- 15 years have passed from her debut, and we are still waiting for her and her genius....
By the way: other videos of Poe are available here, just this one was strangely missing. I just hope to not break any copyright, I don't know if there is problem with it in some countries. My intention is just to give a tribute to Poe genius and nothing else.
If there is such a thing as an underrated song for an artist that never got enough recognition to begin with, this is it. I've loved Poe from start to finish, but this is a great one that no one ever cared about.
Also, public service announcement: You can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being. Words to live by.
Absolutely agree she's an awesome artist there aren't too many who play the electric cello!!
I agree she didn't get the recognition she deserved, but at least she was on the radio. I love both of these artists to death, but I think Portishead was more underrated.
💯 I've tried😪😒
My 90's. Uggh can verify this ❤ muuaah
I'm a newcomer to Poe. I only encountered her a couple of years back while getting my ass lost at the Navidson's residence.
I absolutely LOVE her! She was real ahead of her time!
Just pulled this up from an old email to an ex. It was my response to one of his tantrums. Poe, you did so much for me in the 90s. Come back.
OMG like that "u got mail" deal? My dad told me sometimes it was faster just to send the paper thing with words on it.
😂
Almost eleven years later, still here we are! Thank you for all comments! With unfaded love to Poe, keep it up!
I had gone looking for more of her stuff long ago, and found some weird thread about her having a fall-out with her (producer?) and him swearing she'd never be able to produce an album again...something about rights/copyrights. Gonna go see if I can find any more info now- miss her musical style(s)
@@lisalisajean147 yeah, that was finished in the courts. I don't know what's stopping her now to make music.
Thanks for the info
Listening in 2024
Same
Then now forever ❤
Poe should've sold millions of albums, dammit. She's beyond excellent. I always thought she kinda looked like a prettier Uma Thurman.
Hm, I can kinda see it.
Can't to a psycho like a normal human being...So true
Prettier? No. She is an excellent singer-songwriter though.
Oh my god. My sister had this CD in the 90s when I was little and we used to listen to it. I was obsessed. I forgot about her, and then today "can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being" came into my mind, and I was like omg Poe
She was my idol in high school I love her still. Im 36
Lyrics are great
Omg me too lol. I’m 37. This was my inspiration of style and attitude as a teen
40 myself sweety and I still love her music.
Yaassss 90s was a great era to grow up with this kinda music. This was one of my high school jams
Well, five years more have passed since I posted this video....but still nothing new from this wonderful artist. Our love for her is still so strong, as our hope to see her art again. I wish to thank everyone of you that came here to hear the song, put a like and a comment. Dear Poe, if you happen to land to this page again, don't forget that we still love you, and will forever!
I'm still holding out hope for an album soon.
I played this song (and entire album) for my mother when I was 19. That was 22 years ago. The video release of this song happened in 1996. The album was released in '95 and most songs were recorded in '94. I had the album in '95, which I played in the tape deck of my 1974 Gold Duster. So yeah...keep hoping for a new album. I have been for 22 years.
Well thank you for posting this, takes me back to my teens!!! I appreciate you for this!!! Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being!!!
Honestly, if I was to guess, I think she's just trying to raise the money to finance the albums independently (I mean...would YOU go through a label after what happened to her?) and public interest in her has dissopated so much that it really is just taking this long. So much so the only thing she could do was "September 30 1955". However she has done a few live performances though, look up "Poe - Angry Johnny 2014" and you'll find it.
I'm also pissed no one of my generation knows who she is ("Hello" is an album older than I am - by one year) and I try to raise awareness but the only thing that works is playing Haunted to some other Goths I know. Its like "Well, time to talk about one of my favourite music artists...I enjoyed that"
What about the album with Haunted on it?
"You can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being". That couldn't be more true. All my love goes to you, Poe!
I'm not officially adding Jezebel until I'm off this planet... so I gotta ignore her til then
I had to deal with at least one psycho in college and it always reminded me of this song.
I've been with psychopath for about five years. It started when my boyfriend killed himself. I've been weak back then and this sycho just knew how to get me. Yup. It ended with horror - he broke my bones, he closed me in the room and keep telling me that my friend stole my phone... And that's just two of houndreds. I wasn't stupid or weak to geat myself so much in that, I've been fighting back... But what? Police officers laughed at me, same did the neighbours, his mother was a director of one of the biggest banks and his brother was a soldier who fought in Afganistan and Iraque. I had no help. By a miracle I kicked him off.
And how she’s wearing the shirt totally nails his narcissist attitude
, oh yes
Man this takes me back to the mid 90's, oh how I miss it. This was right around the time when MTV was dying due to all the reality shows. I loved this era of music and I loved how the world was back then. Sucks today to me.
True, true...
Still had MTV though, nothing now. A dozen music channels that suck, no new music videos basically, only some amateur self-released 'independent' stuff on TH-cam.
Most underrated song of the past 20 years.
One of the most underrated female singers.
I LOVE Poe!!!She rules!!Gen X and alternative music RULES!!
SAW HER OPEN FOR SMASHING PUMPKINS AT WORCESTER CENTRUM MID 90'S...OMG...KICK ASS LIVE
Poe is so underrated and so sexy!
I’m loving what so many of y’all said. Poe and Tori probably are why I made it through my late teens early twenties . I’m glad to see some still love this music like I do. This breed of singer songwriter seems to have gotten put to the wayside by all the internet’s equalization of regular basic bs. Real and true artists like them seem to only get their love from us, and hey I’m fine with that. Whatever happened to Lilith Fair is that still a thing? Ahh....the good old days before we learned our govt doesn’t care about us and we’ve been fed lies for decades...thanks for posting this. My fave Poe is always going to be Control, that’s my song!
You definitely got a reality check in recent years.
Congratulations! Welcome to the free.
Sara M too, fumbling was so great, I was huge into nin and industrial stuff yet could appreciate this stuff
@@judgy3 Tori did some writing with Trent . That’s why she mentions “nine inch nails” in her song Crucify. :)
When you listen to your favorite song 30 years later and still remember every damn word!
Holy sh!t‼️
Thirty. Freaking. Years.
I always thought she's so beautiful.
This whole album still holds up.
I miss this artist
Sometime around 1995 I was making a cable access show called X-TV in Boston. It was mostly video game and comic reviews but had music videos too.
Poe was doing a show and I went to see her for the rehearsal and filmed an interview with her. I must have it on tape somewhere.
After the interview she had a marker pen and I asked for her autograph and she joked about signing my face.
I said no but then thought it was a funny idea so she wrote POE on my right cheek.
I was coming back to see her show but there was about five hours in between so I went to Tower record to hang out. I thought people might think I'm a nut but no one paid attention to the graffiti on my face.
Actually I chatted a girl up while I was there and got her number and it didn't seem to bother her too.
Later at the show there weren't that many people there, maybe only a hundred, but she put all her energy into the performance and that impressed me.
She spotted me at the back and smiled pointing at me as she sang.
Well, that's my encounter with Poe.
I wonder what she went on to do?
Greatest song I've ever heard, played this song for the first 6 years of my teenage life. Poe spoke to my life.
I was enamored with this album in high school and I still enjoy it to this day
This is one of my most favorite songs of all time. I love Poe's music.
i miss 1995
thehoustonstrangler2
I was 3yrs old in 1995. lol.. but yeah, that embarrassing tidbit aside **cough**, there was a lot of great girl rockers that were in their prime during the mid 90s, like some sort of cosmic occurrence. I'm a huge fan of that decade mainly because of that reason.
I saw her play this live in Chicago at NorthHalstead Days in 1996-she was awesome!
In the video I thought she was going to eat the man.
Unfortunately, even twenty years later this still reminds me of somebody!
Saw this gal in the mid 90s with Seven Mary Three at The Brewery in Louisville KY. Loved her from the start and still do. Smoked out with 7M3 after the show. GOOD TIMES! I feel so grateful to have grown up as a 90s hellion.
She could have added another 10, 12, 13... verses and I'd listen to it and still want more!
I was a widower with a 4 year old when this artist came around. So this is like... really wonderful. She's wonderful. Unusual, but wonderful. Gotta hear more. Thanks for the up.
she was soooo close to being a huge star.......we all lost because the music would have been great
Yeah, I don’t know why she just plain disappeared after she released Haunted. Interestingly enough, her brother, Mark Z. Danielewski, wound up having a far more successful and prolific career than her. He’s the author of House of Leaves (which came out the same year as Haunted)- one of the most unique and acclaimed horror novels of all time- and lots of other successful books.
I miss music like this =,(
April Louise me too!!
The 1990s had some excellent music!
90's music was SO GREAT!!!!
"There's nothing more sadistic than an infant waving his pistol in my face"
Greg Nixon guess u can say she has bad taste in men...
Truer words were never spoken.
He scares easily
It makes him so angry
At me
And his head it spins around
Just like the Exorcist and I
Find it ever so
Hard to resist his cries
But there's nothing more sadistic than an infant
Waving his pistol in my face
He wants me right down on my knees
Crumbling in disgrace
But he underestimates my mind
I know he's messing with my head
My only weakness is
I can't believe the guy could be entirely dead
Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being
Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being
Trigger Happy Jack
You're gonna blow
But I'm gonna get off
Before you go
My Trigger Happy Jack is just a
Drive by a go-go
And after awhile he calms down
And he looks at me like a prince
But I know I better bite the bullet
'Cause it's just another one of his
Jedi mind tricks
But this ain't no headtrip honey
This is a collision on the road
And you've got me feeling oh just like a roadkill
And you know deep down I know
Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being
Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being
Trigger Happy Jack
You're gonna blow
But I'm gonna get off
Before you go
My Trigger Happy Jack is just a
Drive by a go-go
Why do you make me feel like this? (1-2-3-4)
Why do you gotta be such a dick? (1-2-3-4)
Why do you make me feeling like this? (1-2-3-4)
Why do you gotta be such a dick? (1-2-3-4)
Go-go
And I hate myself
Just enough to want him
But I hate him just enough to get off
But I understand him
Maybe I'm just crazy enough
To love him
Why not? (Why not?)
You can't to a psycho like a normal human being
I love poe, but i never knew there was a video for this song
Christopher Gifford the video for Angry Johnnie is great too
I love her she's amazing wish she would release more song's 😢
I’ve always loved Poe, the artist. I always felt she was the most underrated artist of the 90’s.. she’s got the most hauntingly, beautiful voice I have ever heard.
Man I love this. Her voice is something else.
Discovered this 1/13/24 and am better for it. Over 4 decades on Earth and I've barely listened to Poe. What a fool am I.
Poe is my all time fav chic artist, where ya at Poe? We miss you
Michelle Hardisty you DO know she released an album 3-4 yrs ago? Kinda lost interest by then, like with Dido. But maybe I'll get around to checking it out.
My wife put me on Poe. I love my wife so much for being herself. Poe, I had never heard of before. God damn it Poe is awesome & woefully underrated. Thank you my lovely wife for expanding my horizons. Love you.
Poe should've played Tank Girl
Omg yes!
Kinda reminds me of the scientist who joined her
@@adamstation2281 who? TG or Poe?
Don’t know about all that but in the soundtrack fo sho
@Rose Madder I loved the movie. Saw it many times also I’m 39, born in 82 so it gives me good 90’s nostalgia. I’m definately a geek, I read some popular science books a lot of fantasy and collect and sell tv props from those types of shows, the magicians, supernatural etc…but I never did get into graphic novels or comic books. But yeah I liked the movie I just thought the lead girl the tank girl did a good job Is all.
Anything by Poe is a work of art, a must on every cut, find it all and own it, it's party-time!
the lyrics of this song are so perfect.
I saw her in Austin, I think it was at Liberty Lunch. they didn't mail it in, it was a great show, the electric cello was so cool.
I saw her when she oponed up for Seven Mary Three back in the mid 90's...I had only heard Hello, but she absolutely killed it.
me too!!
Wow! Me too... at The Brewery.
This music is haunting and hallucinatory. I have loved Poe for nearly 35 years. It never gets old or used. I wish my poetry had as much vehemence and velocity. I love her, period. Not romantically, but for her sheer talent and artistic vulnerability and superiority.
this is my favourite song by her it is so badass. She needs to make a comeback.
Might never happen. Check her back story online. She was in the middle of a big tour supporting Depeche Mode with her conceptual second album when a merger put a halt to the momentum and resulting debts mean she may never be free to make new music for a national audience again.
@@razorbeard6970What a bunch of assholes! You know... There's a special place for assholes like that: The 5 1/2 minute hallway!
Damn! What a trip back to '95! "But I'm gonna get off before you go"
Side note - Poes brother once said depending on the moment, POE could either stand for Powers of Evil, or Peace on Earth.
Great stuff.
I remember being 13 years old around there listening to this and every time I listen I think of those days 😂 I’m almost 39 now damn.
This is EXACTLY how I feel right now.
I got wonderfully reminded of this song by my sister today on Facebook. She posted and tagged me asking if I remember it. It used to be our favorite song. I never learned why she disappeared. Thanks for posting the video.
THIS SONG REMINDS ME THE TIME WHEN I WAS 23...IT COULD BE THE BEST TRUCK I'VE EVER LISTENED NOT BEEING IN THE UNITED STATES I AM YOUR FAN MY DEAR POE
SALUDOS DESDE LORETO-PERU
I don't understand how I knew of Liz Phair back then and not Poe. In fact I never heard of Poe until a month ago. Serves me right for not watching 120 Minutes.
Poe is everything I love about "alt-rock". Wildly underrated. I'm listening to my 90s playlist this month and she is well represented. Modern spiritual descendants--K. Flay, Billie Eilish (at least until she started doing all that pop crap) and Meg Myers.
I recommend accuradio's "alternative on the charts". Nice and edgy. My advice? Always stay current with your rock and you will never grow old. Me: age 62. Current faves. Muse, Maggie Rogers, Wilderado, Wet Leg and Maneskin, just to name a few...
I could definitely see K.Flay being influenced by Poe. Meg Meyers too. Both great in the modern era of music.
I was definitely rocking her three most popular songs (on the same album) back in the early-mid 90's. They were on my local radio "rock" station.
One of my favorite artists from the 90s! Can't help to wonder if she's referring to a narcissist
Yes exactly
God I still love her
Underrated gems of the 90s ❤
This is probably the most important 3 and a half minutes of my life.
You bet ya
Best description of a relationship with a narcissist ever!
Haunted is an amazing album. I hope this talented lady starts releasing albums again.
Now more than ever, it helps to remember: Can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being...
Stay strong, brothers and sisters :)
Jack is another version of John. Just Johnny again =)

Underrated, is the word ❤
It's kind of sad that this reminds me of several of my relationships. At least any that lasted any length of time...
This song came from my belly reflecting on the last two years……
Thanks Gigi. A great example of her kickass talent. I even have a playlist devoted to her tracks. (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Phillip Glass, only have those spots!) I don't mind that she wants to live her life not creating music, although I miss her musically. I wish her all the creative happiness in the world, whatever she is doing - So, Thank you POE for all the wonderful things you have created, total respect to you.
So, I take it when she says "infant" that she's just calling him an infantile man.
You got it!
2020 & this is still the shit!! 💜
One of my favorite favorite favorite songs to sing!!!
maybe she made her point with just that she's good and happy now
Bought this album for $1 used. Before Lorde, Poe.
+eyeseer1 And, b4 Lily Allen, too!
I'm glad you got where you went ... look at you now.. you made it..I new it..
I swear this album was out in 94, the internet said 95, but these songs were on the radio in 94. Q101 that is.
A Parks I heard this on 96 WAVE (WAVF) for the first time in 1996. I really miss this sound in the music industry...current popular music just ain't the same.
Mandala effect
YEAAAAAH RADICAL!!!
I've looked for this video SO MANY TIMES but never found it. Now it just appears in my "recommended" list as I'm watching Angry Johnny. Stupid awesome goddamned TH-cam.
"You can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being". I couldn't agree more!
Surviving the crazy '90s with music like this. Thanks, Poe!
P.S. Anne DD
this is a walk through memory lane. wow
"But there's nothing more sadistic than an infant
Waving his pistol in my face
He wants me right down on my knees
Crumbling in disgrace"
I like that my 2nd husband introduced me to this......a song about #1.
My friend John (no relation to Angry Johnny) just turned me on to Poe. I’m grateful! I’m an Aimee Mann fan… Poe is another artist who has lyrics as well great music/arrangements… this tune is crazy cool, with the varying dynamics.
Who? Is Amy Mann from the 90's too?!?!
Goes without saying that if you're a fan of Poe, it's impossible for you to be an angry Johnny as well.
Incredible song from an incredible artist, I want more from Annie.
Finally. Been looking for this video for a while. Thanks. Still rocking the cassette of this album.
Never knew there was a video for this song...awesome!
I miss John O'Brien...my friends were her bass player and guitarist, and he dated he for a while...#RIPJOB
Omg THAT'S who her mouth acting and expressions remind me of! Emma Thompson, particularly as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing lol
ive been listening to her a lot lately. Pandora, Poe radio is top!!
Still one of my favorite songs of all time ❤
Unlocking memories from my childhood via artists my mom used to listen to
Seen her perform this live and still top ten shows for me!!! Love her
Living this for 14 years
2021 POE you STILL make me stronger
Probably the worst "superfan" in history (if you don't count Mark David Chapman) was the billionaire who bought Poe's contract and stopped his favourite musician from creating any more music. She must really despise that guy.
She put up her music as collateral for a $200k loan then defaulted. She can make all the music she wants now that's been settled a long time ago.
Rob Fraser now i know why the caged bird sings.
Why does Poe have beef with you?
I like the Psycho shirt, love a woman who comes with a warning.
POE TELLING THE TRUTH OF OUR REALTY BAD GIRLS LOVE BAD BOYS TOO. PAPA LES CASH XXXXOOOO hugs too love ya!
Haven't heard this song in years. Its interesting listening after all this time.. Poe seemed to be warning us about abusive relationships, but unfortunately, its hard to see the signs until you've been through it.. sometimes I still wish I knew why he made me feel like this.. why did he have to be such a dick..
She's so hot
dat guitar tone during the mosh part...the DOD grunge pedal was based on that circuitry
I use to dedicate this Song to My Former Husband.
She knew what was up... Sounds like she too got tangled up by a Cluster B.
I'm surprised they didn't use the single version. I thought this was a demo at first.
