Another classic is when the Police sent out letters to people with warrants for there arrest. The letter was informing them they had one won a raffle and had to show up at a certain location at a certain time to clams there winnings. The letter was signed by Jay L Bird. Needless to say a lot of people got arrested that day.

In Kansas City, MO there was a guy who went to a convenience store (7-11). He got a can of beer and went to the counter the clerk asked for the guy's ID. After giving the clerk his ID he shot and killed the clerk, and robbed the place. The police caught the guy by running his finger prints from the can of beer and the fact that the robber left his ID behind

Back in the late 1980's / early 1990's a radio station out of Philadelphia, PA had a bit they did called "Beyond Stupid" - where they recounted the stories of criminals doing things that can only be described as "Beyond Stupid".
One man robbed a convenience store and the quick thinking clerk said (basically) "No problem! I just need to see some ID." Without a question the man provided his driver's license, was handed the money and left.
When police asked for a description, the clerk just handed them the driver's license the witless thief had left behind.

The Signature is because in some states there have been cases where people have given consent to search and then later denied they gave such permission so the signed document proves the Police had permission of the Homeowner to conduct a search.

One of my favorite stores on America’s Dumbest Criminals was the guy who robbed a store and ran a way on foot. The police where able to track him down because the robber was wearing light shoes that light up whenever he took a step.

The show was a lot of fun. Besides CCTV and the bad re-enactments, they had historical dumb criminals, too. There was a fellow that received a life sentence in 1906(?) and escaped in 1938(?). An accomplice hid a car for him in a nearby stand of trees. The guards found him the next morning unable to start the car. No one told him that keyed ignition systems had been invented and he couldn't find the crank to start it.

2 the guy who thru a rock through a store window every evening for 3 day i think and stole whatever was in the window, the owner got tired of buying new windows so he had plexiglass install. the next evening the cops found the guy unconscious with a rock next and a nasty bump on his for head "rock bounced back"
3 and the guy who thought he out ran the cops in a high speed chase but the cops knew who he was and felt it was safer to wait for him at home.

Buddy of mine was responding to a grocery store that called about this obvious stoner just wandering around for an hour, not buying anything.
Now, just chasing the guy off on the threat of a trespass (state law required a formal notice that you are unwelcome and they have to allow you the chance to simply leave on your own before you can be arrested or charged for trespass) would simply mean coming back half an hour later and arresting him there for violating the trespass warning. Total waste of time.
Plus, simple trespass is such a lowball offense, he wouldn't spend the night in jail or even have to post bail - the magistrate would have him out with a summons before the cop could even finish the arrest paperwork (meanwhile, the cop would be unavailable to be dispatched on other calls until he finished processing the guy).
So my friend (in full uniform) walks up to this guy, smiles, waves at Captain Herbal Life and asks, "Dude, have you seen the cops?"
    "New, man..."
So, Officer Friendly then pointed at the floor to shout, "Dude! You dropped.your weed!"
At which point, this twice baked genius reaches down his trousers and pulls out a fairly full sandwich bag of marijuana and says, "Naw, Igot mine right here!"
Boom, an "arrestable" offense in and of itself (quantity qualified as "dealing"*, not "personal possession" which is more like a speeding ticket), and while he's in cuffs, the store manager has the opportunity to take a Polaroid and present a formal trespass notice ("Don't come back or the next time you come in the cops can just arrest you on sight..")
    .
    * It also gave the prosecutor plenty of room to offer a plea deal on a much reduced "simple possession" charge where the guy pleads guilty, pays a fine, and goes home, without taking up a half a day in court arguing it wasn't his weed ("It was my cousin's pants, y'Honor, I'd dint even know the weed was there!") Based on the experience of every cop, prosecutor, or probation officer I know, your cousins are the most likely people to hide their drugs in pants that you just happen to borrow the day you get stopped by police ... because it seems like at least half of folks arrested with drugs use that "defense". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

I have an _America's Dumbest Cops_ story. Several years ago, my friends and I wanted to watch a meteor shower. We decided to leave the city and drive to a smaller town about 35 miles away, where there would be less light pollution. We pull up to the local high school's football field, where we will have unobstructed views and room to spread some blankets.
Somebody must have seen us arrive and thought we were kids come around to graffiti or vandalize. We weren't making a disturbance at all, just talking at normal volume. Anyway, the fuzz pulls up-all three cruisers, the entire department, I think. They're up on top of the bleachers shining high-powered flashlights in our faces. We are a half dozen or so twenty-somethings sitting on blankets and camp chairs, very clearly causing no trouble or property damage.
Well, they sure did not have anything better to do, so they're giving us the third degree. One of them pounced with devastating investigative force by asking "Who's from Oregon?!" as if the state is peopled entirely by criminals. But I suppose they don't see many exotic city folk.
Anyhoo, they got around to the point eventually. "What are you doing here?" and we're honest and we tell them we came to watch a meteor shower. And the absolute smartest of the bunch, a _certified genius,_ follows up with *"Who told you there was going to be a meteor shower here?"*
Friends, I'll tell you this: not laughing in that man's face is one of the greatest feats of self-control I have ever accomplished in my life.

I think Chewie may be missing his bed to lay on while his Mommy talks to herself?

Not actually the way to make crack. It requires volatile chemicals and some cold medicine.
