  • In this video, I show you how to test and resolve Handa CID box module and coil issues related to an electronic ignition system spark failure. Sometimes it best of just upgrade to a more modern system. After riding this a bit more, Jake might want to convert it to a café racer or brat style custom bike - bad ass !

    This videos feels like it comes from another dimension seriously:
    @02:10 "Make sure you don't heat it up too much. You don't wanna damage the fragile electronics" Proceeds to blazing it to hell.
    @02:25 "Now that the epoxy is off the circuit-board, I can carefully pry the board from the case" Proceeds to obliterate the circuit-board with a flat screwdriver
    Lmao

    @Ichiban Moto This reminds of when my buddy got stuck out in the desert with no sparks. Luckily I had one of those dollar store electronic cigarette lighters. We replaced the thumb button with one of my buddy's stainless crowns from his back tooth. Then using Nickletown assembly tape we got that sucker jammed just right in the spark plug hole. The piston would push on the lighter at just the right point to give a spark at BTDC. Couldn't have done it without inspiration from you dude.

    Holding the spark plug is a fine way to get a nice shock. You were lucky this time, Ichiban. On the bright side, the shock tells you it's working. Heck, you don't even need a spark plug when you test it that way. :) Yesterday I realized there are a couple of sets of points in my electrical box. They're going to stay there too. You never know. Also it is kind of an old times' sake thing.

    I came here because i got honda rebel 125cc and it has no spark. Couldnt solve it myself. Sent it to shop they fixed it and it cost like 100 euros. In Latvia quite expensive since monthly AVG wage is about 500 eur. Then i run it for 1 day and it died again. Basically i turn it on it runs great and while warming up after 1 minute it died. And no spark. Then i took it to another shop and spent another 150 euros and it ran again. For a few days. Until same happened. I came in the morning to warm it up then it died. It's like it ate all the fuel from carb and died. But there is fuel. Thought it's cdi, but if cdi dies it stays dead. As much as i understand i took apart some stuff and checked wires and fuses. All good. (not 100% sure about wires) I am lost. Maybe you can help. P.S. Good luck with your channel! Subbed :)

    "New state of the art ignition system."
    That was a breaker points and condenser trigger system.
    My 1974 Pontiac had that system from the factory. And they are older than that.
    They also require periodic maintenance, adjustments, and replacement.

    • @sebastianreyes-schulze3276
      @sebastianreyes-schulze3276 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So would you not recommend putting it in your motorcycle?

    • @alpurl
      @alpurl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sebastianreyes-schulze3276 never said that.
      Besides, my current bikes are the same model, one 83, one 85. Both use the same type of trigger that failed in the bike in the video.
      Those pulse generators are no longer available from the manufacturer.
      So, if mine ever do fail, I may have to resort to the same fix as was used in this video.
      Besides, the beauty of things like breaker points is that they are purely mechanical. They are completely EMP proof.

      no, but it is much easier to diagnose & repair. with points, you can see every part of the system and make adjustments or troubleshoot individual parts. This also gives you the ability to repair your bike's ignition on the side of the road with only a minimal set of tools. it kind of sucks when your motorcycle breaks down in the middle of the night when your on some dark country road in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone reception and creepy, foggy cornfields on both sides.. this is the type of mod that will save your ass from being stranded!!! and yes, I know that sounded suspiciously specific. :) and I know this is a old thread. but his question needed to be answered.

    Being a twin you're working on there, I want to replace the ignition on a cmx 250 motor that's going into an off road frame. So an alternator delete is in order. Need to know if this ignition will work for this swap? Thanks.

    Nice video.
    Sir. I have a Honda Rebel (cmx) 450 from 1987. Recently my right spark doesn't have ignition so I started with the cheapest. I changed the sparks and still no spark on the right one. Then I changed the wires that goes to the coil. It worked the first time It started. The second time I started the motorcycle I had the same problem. When I was testing with my hand if there was pressure getting out from the right muffler I accidentally touched the muffler and I got an electric shock!!!
    Im thinking there a wire out of place and maybe the ignition coil got busted.
    any recommendations will be gladly appreciate it.

    I didnt see how that cover fit over those points, and he forgot to mention the the timing is going to be off by 10 to 20 degrees. OR the part # for the point set. Im going to try this on a Chinese bike Im having trouble with. Im going to use a car coil, condencer and what ever points I can get to fit...if it works, Ill let you know.
