Especially during the night life.....oh! This is probably common around the world, but don't be scammed by the locals selling Fijian artifacts. Have a local help you out. Vinaka, bruss.

THIS IS SUVA! I'm visiting FIji's capital, which has a sad reputation of being among the top two most dangerous cities in the Oceania region. This is my experience in Suva. Would you visit?
@tyrelmcallister, like all other countries, we got our own hidden monsters in the form of pick pockets and crack dope sellers, but in the 90s and early 2000, at night, you will never encounter any such things . I attended an primary school in Suva, and one night after our graduation, me and a couple of friends of mine were seen walking around downtown trying to head to the main transit terminal, right when we passed an major nightclub, a lady was with a group of bouncers and saw us. She was very much like a mother to us, over protective and inquiring why we were out so late, we let her know why and she let us go. She had wanted to pay for our taxi fare but we insisted on walking. Now, night crimes increased because of the selfish policies and corruption by the previous government under bainimara for almost 15 years. Even his son was known be closely associated with some Drug lords and even was having an affair with one of their wives. Because of his son, drug lords had things their way and justice was nonexistent..that, I think, what turned Suva as a mad house. But Suva isn’t as bad as other countries, not even in comparison to Sydney Australia even though they got good law enforcement and rule of law, but I have to say, with the new government in place, things are heading towards the right direction. As we speak, bainimara and his crook former chief of police is in prison, and for the third time his son is charged for domestic violence.
Isa, the beauty of Viti is displayed here right in this clip! There will always be a few shady characters in every city, but the majority of Fijian people are exactly like you experienced in this clip, more than willing to help, connect and speak with a stranger 🙂
There are snakes in Fiji mind you, and they've been kept well under control by mongoose. The one snake that's common is the pacific boa and it's totally harmless.
It's usually fine during the day. It's at night when you gotta be careful. You'll have opportunists who might pick pocket or snatch and run. But like most cities, you just have to be mindfull and not take your safety for granted.
I want to laugh. I'm from Fiji and seeing someone do videos like this is funny. One that river goes right to the ocean at the back, where the market side is. But that river does smell when you get too close to it. I see that you're staying closer to the town than the others. Try visiting the schools next...lol
To all the people who wish to travel to Suva for a visit it's a safe place to go to and the locals are very friendly. Lots of restaurants and cafes that offer delicious food and drinks and enjoy the night life with our very own chilled Fiji Gold beer. Bula!!!
Kudos to the young chap for taking time out from his job to show you around ... that right there is Fijian hospitality. He was 100% right ... do not step out at night, and certainly NOT after 8pm in Suva.
Gosh what's itching your common sense? For a foreigner it's expected to be a danger for them because they become targets by these street boys and con artists.
I’ve been to Fiji to visit my family and for me Fiji is pretty peaceful sometimes but sometimes things can happen. One of my family members live in the villages of Fiji and they said that this guy will just walk in and take their food and walk out. Btw the police are usually pretty lazy my brother learned how to drive a truck at a young age near the city without any problems. Anyways yea there’s what I have to say.
Unfortunately suva ain’t the safest place for tourists. Just last night 23/06/24 at 9pm I was robbed by five local guys. They approached me pretending to be friendly and all of a sudden one of them locked my arms while the others tried to grab my iPhone and other stuff from my pockets. When I resisted and shouted for help they threw two fierce punches right at my face and left chest. Luckily I managed to hold on to my iPhone. The cowards ran away when an Indian Fijian man ran from his house to assist me coz the incident happened right in front of his house at Macfarlane road in kia street. People who did horrendous acts like this brings nothing but shame to Fiji and spoil the reputation of Suva city.
Suva, the capital of Fiji, is not typically ranked among the top two most dangerous cities in Oceania. Cities such as Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea are more commonly cited for high crime levels in the region. Suva does experience some challenges related to theft, property crime, and occasional violence, but it is not considered among the most dangerous compared to other cities in Oceania.
