeting both Josh and Kyle when I trained at aviator lake whales June 2019. My diy helmet came out great, freecon tmax Bluetooth, baofenge radio and sena sr10 to link baofenge and tmax wirelessly. Deff a good idea to mount perlators with Tnuts.
I am in the process of looking for a helmet to do a build on and found this video very helpful. I agree with all the comments about the bolt, there are other brands of ear muff that don't have a large single bolt but 3 small screws/ rivets. This is probably the way I will go. Nice job Kyle that as really clean build. To all the people who are saying that by cutting the helmet its no longer certified. All this helmet has (In the US) is CPSC
irrelevant
Great tutorial Kyle, I like it! 👍 Ordered the parts to make my own this week
Thanks for uploading this video. I have a Bern helmet and I'm about to do the same thing. It is nice to see how someone else built theirs. I just subscribed because of this video.
Great job,I would recommend if you rivet those hed peaces rather than putting big bolts close to the hed.because in case of an accident it may finsh in your skull.thanks
The way you mounted the mic makes it backwards. It makes the side you're supposed to speak into on the outside
Then twist it. 😐
Here in Orlando,my motorbike helmet is way too hot to fly with, this was perfect build for me,thanks so much !!
Thanks for the helpful demonstration and the inspiration!
Great job.
Nice build.
Talking about PPG. You always build stuff yourself to fly using electric parts.
Will there ever be an FT electric PPG? Similar to the Open PPG or a classic one, just with a single electric motor???
It would be great
Nice easy to follow. Great job Kyle.
Nice ,but the bolt should definitely be facing the outside . If there was ever a side impact the foam it could depress enough for the bolt end to make contact with skull. Modifying any safety device is kinda sketchy unless you are certified to make such modifications.
Just ask Octave Chanute.
@TheTimeTraveler2025 paramotoring is safer than riding a motorcycle by statistics.
I would agree with that. My build I'm going to use a "press-in" type bolt with some epoxy maybe so that it's not so protruded into the helmet
Absolutely! I was already planning on doing this type of mod to my helmet. Using a carriage bolt on the inside would be much safer. I might also try a Rivnut, as I have the kit. Otherwise great video!
It's like the video was tailor made for me as I inadvertently bought all the same stuff haha.
Great video!
This saved me $20. I was trying to mount the cups with those stupid Millennium Falcon pieces, but lost one, haha.I did the bolt flip trick, but otherwise this is a fantastic guide. Thanks, to all of you involved.
Really cool! I suggest using a tee nut for the inside. This is the hardware used by many military aviation helmets, and it creates a flush surface that won’t penetrate your skull during a crash.
Also, can your communication harness hook into a radio?
Wouldn’t the straps cause a gap between the cups and your ears?
Great informative video guys! Why so many haters? Do you really think trimming a little bit voids the helmets protective qualities? It is there to protect from minor impacts only. It's only a bicycle or skateboard helmet to start with. Get real internet "Experts"
Great video! Really appreciate your time putting this together. I was wondering if you could mount the Bluetooth selector on the outside of the ear muffs?
This is one hell of a cool-beans D.i.Y. video, guys! :-) Best, Rob! ^^
Great video. Exactly the same as my video so I'm glad that my video was also showing the correct way.
Ignore the people cracking on about safety. I don't think they understand that the helmets are more for holding the comms unit and protecting against small impacts like being dragged along the floor.
For those haters that think a BMX or ski helmet will protect your head from a 3000 feet fall clearly doesn't understand gravity. 👍🏻
why not use a protec tactical hellmet? which is already made for this kind of communication system plus you dont have to modify/weaken anything. and they are about $70
Alejandro Ayora aren’t they made for air soft paint ball?
Do protec tactical headsets have good sound protection for our application?
Great Video. Thanks
modifying a safety device. Genius.
I love the video and would love to build one, but the shopping list leaves out some very important pieces. Helmet I can gather is a matter of choice, but I see nothing but earbuds for sound or a mic... I don't see it included with the sena.
Correction. I do them supplied with the more expensive Sena.
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
Love it. What helmet are you using and can FT build like a quad and ship to customers. Or sell a complete kit with all the cables and things needed to customize your own
Does some have experience integrating a radio-connection? I'd like to use the sena mic and speakers with my radio and bluetooth the same time. Is the mic-output enogh for the Radio to use? If so, a simple y-Adapter would do, right?
What does Tucker use? His audio sounds pretty good, and if he has done this, a lot of these people on here probably wouldn’t be saying that it’s not a safe helmet
He uses the same :)
This is an awesome build! Does installing the sena (cutting into the ear cups) affect how well the sound is dampened?
Hj Aviation it’s not bad at all. I have ear buds in mine so it’s super quiet.
how to you put the earbuds in your ears with the earcup in the way?
How do you use the Sena in flight? Each pilot must have a matching unit? Can it interface into an aviation (Icom) radio?
The ear cups that you've linked seem to be designed for snapping into a helmet. What is the drill through kind?
Really nice, guys! Awesome! 😊
Do the earmuffs actually reduce the noise enough to protect your hearing?
Alberto, yes they come in different db reduction levels. They get more bulky as you get more reduction so its a compromise.
What do you do, when you bump your head and that bolt you put in there...
( pointed toward you skull)
Get driven into your brain ?????
Asking for a friend..
What paramotor is that in the background at the end of the vid?
Just a quick note. The lighting for this video is so bad that very little can be made out. Why didn't you use the lighting like in other videos you have made.
Drilling a certified helmet. wow!
At least it looks good.
Awesome I love u guys ❤️
HA! Sped-up sound of the Dremel's first cuts sounds like "no..no..No..NO..NONONONO!!"
Love the channel guys but this is a bit of a worrie. I did my my pg training about 6 years ago and one things that was drummed into us was safety and the importance of not modifying your gear. Even the wrong type of sticker adhesive could degrade the performance of your helmet. Yes I agree this seems totally ott but I doubt there is a single uk helmet manufacture that would give the OK for for this level of modification.
do you sell also? i need one, don't trust my craftsmanship.
those cheap microphones really suck . not for ppg use
extra dangerous, and the invalidation means not 1 penny for your widow.
O btw it voids the warranty 🤣
Was I the only one who thought it said "pig helmet"?
Making a helmet (that's purpose is to protect your life) weaker, smart.
Lol, it is not intended to cushion hard impacts. For that purpose there already are motorcicle helmets
Elio Guion so this is to wear walking around on the ground?
Elio Guion then why use a helmet, just strap the earpro to your head and thats all, dont need to carry unncesersy weight on your neck
I don't think it's a very good idea to cut up a helmet like that if u want it to work like it's supposed to in an accident
Ahh,we live with it.
For $50 you can buy a tactical helmet with built in rails for ear pro and they are farrrrrr more adjustable and comfortable than one of these... search airsoft tactical helmet.. Emerson makes them.. pj style helmets are very nice!
This uses the same rail and connectors that I am talking about but it’s farrrrrrrrr better quality and even has the knob to adjust the tension around your head.
Peltor makes amazing quality ear pro with noise canceling ability and you can even turn up ambient noise to be louder than if you weren’t wearing them.
This kind for example www.evike.com/products/37339/
Hey quads, Id be concerned about the impact cushioning with one of those tactical helmets. Seems to be a little thin & designed to bounce bb's off it rather than protect a melon from hitting the concrete like a skate helmet does. This is judging by purpose and photos. If I had one in my hands I might think differently.
Or you can just buy one nearly identical to this from Sky Cowboy... if you can afford a paramotor you should be able to afford the proper helmet.
Very bad idea to modify a safety device. There are manufacturers that make helmets that are approved for different sports. I’m not sure how things work over there, but no insurance would be valid in Sweden of we pulled that stunt. And if you can’t afford a certified helmet, or value your life a bit more, why fly?
Wolfgang Luif died recently from a prop strike to the head, he wore no helmet and wearing that piece of crap would do no better.
I think you are very handy though
Fly safer
WARNING: Do NOT attempt this while wearing the helmet!
😂
Cheap and nasty.
Spend more money and get a decent one.
Yea, spend $10,000 to get trained and buy a flying machine... but I’m not gonna spend more than $100 on a helmet? Not to mention my time.
I just saved myself 150 $
Sure, it's not EN966 certified, but f**k it, i won't pay the small fortune that paramotor helmets cost.
the music sucks ,why do 'how to" videos with bass drive sound track!!!!!!!!!!!!! thumbs down
Cutting and modifying a helmet. That's a hard pass for me.
Sorry to down on it I’m a positive guy but the minute you cut it it’s uncertified. With all Avation you should maximise saftey love the Chanel but for me just get the best kit you can. Flysafe Blaise.
I thought the exact same thing
Why do you need a certified helmet? It’s not required to be safe or be legal
Certified for what? This helmet isn't even required other than ear protection or you'll go deaf.
You don’t need a helmet at all better then nothing lol
Blaise Brogan It was certified before this though, more for impact rating. It’s not a legality when flying an ultralight vehicle, far 103. You probably should though nevertheless.. You may have “decertified” it and expired your warranty but it’s still there for what it’s there for, protecting against light blows, oops falls, foreign object impact, children throwing rocks, etc. And perhaps more so in this case, holding your comms. If you drop from the sky unconscious I doubt the helmet will make a breath of difference. Still good to have on, especially if instead of dropping you end up head on into tree branches, tapping a rock somehow, or end up inverting on an asphalt landing into a skull top drag because you thought you could easily make that last wingover that sweet low...certified any more or not.
(First ) wery cool
terrible lighting
Ouch, chiseling away the EPS safety liner of any helmet is VERY dangerous. This practice should not be practiced. Run the cable around the back of the helmet. I hope nobody copies this installation.
