he quite possibly did more damage by not saying anything and playing with the injury. that is on him. if he thought he was taking the high road by doing this he must now realize he made a poor decision. he should sit out no matter how long it takes and come back when he can play.
From what I read the medical staff said it was something safe to play through. Not sure it’s even still a serious issue but I can tell he is off with his skating so maybe time off now could help him get back to his usual game
The fifth most paid player in the NHL on pace for 37 points is “decent production”? Three of the four guys above him are on pace to triple that if not more
Peteys play last game vs Anaheim was great. He was skating, had a few chances and set up some plays. If he continues everything will work out fine. People used to hate the Sedin contract with their slow start labelling them as too soft
I think there are lots of facets to his declined performance. 1. Knee injury could have been worse than it was entailed and he played like that which caused long term problems. 2 the system tochett has doesn’t work with petey, and his linemates he meshed with got traded (kuz) or he doesn’t get to play with them anymore (boeser/hoglander). Lastly he could have lost confidence in himself,After all its frustrating to get in a rut where you don’t see to get out of. No one is more disappointed in his performance than himself. I think that large contract really has nothing to do with to tbh. Tocchet doesnt seem to like hoglander and petey isn’t especially receptive to his coaching style.
There’s a lot that goes into a players success and injuries and coaching can play a big role like you mentioned. I’m not ready to say he’s lost confidence though because his entire playstyle just looks a little off. Who knows though he could go on a hot streak soon and this could all mean nothing. Still early so we will have to wait and see
There is literally nothing wrong with him. If I had to say it was anything. I'd say its Vancouver that just finds any way to demonize a player. For years people thought Boeser was a problem. He was going through his father dying while he played up north of the border.
There is something going on, Petey has failed to produce at the level a 11.5M dollar player should produce at. The knee is likely the main problem especially since he changed his training this offseason to accommodate for it
I've been dealing with jumper's knee since february and even though I did rehab during summer it's still not 100%. The more you push through the worse it gets to the point where just walking up stairs becomes an issue. It makes me doubt he'll be able to recover as the season goes along, I wouldn't be surprised if it got worse. It's just the kind of thing where you have to avoid putting any strain on it for a long time for it to recover. If he's been playing in the god damn NHL through that then I'm honestly surprised he could even skate by the time the playoffs came around.
It’s his shoulder left shoulder that’s why is blistering slap shot is not being used. You’ll know he has healed when that returned. Any joint needs exercise to get blood flow to the joint. The shoulder is a ball and socket joint and rotary movements are necessary to have the healing power of blood get there.
If the injury is making him almost invisible, he should be sitting out. If hes on the ice and its making it so that the team is basically playing 5 on 4 hockey , its going to burn everyone else out. Im not trying to sound critical , I love the Nucks and I hope he gets back to 100% soon, but maybe its for the best for everyone , not just him? ... Im curious to know if there is an isolated play that caused the injury and why the footage hasnt been seen or discussed. Not that examining a piece or two of footage will do much other than bring out all of the TH-cam doctors , but it would be something that I think might settle people down a bit. We have heard him mention it , but there hasnt been a lot of questions answered in regards to it. I know its not the play to disclose an injury during a heater run like they had last year in an effort to not allow other teams to exploit it , but its kinda out in the open now. So maybe a bit more info would cool down the haters and critics a bit.
What didn’t understand and still don’t is why tf they never sat petey when the injury first occurred or at least before the playoffs? Tendinitis is no joke of an injury, if you don’t rest it won’t get better and probably worse. Besides competing for 1st in the division, the Canucks were in a great spot. No reason to not sat petey. The Canucks would have probably won against Nashville in 5 rather than 6 and would have beaten Edmonton if petey was at least close to a 100%. The timing of signing the extension and then shortly after getting the injury. Could have signed him to a bit cheaper contract. Great video though
Thank you for watching, ya that’s between Tocchet the doctors and Petey. They said he was good to play but tendinitis can be tricky. If it’s still lingering they may be better off now letting him recover. If it’s something else then maybe people should be more concerned about his regression
MONEY...some rise to the occasion once they get the big contract, and many coasts as they "don't need to bust their balls anymore!" Ovechkin and Crosbie are bonafide winners who hate losing. Once they get to the big show, they realize it's a grind after a while...
I don’t think that’s the case. Most players want to compete even after earning their contracts. This seems like something more physical based most likely from an injury
time?? it's been 50 games he's sucked big time...how much time do you give a guy making 11.6 per year?? sorry, but this CHILD needs to man the fk up and start producing....PERIOD
Nah I don’t think the money has had any impact on his game, I think it’s something else. I expect things to turn around but we will see depending on how serious this knee issue is
th-cam.com/video/uI75Vi7Ofzs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1yGA82Cli51au6Iu is this the injury in question or? I also think this is the reason why he hasn't playing well. I posted this on the Canucks Reddit but they all disagreed with me like usual cause they can't accept that this might be it. If someone slashed you in the knee like that a few times, that injury can linger if you don't sit down and rest it up. He plays timid against Philly too. Do you think other teams have seen this and know about it? They guard him alot and not even worried about the play.
It’s more of a muscular strain that has gotten worse. This could be when it happened but it’s hard to say. I don’t think teams are not worrying about him but who knows maybe he is doing something different on film and they are picking it up
rumours for a few years now is he smokes pot and is addicted to gaming. This can seriously mess with someone's motivation & drive..experienced it myself and seen others suffer also. it makes sense if you watch his behaviour....when he misses a shot or pass, he sulks and drops his shoulders like a spoiled little CHILD...it's f'in pathetic to watch. Furthermore....when you're acting like a child, your teammates start to lose respect for you , and he could be sensing this, further adding to his lack of confidence and fragile psyche. This kid isn't hurt...he's mentally fked right now..and he can't get out of it
Petey is going to be just fine. There is something wrong with him right now but he will bounce back. He's a really good player. And I'm an Oilers fan

Honestly 3 weeks of full time rest, followed by some physical therapy for a month or two, could save his long term longevity.
That’s if he and the team is willing to take time off, that’s always the difficult part
