Could not agree more, I have never once regretted my purchase of Davini Resolve even though I possess meat and potatoes editing skills..😊 I absolutely adore the program and the company. And your videos have been a tremendous help !! Great vid!
Great video Alex. I hope people take your advice and start using Davinci Resolve. I've gotten by with the free version and have you mostly to thank for getting over a lot of the initial training hump almost 6 years ago, and I never ran into a limitation for the content I produce. Our friend Daniel Batal gifted me a speed editor with a Studio license, and I'm getting into a lot of those new to me features and can't wait to learn more.
Thanks MrAlex, your videos are great - the pace, the level of detail, and your overall presentation style are hugely watchable and very informative. Overall I'm happy with Davinci Resolve and plan to stick with it: I am confident it can do pretty much everything I want to do - if I can figure out how to do it. That's a big if though! Let's face it, some stuff which feels like it ought to be relatively straightforward is surprisingly complex to achieve, and to me at least, not very intuitive. I recently wanted to do one of those effects where there's an animation of a route drawn on top of a map. It took me about two hours to figure it out, and there was a lot of trial and error getting the settings right. I just wish there were a few more templates / shortcuts for what seem like common patterns like that.
By the way, I came across your podcast on Spotify and ended up binge-listening over the weekend. You and Casey have great chemistry, and it’s just so enjoyable to listen to you. Keep it coming! ;)
Switched to Davinci about 10 months ago. Knew nothing, from videos like these I can now crank out youtube videos. Admittedly I have tons more to learn. Couple things I wish to see would be quick go to's for us TH-cam guys......such as drawing arrows and circles, etc on screen.....being able to just tell Fairlight I wan't this video to -14 LUFS like I can in Adobe Audition, several other things, but I could go on. I'm sticking with Davinci. Will upgrade sometime soon to the Studio version.
You are too modest Alex. You didn't include that one best reason, why now is the right time to switch, are the super informative instructional videos from yourself. 🙂 Top Man.
Kind - and true, Alex.Your videos have helped me overcome some initial hurdles, and I find the DVR community overall to be incredibly supportive and unique.
I've used Resolve (Studio) for a long time, but, THIS video highlighted some things I didn't know I always had (ducking, auto audio leveling, remix?!). Having a high-level feature list video, like a topic list, is very helpful - thanks! (will be referring this vid to friends/family)
Thanks Alex for your explanations, you make the approach to a program like this exciting and approachable, which I would say is not at all simple. I'm working with the free version but I intend to buy a speed editor that will help me speed up the editing and have the Studio version of DVR. Thanks again.
5:31 is really a gamechanger. Another pro-tip: you can stack two timelines together to make it easier for you to create trailers out of long podcasts or movies. 😉
Great video. This reinforces my plan to switch from CyberLink PowerDirector to Davinci Resolve before the PowerDirector license expires. I'll use the free version of Davinci Resolve until the missing stuff annoys me too much. So far it's just limited multi-screen support.
Pretty much sums it up. I switched from capcut about 4 months ago and don't regret it at all. Yes, it is quite complex compared to capcut, but the features are almost limitless.
Yeah, even though I was pretty knowledgable in CapCut, the fact that more and more features are moved to the subscription model, I switched. Even as a total beginner in Davinci Resolve, after a few weeks I decided to get the Studio version. So far did not regret it and doubt I ever will.
@@inmmaWhat arena? CapCut is by far the most used NLE, with Premiere Pro in second place. In Indie movies, PP is probably the most used NLE but in Hollywood, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro and probably still Sony Vegas Pro, are the most used NLEs. But almost all uses Avid. So, it really depends on the market.
Another great video Alex, you are one of the primary reasons we chose to switch to Davinci and get the studio version. Your tutorials have helped take our video podcast to the next level where post production is concerned :)
Hi, I have been using Davinci Resolve since ver15 & I really enjoy it. There is a step learning curve, especially fusion, so anyone new to DR should not expert to create a Hollywood block buster in a week! One of my reasons for switching to DR was the quality of the teaching material on TH-cam, such as Mr Alex.
I did the change a few years ago and have not regretted the move . Never stop learning using davinci resolve , I am considering buying studio in the near future as well.
I think one big change we must have in resolve auto match beat like that we have in capcut , I think it's not hard to have this feature in davinci and i hope we can have this in newer updates it will save alot of time and it's headache to deal with the timeline without auto beat match
I’ve grown to love DVR. At first, I was overwhelmed, but now I’m amazed by all the possibilities. I still have a long way to go to properly learn DVR, but now I’m hooked. The only thing that’s really challenging for me is how resource-intensive it is. I’d love to create more motion graphics, but my PC can’t handle it - it just crashes. It’s time for powerful hardware...
Hi Alex, is Version 19 more demanding in terms of computer resources? With a i7 laptop, can Version 19 run as nice as with Version 18, or not? What's your opinion?
Editing by text works extremely well -- it has sync issues with variable frame rate footage however, so the results are better with proper intermediate codecs or raw codecs, but that's pretty minor caveat once you know about it. All you have to do is transcode your cell phone footage to DNxHR or ProRes and then transcribe the clip before you edit by text.
u dont need convince me. i started with resolve. but can u convive the film industry. now i have to force my self to learn Pr. How can i go bac after spending soo much time in resolve
The best video editor ever. After 15 years adobe premiere and now since 1,5 years, davinci resolve studio i will never will go back to adobe. great video THX
Was hesitant at first due to the fact a lot of studios use adobe. But then most work is better pay as a freelancer so it does not matter. Plus I like that you can collaborate with the cloud.
Davinci is still missing some features that Capcut offers (I started on Davinci and still use it). But caption animation and stuff would be great. Things that would enable quick everyday edits to be hassle free.
Maybe you could do a tutorial about to use transcription to cut silence, but with some tips when you record "mistakes". I mean happens to say something wrong, so you repeat it, but the transcription/cut silence doesn't works as expected. Even if the transcription find the right words, in my experience (just tried it out) it cutted out the second attempt (the correct one) leaving the first/wrong one. Maybe is just a bug or something that still doesn't works as expected, but if you have any tip would be very helpful and a huge time saving. Thank you for your videos and effects, you are very helpful and your video are also enjoyable!
Hey Alex, one thing (at least for me) is the transcriptions don't great for me. I think the reason why is I am one of those people who shoots tutorials or art product reviews and then does the VO. So when I put all my clips in the order I want them, I edit the video around the voice clips which means I record some VO in audacity and bring it in bit by bit. I think this is meant to be a longer file that Davinci has time to properly analyze.
Hey i didn't understand what you said but i also kind of do the same I mean voice over then editing. But I'm curious why you need to record you voice in audacity? Isn't resolve good enough? I wonder
Do you have a video on the Blackmagic Cloud setup for syncing proxies only etc? I would love to have a setup like that, as I often sit in different locations for my work. Sometimes on a satellite office, sometimes home, sometimes even in my car. Thank you!
I feel sad that I already have Resolve Studio now Alex. This video would convince me to switch to Resolve and get Studio. It is certainly a worthwhile investment. I'm also happy to inform you that the resent releases have been much faster on AMD GPU's which used to struggle a little. 👍
I desperately want to switch, I’ve used Premiere for years as my job and hate the Adobe model. It’s just a shame that the edit page in Davinci doesn’t quite stack up to Premiere’s effect controls. I have macros that speed up my editing hugely, and if I can find a way to bring it over, I’d love to leave Adobe behind.
I fully agree. Blackmagic is just a lot more user-friendly and they provide so much for starter editors. Also, I just want to say thank you for all you've done for us editors and Davinci as a whole. If it weren't for you, my edits would be a lot harder and take 10x longer. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
Hi, maybe here i will find answer - the facial refinement is not working on mac studio properly - operating mode "beauty automatic" is not working at all :( cant find any answer and clue.
I’m gonna stick with Final Cut Pro. I tried resolve and premiere but I just edit faster with the magnetic timeline. I tried getting used to the resolve cut page but it feels like it’s missing a dimension of movement, and the regular page is just like premiere in terms of editing speed Once you learn how to magnetic timeline you can’t go back
11:38 min. but if you only got 1 license? you need to write your number down. activate/deactivate on multiple devices. only 2 at same time. Am i right?
I use Resolve but wish it was like Vegas so I can smoosh two clips together for a dissolve or fade. Or just drop transition between two clips without having to trim them first. Or press one button on keyboard to make a cut. Resolve has a killer render sizes but because it is a pro tool, it take more effort to do simple things.
Agreed in my experience when it comes to basic editing and video splicing Vegas can run circles round DRS on low end hardware. Before I started with DRS about 2019 my pc could handly 6xFHDx6 hours video streams without issues, DRS needed proxies. Heck even editors like Kdenlive were way more responsive not needing proxies.
A delivery of our videos to viewers does not only depend on how fast you edit. It in most part depends on how fast DaVinci renders the project into a file. If you use Super Scale feature for 3 hour project it will be rendered approximately 1% an hour which equals 4.5 days. But this is not it. Then TH-cam takes over. To process the uploaded video would take ... forever, starting from approx 15-20 hours. But the funniest thing with TH-cam is when the estimated processing time has passed, you'll enjoy watching 3 messages under Video quality icons: Still processing. And this "still processing" may last forever indeed, or simply unknown amount of time.
wow ! i didnt' know you can get the studion version if you buy some hardware from them... not factoring in a camera; what would be some good hardware recs you suggest? i do plan to buy the studio version but if i can get it with some hardware might as well do that instead too lol
Could you help me with black screen problem in new update, I tried what you said in earlier video but that doesn't work .and when I have to add a strip in the bottom of vertical video it doesn't come on the bottom it stuck in middle
i'm having issues with timecoding in the new version. i auto sync using timecode, it throws my timecode audio within the video and includes the zoom f8n audio I recorded to as the track BEFORE the video. It's weird.
Yes it can, I'm a resolve fan however I'll admit AE is much better and easy if you do motion graphics, but if your goal is vfx you definitely want to switch resolve. It's not like motion graphics isn't possible in resolve, it's just not that intuitive like AE. But i still love resolve.
I am stock at 18.6. My Asus laptop with 16 gb ram Will not run the 19. I try install the 19 but have to downgrade to 18.6 😢 but its okay for me to run the version 18.6 ❤
I just start watching the video but before I start I just want to say that every software have its pros and cons. There are things that people gonna love on both sides whatever it is Adobe or Davinci Resolve. So still there is no perfect software with all the features and things.
Switching to Davinci Resolve has been good for a long time. Adobe is greedy for money. That's why you have to change. However, Davinci Resolve is even better.
0:23 - 0:30, 09:50 - Which is why I haven't bothered with Davinci Studio in over 18 months. Just too buggy. Too many audio issues, I do test it with each new update though. When your final audio differs to what you hear in edit and therefore have to do a manual screenrecording of the edit page and mux it into your final video how can you trust the render pipeline? Edit should ALWAYS EQUAL final product, otherwise whats the point of editing?! And that was just with basic h264 video, wave audio > h264, wave. When a free video editor can do it faster in terms of responsiveness and reliability there's a major problem. For compositing work fine use DRS. In saying that I love your content and videos - I just wish DRS weren't so buggy and it's not my HW It's bugs in their pipeline with largish content. Memory leaks. One of my friends also does editing for satellite tele in Africa, they used exclusively DRS, switched to a free editor due to performance and intermediary format issues with basic editing and they have threadrippers with high end cards.
I bought the full version, but every time I try to use it, I'm appalled at how inefficient it is, both in speed and workflow, to Capcut. It may be good for professional users with high demands, lots of training, and fast hardware. But it barely runs on my notebook, taking half an hour to export a two minute TH-cam short, something that Capcut does in about two minutes. Yes, the resulting chroma key is not as good, but with a daily video to post on my channel, I need something quick and easy to use that will let me publish my video and start on the next one every single day, without having to pay thousands for a high end GPU. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not for everyone. Depending on one's needs and resources, a simple solution can sometimes be better than some theoretical killer app that just doesn't get the job done.
I'm completely Disagree with you But I'm respect your decision for a switch video edit software, I'm premiere User i have a Interested To Try davinci resolve some day
With all due respect, I don't use DRS regularly anymore due to long standing bugs and the need to push new features despite not fixing old issues...however how can you disagree with Alex if you haven't tried DRS? It has lots of fanfare for a good reason.
@ hi ok -sorry! Would you consider making a explainer video about a specific challenge within Fairlight? That is Automatically importing and Syncing field recorder multi track iso recordings to a picture edit which used the field mixers mixed guide track, allowing for a finished broadcast mix! Peter
Still doesn't have great support on Linux. Installation is a nightmare. Maybe if they offered a Debian installer so the software could be properly sandboxed. .deb please.
MrAlexTech, to put it simply, DaVinci 19 Free is better than DaVinci 16 paid was. You get more with the free version of 19 than you did with the 16 paid version.
79, not exactly prolific. You are. And, I’ve been a loyal subscriber, and joined your group. I started with Free, went Studio with the Speed Editor option around ver 18. Was a donation more than a need. Great value donation, for me. Don’t even recognize some of the screens you showed…still a newb obviously. Still trying to establish the workflow for me. You help a lot. It’s not an easy program. Not for the faint of heart, but the rewards are great! Thanks for the enormous library of truly helpful videos. My request to you is to slow down the delivery for the things that might be difficult, for us slightly new types. It’s a very comprehensive program, and I only use a tiny bit. But, you do have a habit of opening my eyes, for which I thank you. 🇨🇦
Use the free version, and every time you do, put some money into a jar… treat that as a payment for use… and over time it will build up! Also, the need for the full version… if you are creating stuff, are you charging for it? If so… into the jar! Small amounts soon build up, so plan ahead and best of luck!

Could you help me with black screen problem in new update, I tried what you said in earlier video but that doesn't work .and when I have to add a strip in the bottom of vertical video it doesn't come on the bottom it stuck in middle
Caption editing is still a pain tho. Gonna take me ages to finish in resolve vs capcut!
i'm having issues with timecoding in the new version. i auto sync using timecode, it throws my timecode audio within the video and includes the zoom f8n audio I recorded to as the track BEFORE the video. It's weird.
This won't mean much to many people but I like to think of Alex as the Kenny Gioia of Resolve...
Can Resolve do stuff you can do in Adobe After Effects?

Totally agree!
Switching to Davinci Resolve has been good for a long time. Adobe is greedy for money. That's why you have to change. However, Davinci Resolve is even better.
The best thing I did was leave Premier and learn Davinci Resolve. Studio owner now. No Regrets
5:06 Will it translate as well or just transcribe in the same language?
Only transcribe. But you can use free software like Subtitle Edit (by Nikse), to translate.
Free version does not work with 10-bit footage.
I've been using free version for my small TH-cam channel, it looks like paid version is worth. I'm going to buy the controller for it.
agree with everything from arch linux ❤❤
How can you time the Remixer stems? No Keyframes
Just cut the music track up, and then use a crossdissolve.
@@MrAlexTech Thank You!
🥰 i like Alex videos
I like your comments :)
Just fyi at 4.09 your camera colour has picked up the grade from the b roll!
Hey! That was intentional to show the Magic Mask tracking.
@ hi ok -sorry!
Would you consider making a explainer video about a specific challenge within Fairlight?
That is
Automatically importing and Syncing field recorder multi track iso recordings to a picture edit which used the field mixers mixed guide track, allowing for a finished broadcast mix!

Even the name DaVinci is something special 😃
More native free effect and assets like textrure, lightleak etc.
i would love to get the studio version if they gave the option to pay in smaller chunks. its a bit much for me to pay in one go sadly
Use the free version, and every time you do, put some money into a jar… treat that as a payment for use… and over time it will build up! Also, the need for the full version… if you are creating stuff, are you charging for it? If so… into the jar! Small amounts soon build up, so plan ahead and best of luck!
i heard audiio was an israelli military operation, is that true alex ?
Whut?! 😂
@@MrAlexTech audiio is owned by motion array who are owned by.. who is a contractor for...
the first rule of business is to know who you are doing business with Alex.
Artlist, an Israeli digital content licensing company, and its subsidiary Motion Array, are privately owned entities with no known affiliations to military organizations. Their primary focus is on providing creative assets such as royalty-free music, sound effects, and stock footage for content creators. While Artlist features music from various artists, including historical recordings like those of the Victor Military Band, these are curated for their artistic value and are not indicative of any military association.
@@TechRealityGlasgow nice copy and paste
"By way of deception you shall engage in war." is their motto, so im sure they will be honest about who they are and who they do business with.
Look at the people at the top, the tipity top. Its eye opening.
They updated their motto to "Without deception, a nation falls." which is the same thing but different.
In 2020 motion array listed their HO in tel aviv and now they are pretending to be based in the USA. They may have a postal address there but thats all it is, a post box.
artlist, motion array and audiio are an interesting group of companies indeed.
I mean everyone should buy the speed editor right and get it for free 😬 instead of just buying the software right??
Honestly the speed editor is barely 100$ so either way whether you buy just the studio or with a controller it's still the same, nothing is free.
The Speed editor has some annoying design quirks, pairing and not being able to switch it off resulting in a stuffed up battery being some of them.
It's criminal how much of what BM gives us for FREE and the paid version blows it out of the water as a ONE time fee
Get a m series and go DaVinci
Basically a love letter to Blackmagic Design
sure sure... at the time adobe has just introduced some groundbreaking AI for video editing and the rest of the suite... resolve is soooo behind... free, yeah sure... but definitely behind lol
Hi Alex keen to buy soon some gear from you to get Davinci 19 for free! - only if you ship the gear to NZ without additional cost ;)
I quit Premiere Pro for Resolve. Resolve is a significantly more powerful program. Really not sure how much longer I'll carry on with the Adobe money grab.
Thumbs up for davinci resolve
👍
"and you're not being bled dry every single month for the privilege to do so" 🔥
👍❤
I still hope it will arrive on android
ONLY 2GB for $5 a month? BlackMagic's Cloud better make that 2TB to make it worth anyone's while...
You want 2Tb for $5? 😄
Resolve is insane 🥹, I wish I could get the studio version tho 🥹🥹🥹😫😫😫
