Totally agree.. In fact, exactly today I thought about 90s music, after having seen a concert yesterday, where they played several 90s rock music.. And i thought "wow, I hated grunge in the beginning and 90s rock music, for it erased the previous hard rock scene... Then I realized, that in the end of the 80s all rock bands looked like drag queens pretending to play rock musuc, when it was all love ballads and acoustic stuff covered in glitter and leather... The 90s came with a whole new scenario of nerds and weirdos, who were really sad and angry, for they didn fit in the picture, but had alot to say.. I mean smashing pumpkins, nirvana, all those people were more like me, than Whitesnake or Stryper... And then I started to drive and put on Gish by the Smashing Pumpkins and I thought "wow, this is Emotional Angry music..." I can understand, that slot if the audience felt this way as well... Not fitting into the world, looking fir someone, who talked about the negative side of life, instead of always Love if my Life, Love and affection, More than words, Fool for your Loving and such... I m now re discovering many great bands... Music is Life!
my mom showed me this song when i was really young, she told me she resonated with it, which made me sad because i thought it was a very dark song. Now I’m older and have found an appreciation for it and resonate with it myself. Unfortunately it’s coming up a year of my moms passing and i thought I’d listen to this again as a tribute to her memory. Love you mama, see you on the other side
90s music is just so sleepy, it’s just like so calm and anxious that it gives you that Sunday vibe where u have school or work the next day and you feel so shit but try to have fun because it’s Sunday but you can’t lmao. Hard to explain. I could put 90s playlist on and fall asleep like a rock to it
90's is my fav genre. Living through it in my 20s was frankly a real privilege. It was so gritty, strong, and unapologetically authentic. It was a middle finger to the excess of the 80's. I'm getting how powerful.a lyricist and musician that Courtney is. She really gets a bad rap, but I feel sorry for her. Her life has been a shit show and that is coming from her. I look at her triumphs, not mistakes and see her as an inspiration. I mean she had to keep it together after Kurt's suicide a rear her daughter on her own. That had to have been brutal and she did what a lot of people in that situation do. She self medicated. But, the woman got clean, works her tail off, and has worked hard to be a better person for her daughter and her fans. We all lost Kurt, a damn legend, but that was her husband, the love of her life, and father of her only child. Anyone dealing with that would have epic pain. I respect Courtney, as a person, a mother, a d as an artist. If she were a man, would we hesr the same villifications that this artist had experienced? Doubtful it would be as severe. Courtney, keep making your music and representing strong women of our generation.
I loved Courtney so much. I cried and got through a lot of painful times in my room listening and screaming the lyrics to her songs. She made want to start my own band but im too scared. I still love baby doll dresses and even in my senior year in high school i had barrettes in my hair. Grunge and hip hop was my generations way of expressing ourselves.
(im 15) yeah she really inspired me to write my own music and my style, and I always find myself crying to her songs. I love wearing barrettes in my hair everyday and wearing kinderwhore/babydoll clothing and makeup. It hurts to see her looked down upon and blamed for Kurt's death. She is my icon.
I saw her play Lollapalooza in 95 and it changed my life. Her foot up on the amp, screaming, and just shredding. She’s everything rock should be. Forever the queen.
The reason we feel this way is because we arecut off from God by our sins against Him. Here is the roadmap to show how you and everyone can find Him. Site Map We’re all explorers in unfamiliar territory. How do you find the way? You read the map. THE WORLD IS DESIGNED Look at your hand. All those muscles, nerves, blood vessels; skin, fingernails, touch sensors -did those just happen? Of course not. Evolutionists have to try to lead people away from what is intuitively obvious: we are designed for life. Your hand is just one of a billion signposts that life is the result of an intelligent cause - not chance. Illustra Media’s excellent films on Intelligent Design leave no other option: the universe has been Master-planned (watch The Case for a Creator online). Science can lead you to this signpost The rest will take logic, historical evidence, and honest reflection. THE DESIGNER IS PERSONAL Out of nothing, nothing comes. Your mind - your thoughts and emotions, and your power to choose - have a source: a Creator with intellect, emotions, and will. No “force” or cosmic accident could produce a mind. Those who say the mind is made of chemicals cannot prove their thoughts have any validity-including their thoughts that the mind is made of chemicals. Your mind is the next signpost: the Creator is personal. THE DESIGNER IS MORAL We all know right from wrong. Ask a person who believes morals are relative, and you will find him or her passionately defending some cause or other as right. Treat that person unjustly, and they will tell you that you were wrong to do that. Anyone who says morals evolved from our animal past cannot prove anything is morally wrong, including the horrible notion that someday a terrorist nation might seek to kill off all the evolutionists. Would that be wrong, according to Darwinism? Your conscience provides daily evidence that morality is real - and that we all violate our own moral standards. THE DESIGNER IS ETERNAL Once you’ve followed these signs, you realize that the Designer who really exists-who really created the world and life-must be an eternal, all-powerful, all-wise, moral being. A local designer won’t do. Otherwise, truth would only be true locally, and right would only be right locally. The universe must have an unchanging, timeless reference point. That eternal reference point is your next signpost. THE DESIGNER IS ONE Ancient religions that taught polytheism (lots of gods) ended up telling stories of those gods fighting each other. They could never say who made all the gods. Even their chief gods were said to emerge from the void. No; the universe has one, and only one, Master Architect. THE DESIGNER COMMUNICATES Humans are communicative beings. It makes no sense that the Designer of human beings He made to relate, share, and communicate would be silent Himself, or would hide His signposts from them. The eternal moral Judge of all would not leave His creatures clueless about His laws. God has put the light of His existence into creation, our minds and our consciences. Light received brings more light. Keep in mind these directions: “turn right at the light.” THE BIBLE IS THAT COMMUNICATION There are many holy books in the world, but there is only one that is rooted in history: the Bible. It’s not just the speculations of a guru; it can be checked against other historical sources. The Bible is a collection of 66 books, written by different authors at different times, who all agree on the nature of God and the requirements for salvation. Where it speaks of history, it is right. Where it speaks to science, it is right. No other “holy book” comes close. THE BIBLE FORETOLD A SAVIOR From the first book (Genesis) to the arrival of Jesus, the Bible foretold a day when the Lord would visit His people and wash away their sins. One of the most remarkable prophecies of all, Isaiah 53, described how this innocent “Servant” would be beaten and pierced, suffering for the sins of the people. Isaiah 9:6 foretold he would be the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the prince of peace. Isaiah 7:14 predicted He would be born of a virgin; Micah 5:2, that He would be born in Bethlehem. These were written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Online selections from the La Mirada film Prophecies of the Passion explore many of these prophecies. JESUS CHRIST IS THAT SAVIOR Not only did Jesus fulfill dozens of prophecies about the coming Savior, He rose from the dead. This is the ultimate miraculous proof Jesus is the Son of God. The evidence is overwhelming that Christ is alive - the empty tomb, the martyrdom of the apostles, the number of eyewitnesses - and the skeptical theories all are fatally flawed. He lives! See these 9 episodes from the La Mirada film The Case for Christ for a good presentation of evidence that convinced a hardened atheist. JESUS CHRIST CALLS YOU TO REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS The message of Jesus Christ is to repent of your sins and believe the gospel. The gospel is the good news that the Lord has come, has put away sin by the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, and has offered eternal life by faith in Him. God doesn’t want your good works or efforts. Your sins make you fall far short of His requirements. You need to be “born again” into the family of God, then God the Holy Spirit will dwell in you and lead you into a life pleasing to Him. He made it easy, so that even a child can do it: just repent, and entrust your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. You could do it right now. Pray something like this, meaning it sincerely: “Lord Jesus, I know you are my Creator. I know I am a sinner, and I’m sorry for my sins. I now choose to turn from my sins to you. I believe that You died on the cross and rose again for me. You said you would come into my heart if I would open the door, so I invite you into my heart, to be first in my life. I believe you do come in, right now like you promised. Thank you for giving me eternal life. Now I belong to you! Help me to live for you in all I do. Amen.” THE WALK OF FAITH Christ followers begin a walk of faith. Faith is not a leap in the dark; it’s taking steps in the direction the evidence points. The walk of faith is a narrow trail (unlike the broad highway of sin), and it is difficult at times because of sin in the world. God’s word gives us a flashlight for the path. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, and trust Him even in the hard times. Read and study the Bible for guidance. Join a solid, Bible-teaching church that teaches creation and salvation by grace through faith in Christ (stay away from cults that pretend to do this). Be baptized and get involved. Find mature Christ followers who can help you stay on the right path, till we all join in celebrating the victory of Jesus in a great family reunion in heaven. A LIFE OF SERVICE Before we meet in heaven, what on earth are you doing for Christ’s sake? God gives every one of His followers gifts and talents to use for building up His family, the church. Find out what your gifts are and use them to serve the Lord and help others. You can be part of fulfilling Christ’s prayer, “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” From now on, your life will be an adventure of faith, walking with the Lord, with His Spirit dwelling within you to guide you. As missionary William Carey said (and proved true in his life), “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” May God bless this to your hearts.
Where is such great sounds today for the heartbroken, for the lost ones, for the ones who suffer?! Back then it comforted me, and I didn’t feel so damn alone…
I haven’t heard this song in a looong time, but even 30 years later it still has the power to astonish. I personally don’t care whether Kurt or Courtney wrote it. She’s the one singing it, and the feelings are all hers.
My best friend commited suicide and this song is hard to hear because he suffered inside. Bullied, drug addiction, relationship issues, identity issues. But he was a beautiful dude. Always a light. Rest in peace eddy. I love you man. And took a part of my heart away when i lost you man. I took the weight for this guy as much as i could but that wasnt enough. If you need counseling seek help. Suicide is never the answer. You never fully understand how much a person loves you until you arent there any more.
I know it hurts, but please be at peace with it. He did it to end his own pain, not to cause any pain for anyone else. Be comforted by the fact he is no longer suffering the kind of intense agony that would drive a person to commit suicide. It's like being trapped in a burning skyscraper, no way to escape, you're certain you're going to die and you just want the pain to stop - so you jump out the window. It SEEMS the only logical choice. To the suicidal person, it seems completely irrational to spend the remainder of their life unable to do anything but suffer immense pain. They just don't realize there truly is a way to put out the flames when their "burning skyscraper" is mental anguish. He just didn't know. It's tragic, but he simply didn't know and there's likely nothing anyone could have done to convince him. Some things we HAVE to discover for ourselves. Yes, if someone suicidal is reading this, there IS a way out. Keep looking. It's hard to just take that on faith, but keep trying. Get help, get advice, but you're the one who ultimately has to figure out the answer, to find another exit. It's different for everyone, but it IS there. Keep looking. What have you got to lose to give it another try? If you've lost someone to suicide, be at peace that they truly thought they were doing the right thing, they just didn't know, they couldn't know - why should they believe us when we're not the ones suffering? Our reasoning and reassurances sound like sheer nonsense in the face of their pain. It's a tragic and heartbreaking thing but they never intended to hurt you... it was never about you, just their tremendous suffering, and there's nothing you could have done. Be at peace with the peace they found and accept that not everyone will succeed at finding another way and there's no one to blame for that.
Suicide is NEVER the answer because suicides go to hell, directly to hell. they don't 'pass Go" or collect $200.And 4 suicides, hell is whatever you were trying to get away from, forever.
@@NorthernKitty powerful, enlightening, and tremendous relief. Thank you for your kind but sincere words. There is exquisite truth in what you say and the sense which it is explained is comforting. I thank you again for your words. And trust when i need to, i will come back here to this post/reply for a little of YOUR reassurance that we are all human and we have to make choices. Thank you sister. Be well in the 2020 and beyond
There is nothing wrong with liking both. People are just flocking to create an "us" and "them" mentality everywhere they go. When you refuse to participate in this oppositional false dichotomy, it confuses the sheep.
Courtney was in so much pain. She expressed it in a way I couldn’t for myself. Thank you so much for sharing your pain with the younger version of me and helping to heal both her and me now
aaaaaaahh yeeeeeehh she sings well nice ´n pretty tasty hear hear sure does .. it just comes a little rotten her throat out .... it´s like hearing a skunk it´s butt gettin sandblasted
This song has always knocked me flat on my ass. You can hear all the hell and suffering and pain in her voice. She's never gotten the credit she's deserved and prolly never will. But this album is about as good as it gets forever. ❤️❤️❤️
@@triciariddle1418yeah I think she had something to do with an even more amazing artist death, listen to the words. She is almost telling you. I love the song regardless.
Yes! I was in my late teens when this album came out and it resonated with me so much. I had so much going on back then and she helped me relieve my stress and depression. ❤
@@ev4742 there's footage of a live performance where there's a douche heckler shouting just before her last howl ("watch me while I drown") and it's a perfect moment. It's somewhere here in an old interview with her
“Doll Parts,” which Courtney wrote “in 20 minutes in a girl named Joyce’s bathroom in Cambridge, Massachusetts.” “I had to write most of the lyrics on my arm in sharpie as I ran out of paper,” she continued. “People were pounding on the door as I wrote it. It was played for the first time about an hour later, at the Virgin megastore in Boston. It was about a boy, whose band had just left town, who I’d been sleeping with, who I heard was sleeping with 2 other girls, it was my way of saying ‘You’re a f-ing idiot if you don’t choose ME, and here is all the desire and fury and love that I feel for you. Good songs don’t always come in 20 minutes but the force was strong and that one did.” “Anyway I married that guy,” she cheekily concluded.
Her voice is so damn seductive. So much feeling in it. "I fake it so real I am beyond fake. And someday you will ache like I ache." fantastic lyricism. This is such an underrated banger. You can feel the pain.
@@andrewferguson8032 this is definitely all Courtney, she’s spoken about her love for Anne Sexton and this is clearly inspired by Self in 1956. She was also diagnosed with autism as a child and the feeling of fakeness and performance is a very common trait in females with autism, as we mask a ton and essentially absorb the personalities of whomever we’re speaking to. And that type of line can only come from someone who’s lived a lie for a long time and has actually come to relish their artificiality or take a bitter pleasure from it.
@@salliejoyner9751 I must admit that my initial impressions of Courtney, in the early 90s, were not good. I ended up going to a Lemonheads show in Hollywood, where Hole was the opening act, and then I heard their album. I was blown away and did a complete 180.
“Emotional neglect is largely, invisible. When one is emotionally neglected as a child, it is impossible to understand what is missing because it is impossible to understand what one has never known and can’t see. The emotional neglect of a child, places within them a black hole. It produces an insatiable loneliness that can consume the spirit, body, and soul of a child. As a child, I was a victim of emotional neglect.” Pam Witzemann
But..she killed Kurt!! Not a deal to be made to be successfull here..the Devil. Did not succeed here doll...and i loved them both!! But if truth..otherwise does not make sense why she did not do more music..here..
She sang this when i was two years old yet it was written for 24 year old me. Im 32 now & recognizing this. Not many songs make me feel seen, all of me, my pain, anger, and vulnerability.
Did everybody understand who the little boy was with the blonde hair, striped t-shirt, jeans, and black and white sneakers who played with dolls? The genius and the pain contained within this clip.
maybe he’s representing kurt… or it’s Courtney in her childhood. Maybe she felt like a boy bc her mom never allowed her to wear girly clothes, take ballet lessons and play with dolls and stuff.. (that’s also part of the reason why she dressed kinderwhore in adulthood) he’s/ she’s looking at the doll wishing to be more like it, perfect, girly Idc just the thought that crossed my mind when i saw this image
Also in my opinion ,,doll parts” is about comparing to other women when it comes to rivality in realationships. She probably feels worse than them bc she’s not the ,,perfect doll”, the kinda women she was looking up to as a child. So she remembers how she wished to become that perfect woman when she was little
*Directed by Samuel Bayer. 90s music videos would never age. They are the real path breakers and trend setters. The unconventional camera angles, over saturated color, focus shifts to wherever, jump cuts, flash cuts. Aahhh the sweet 90s music videos nostalgia.* 🤩
I think, cause they had the bigger singles. I love babes in toyland, l7 etc (not too crazy about hole), but none of those bands had catchy songs like black hole sun, alive or come as you are
The industry was extremely sexist to every musician that emulates a woman with a guitar at the time. Now they are nicer but what women have to go through to get to places in life not even like Courtney, is the saddest way to live. Men do not face what that kind of psyche endures. It’s a very sad world and the state of the globe has reverted back to times nothing like 1994 as this song embodies and is the epitome of what defeat is. Take care and stay safe many blessings.
Me too! I actually started sobbing when I listened to this for the first time tonight! All of those awful teenage feelings came rushing back... so much vulnerability. That's what the best of music is able to do, to transport us somewhere or to some feeling instantly. Amazing, incredible album.
I always had a crush on courtney she was crazy and yet so hot with how crazy she was. One of the most heartfelt, truthful songs written in my generation.
I was in my senior year of high school when this was released. I am now middle aged and this is playing in my head a fair amount lately. It burns the heart so differently now, 'someday' has become today, Courtney.
Same. I'm revisiting this album for the first time in years, and wasn't expecting it to hit just as hard as it did 30 years ago- only in a different way. Now off I go to listen to Old Age...
This might be the saddest, most cathartic song I’ve ever heard. We all have pain and this song brings me straight to mine every time I listen to it. I Love it though. It’s an intrinsic part of who I am and even though it hurts, it satiates something tucked away deep in some distant corner of my soul. Music is the best medicine. It’s worth the stick.
Some people are hating on 2016 and the state of music, but in this decade we have all the music of every period in the palm of our hands, literally. Quit hating, the top 40 may suck but you can still listen to 'old' jewels like this one.
The top 40 always sucks compared to whatever underground/indie artists are doing. That's true of every era. Even in 2024 "weird" artists like Poppy, Kim Dracula and Aesthetic Perfection are putting out bangers.
Yeah, ikr? I remember a guy who wasn't interested in me but I was with him. Anyway, all the girls wanted him and he wanted nothing to do with them. So I used to sing Doll Parts because I was hurt by him not wanting me. I used to wish he'd ache like I did. He ended up being in love with another girl but, this time, she didn't want him. Still hope he suffered enough for it. But, yeah, there are a lot of songs on that album that helped me get through a tough period of time in my life too.💯💅🤘✌
This song is such a classic! It’s dark, emotional, melodic and you don’t even have to resonate with the lyrics to feel connected to the song. This is an example of timeless music.
all of the courtney hate really comes from misogyny, slut shaming and such denial about losing their idol to suicide that people forget that they didn’t know him, she did and she lost a whole lot more than they did
I am doll eyes, doll mouth, doll legs I am doll arms, big veins, dog bait Yeah, they really want you They really want you, they really do Yeah, they really want you They really want you, and I do too I want to be the girl with the most cake I love him so much it just turns to hate I fake it so real, I am beyond fake And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache I am doll parts, bad skin, doll heart It stands for knife For the rest of my life Yeah, they really want you They really want you, they really do Yeah, they really want you They really want you, but I do too I want to be the girl with the most cake He only loves those things Because he loves to see them break I fake it so real, I am beyond fake And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache And someday, you will ache like I ache Someday, you will ache like I ache
These words are super, fucking intense. I think I understand what shes feeling and saying. But the part about " you will ache like I ache", I think she means the object of her love, right.? Her " guy". But I wonder, do they ever ache like we ache? Men, or lovers, I mean. They say they hurt too, but why cant we see it then? Why doesnt it seem like they're aching too? At least, I've NEVER seen it. I've wished it on a few, to ache like I do, but somehow I have the feeling they just went about their life. Especially when it's someone " they all want". They dont seem to appreciate that " you do, too." And that maybe you're the only "real" one. Anybody else feelin' that? Thanks for letting me share? Vent? Well, whatever, Court makes me feel better. If someone as beautiful and talented as she is felt this, then, a regular ol' girl like me is screwed!
I used to think this song was about rejection but realized some of it is about her feeling insignificant. I’ve always loved this song. One of my top 10 all time.
Courtney Love wrote the song in the fall of 1991 soon after she met Kurt Cobain, and has admitted that its lyrics were about her insecurity of his romantic interest in her
Favorite Hole track! I was born a little late, in 1990. Wish my teenager years had been in the late 80's, early 90's. Still, I had been listening to punk and grunge since I was 6 or 7, and by my own choice, not because of my parents. Courtney is one of the few that I get to see, that still understands what that was all about. Nice to go back to those sweet days, even if I was too young to appreciate them.
I was also born in 1990 and wish I had been born earlier so that I could have enjoyed this music at the "right" age. But then again, there's always the chance I wouldn't have been into it had I come around at another time. My eldest sister was born in '79 and loved the whole grunge scene, so I mostly got into it when I was about 12 by being nosy in her CD collection. But my older sister was born in '82 and preferred West Coast rap over any of the alternative rock stuff when she was growing up. I could have gone down that road instead lol. I mean, at least we have the Internet so we can enjoy it.
FehrGormenghastTodd I wish I could've born in those years, too, but come on, you've anyways born in a nice music decade, think of... just... how music is in 2015.
FehrGormenghastTodd that is interesting because I was a teenager during those times, (born in 1980) but i always said i was born too late because i loved 80's disco
TimberWolvesX X You hear it with every generation really....although I'm content with having grown up during the 90's for sure - I especially still love the music. For those wishing they were born earlier, enjoy your youth and enjoy the time now as best you can. Because if you were a teen in the 90's you'd be in your 30's now. ;)
Don’t know if you’re old enough to have been around in the early 90’s, but looking back, I realize it was all pure misogyny masked as this or that. Glad to see this woman who’s had a very hard life get the props she truly deserves. Btw, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your name. I’ve been obsessed with mermaids my whole life. Keep up the chutzpah!
@@rebeccarivers9799 I recognized it as misogyny even as a teenager back in the 90s. It made Courtney Love’s rage all the more powerful to me. People just couldn’t handle hearing a woman howl with pain and fury, though they eat it up when a man is doing it. It meant the world to me while coming of age as a girl
I ached like she ached in the end of 1998...got myself a heroin habit for 7 years! Been clean and sober for 6 years...not counting weed though lol love you Courtney❤❤❤❤
Hats off to you. i got a dopesickness of 3 solid years day in/day out (and counting) to come my way. i could have quit today as i didnt have any for this morning. i'm just not ready for that pain yet. so scary.
How Doll Parts was written ->> On the evening of Nov. 6th, 1991, Courtney was in Cambridge, MA for a Hole gig. There, she was told that a woman from the area called herself Kurt's girlfriend and that she was at that very moment with Kurt in London. Kurt and Courtney had just been seeing each other for three weeks. Courtney performed the Hole repertoire but at one point she ignored the setlist and started improvising a new song with the lyrics "I Am" and the same chords from Doll Parts. After the show, Courtney locked herself in the toilet and wrote the lyrics in her arms. At 3 a.m. London time, Kurt's hotel phone rang. It was Courtney asking him if what she had been told was true. Kurt admitted that the woman was indeed in the room with him. The morning after, Kurt told the other woman she couldn't travel on Nirvana's bus anymore. He tried to contact Courtney with no luck. That same day but in the US, Courtney played what is known as Doll Parts. The day after, Nov. 8th, Kurt had his first television appearance on The Word and he started it by saying "I want everyone in this room to know, that Courtney Love, from the sensational pop group Hole, is the best f in the world". Courtney forgave him and sent him a fax to his hotel room with some Doll Parts lyrics "I am doll parts, bad skin, doll hearts, it stands for knife, for the rest of my life, peel my little heart off and soak it in your left hand and call me tonight".
How romantic, for 2 grunge music "greats". I must say that I have been convinced that "doll parts" had been written AFTER Kurt's death. And, the Little boy in the video is KINDA representing KURT, because if the shirts the kid is wearing, it looks like the type of "second hand store" shirts that Kurt wore. PLUS, the little boy is BLONDE like Kurt had been for most of the band NIRVANA"S popular years. Courtney Love has made some really great music with Hole, so, even if MANY people don't like her personally, I can't find fault with her music. AND, after hearing about her so called "father", and how he had been a HORRIBLE parent, and I am NOT saying that Courtney had just said all of this about him. HE has admitted to giving a VERY YOUNG Courtney LSD/ acid, just to see how she would react to it. And, he is a very CALLOUS piece of crap. He has NO GUILT about sending a YOUNG Courtney to school without making sure that she had been "clean". When I was young, I had also been sent to school without being "clean". Courtney had been called "pee Girl" as a result of her going to school without an adult making sure that she would bathe often. And when I was young, my mom worked many hours, and my dad wasn't always mentally "right", so, IF nobody had told me to go and take a bath, or shower, me, being a kid, I didn't care to wash up. I was about age 7-9 back then. Being dirty was NOT anything to be worried about to me.
It was *written* late 1991 after C & K had just met, an acoustic version recorded Nov '91 for John Peel's show - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 version recorded later for an album released a week after Kurt's death, the 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 was filmed late 1994 / 6 months 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 Kurt died. Obviously the kid is meant to represent Kurt.
@@TheMercury-13 Sheesh, I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been to film this video after his death. Poor Courtney, you can really feel it in her performance.
Superb album, under rated, great voice, so emotional and of its time. Great to find it again, need to find this CD in the attic, it deserves to be listened to again.
Had she been a man she wouldn’t have gotten half of the hate she got and still gets today. There never has been and there never will be another Courtney. The queen.
@@ev4742 me too, 100%. I saw her play Lollapalooza in ‘95 and it rocked my world; her foot up on that amp, just shredding and screaming. She was everything a rock star should be and I’ve loved her ever since. Such a fuckin’ bad ass.
Women in general will always get blamed for a troubled man's choices sadly. I hate that people blame Courtney for Kurt's problems that he's already had before he met her
I’m so happy that there’s that group (small amount of us it seems at times) of awesome people that actually fkn get it. I believe the same sentiments. If Courtney were a man, she’d be praised for everything she’s done in her life. She’d be the honoured rockstar. Anyway she’s always intrigued me - more so than Kurt in all honesty. Courtney always stayed true to herself and was always honest about everything she struggled with and overcame. She speaks with such intelligence it’s like her mind buzzes a mile a minute - most people can’t keep up. Her charisma is truly one of a kind. I feel like the media also did her real dirty. Fkers really ate her alive - ridiculed her to sell magazines and shit for decades. Kurt would’ve been so disgusted with how the world treated his wife. Everything he believed and stood for - people (even so called fans) turned around and did exactly what he despised. All these conspiracies and shit... It’s easier to blame others than to believe the truth
I just recently started listening to Courtney, I really like her songs, I feel like not a lot of artists show themselves as vulnerable as she does, and so I admire her for that a lot.
I’m 15 and I love Hole and Babes in Toyland and Nirvana and all those bands. Been into it for awhile thanks to my mom who grew up listening to these bands as a young teen in the 90s. I wish I lived through this era. Now it’s hard to find kids my age who can relate to this music
When it's real, it shows. You can hear it in their voice and see it in their eyes. I can almost always tell when someone has weathered some storms, as I too have.
It seems like whenever there is a beloved male celebrity, his wife is always unfairly hated. Yoko, Courtney, hell even Kevin Smith’s wife is hated by his fans. I don’t know how these women put up with this, but they are very strong.
Love her, or hate her: this album is perfect from start to finish.
Maybe because she stole it from Kurts unfinished materials and various journals.

There’s something about the angsty sound of 90’s music that really hits home
One of the best decades for music. I liked the 90s better than the 80s.
Heroin. Sad but true.

💙💙💙

"Someday you will ache like I ache" - almost like a mantra. How powerful, how emotionally deep
The reason we feel this way is because we arecut off from God by our sins against Him. Here is the roadmap to show how you and everyone can find Him.
Site Map
We’re all explorers in unfamiliar territory. How do you find the way? You read the map.
THE WORLD IS DESIGNED
Look at your hand.
THE DESIGNER IS PERSONAL
Out of nothing, nothing comes.
THE DESIGNER IS MORAL
We all know right from wrong.
THE DESIGNER IS ETERNAL
Once you’ve followed these signs, you realize that the Designer who really exists-who really created the world and life-must be an eternal, all-powerful, all-wise, moral being. A local designer won’t do. Otherwise, truth would only be true locally, and right would only be right locally. The universe must have an unchanging, timeless reference point. That eternal reference point is your next signpost.
THE DESIGNER IS ONE
Ancient religions that taught polytheism (lots of gods) ended up telling stories of those gods fighting each other. They could never say who made all the gods. Even their chief gods were said to emerge from the void. No; the universe has one, and only one, Master Architect.
THE DESIGNER COMMUNICATES
Humans are communicative beings. Keep in mind these directions: “turn right at the light.”
THE BIBLE IS THAT COMMUNICATION
There are many holy books in the world, but there is only one that is rooted in history: the Bible.
THE BIBLE FORETOLD A SAVIOR
From the first book (Genesis) to the arrival of Jesus, the Bible foretold a day when the Lord would visit His people and wash away their sins.
JESUS CHRIST IS THAT SAVIOR
Not only did Jesus fulfill dozens of prophecies about the coming Savior, He rose from the dead.
JESUS CHRIST CALLS YOU TO REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS
The message of Jesus Christ is to repent of your sins and believe the gospel. Pray something like this, meaning it sincerely:
“Lord Jesus, I know you are my Creator. Amen.”
THE WALK OF FAITH
Christ followers begin a walk of faith.
A LIFE OF SERVICE
Before we meet in heaven, what on earth are you doing for Christ’s sake? God gives every one of His followers gifts and talents to use for building up His family, the church. Find out what your gifts are and use them to serve the Lord and help others. You can be part of fulfilling Christ’s prayer, “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
From now on, your life will be an adventure of faith, walking with the Lord, with His Spirit dwelling within you to guide you. As missionary William Carey said (and proved true in his life), “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
May God bless this to your hearts.
That's what old Biff Tannen tells younger Biff Tannen in 1955.

“I had to write most of the lyrics on my arm in sharpie as I ran out of paper,” she continued. Not sure but supposedly he represents Kurt Cobain
maybe he’s representing kurt… or it’s Courtney in her childhood. Maybe she felt like a boy bc her mom never allowed her to wear girly clothes, take ballet lessons and play with dolls and stuff.. Idc just the thought that crossed my mind when i saw this image
Also in my opinion ,,doll parts” is about comparing to other women when it comes to rivality in realationships. Some people are hating on 2016 and the state of music, but in this decade we have all the music of every period in the palm of our hands, literally. Quit hating, the top 40 may suck but you can still listen to 'old' jewels like this one.
and now here we are with people in 2024 wishing the charts were anything remotely like 2016
The top 40 always sucks compared to whatever underground/indie artists are doing. That's true of every era. Even in 2024 "weird" artists like Poppy, Kim Dracula and Aesthetic Perfection are putting out bangers.

Whole album is like a existential catharsis. And a masterpiece. Met her briefly in a skin doctor's office. She's still loony but a rare talent.
Imagine loosing the one you cared for the most and getting blamed for it
all of the courtney hate really comes from misogyny, slut shaming and such denial about losing their idol to suicide that people forget that they didn’t know him, she did and she lost a whole lot more than they did
She was under rated and unfairly maligned.
Alex Jones made a lot of $ doing that
Been down that road many times, i hated it and still do
after he wrote u a pretty good album
People forget just how talented Courtney is. Such a beautiful tortured voice.

Thanks to Kurt Cobain.
It's not only her that needs the appreciation. All members of this band is what makes it awesome. They rocked so much and had awesome albums.
I fully agree with this. Everyone played an important part in this band. Patti Schemel is amazing!

So much sadness! Beautiful ❤️

Courtney is a true rock goddess. I just cannot help but love her.. She's brilliant.
yeees!
This songs really shows me dark parts of myself at this moment in my life. It speaks for me. The pain, the rage, the loneliness. Thank you Courtney
It's great bc it's relieving to know that these feelings happen to everyone and that's a-ok!
Great song. So poetic.

Doll Parts is one of my favorite songs from back when I was a teenager love this song. True classic rock 90s song.
I fell in love with this song as an angry emotional 15 year old and now I'm 34 and still love it ,Hole at their best ❤
Only she can sing this song and do it justice. Wrote it, felt it, relayed. I hear it in her voice. Nobody else.
FehrGormenghastTodd Same here, the feelings and I'm from te 91.
Because if you were a teen in the 90's you'd be in your 30's now. ;)
I love her anger and emotion in this song.
Man I'm just tripping on this song. So much going on emotionally. What an underrated song. Absolutely classic.
Hole will always have a special place in my heart ❤
Dam right!
I want to be the girl with most cake
Nothing beats this original version. I've been listening to Courtney since the 90's..no one matches her rage and nihilistic sadness.
The best cover is Miley Cyrus’. But this whole album cannot be replicated
"Nihilistic sadness..." Perfectly-stated.
* oye!
This album was great front to back...
Auggie T. Stfu. One of those dumb teenagers who think they know everything about Kurt. He was human. Not a god. You are a child

doesn't seem like it's been 20+ years since this came out. My mom hated this song I used to blast it. high school memories the 90's rocked man!
This song is so relatable when you understand the lyrics
isn't it that way with everything though?

This was a good music video but the song is timeless. The song never gets old because CL put so much emotion into it.
When I listen to grunge, I can’t help but think that this was the final era of rock music so far. All the radio plays is r&b, hip hop and pop.
Listen to Kexp from Seattle…..things have not really changed
''Some day you will ache like I ache,'' I totally agree. I love this song..
I love her... I know she gets a ton of hate... I love her and understand.
Mermaid Moxie Yes. i’ve been saying this forever it refreshing to see someone else say it! xoxo
I love her too, she's a great artist.
@@rebeccarivers9799 Yes- I came to adulthood in 1992. Much love to you.
The whole EP just keeps coming back into my head. The soundtrack to all my personal apocalypses. Thanks Courtney.
This song is so well written, and Courtney sings it beautifully. It just emanates pain.

"he only loves those things because he loves to see them break"
I thought it came out after too
It was *written* late 1991 after C & K had just met, an acoustic version recorded Nov '91 for John Peel's show - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 version recorded later for an album released a week after Kurt's death, the 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 was filmed late 1994 / 6 months 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 Kurt died. Obviously the kid is meant to represent Kurt.
@@TheMercury-13 Sheesh, I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been to film this video after his death. Poor Courtney, you can really feel it in her performance.
they were so toxic for each other
Superb album, under rated, great voice, so emotional and of its time. Great to find it again, need to find this CD in the attic, it deserves to be listened to again.
This song is so deep & dreery..It's awesome!!!
Had she been a man she wouldn’t have gotten half of the hate she got and still gets today. There never has been and there never will be another Courtney. The queen.
That's the truth, she even is blamed by her husband's suicide, sick society and its double standards... Just why Kurt hated the most
Amen. Most of the anti-Courtney Love bullshit is pure distilled misogyny. She’s a fucking rock goddess - my #1 female artist of all time. Hands down.
I can listen to this song a million times over, and it never loses meaning to me. That's why I know this song is not only beautiful, but powerful.

Because she is a murderer
When it's real, it shows. You can hear it in their voice and see it in their eyes. I can almost always tell when someone has weathered some storms, as I too have.
It seems like whenever there is a beloved male celebrity, his wife is always unfairly hated. Yoko, Courtney, hell even Kevin Smith’s wife is hated by his fans. I don’t know how these women put up with this, but they are very strong.
