I think Rocketlab will be the next SpaceX. And they are a public company, so you can invest in them now. They have made tremendous progress since the company started. They now have a reliable small launch vehicle for custom orbit missions for small sat customers. They have either started or purchased numerous satellite engineering divisions, which include power, propulsion, and avionics, so they are a one stop shop for customers wanting a head start for satellite development.
And Neutron looks like it will be a worthy competitor to the Falcon 9. By reusing the the booster and fairings, and employing a bare bones, economical upper stage, they have a winning combination. Even though Stokes Space is going for full re-usability, Rocket Lab has quite a lead on most competitors other than SpaceX. I am a proud investor.
They are a good up and coming company.
But not the same potential. Or goals
I still think its a test tanker for the orbital refuelling test.
Those astronauts are truly brave, if they are willing to ride on Starliner with it's less than stellar track record. Not to mention that at this point I wouldn't feel safe even on a Boeing plane.
They care more about the safety on the Starliner than the airplanes at least. But I'd much rather ride with SpaceX than Boeing

I'm not sure they care that much. Starliner had serious issues on every test so far, yet they are still going forward with the crewed mission. Dragon has been tested far more thoroughly and every demo flight was flawless (as far as we know).
If they prioritize safety, they should test it until it's flawless, and then repeat it a few more times to ensure reliability.
And even then, the earlier issues suggest serious organizational issues, no to mention their planes. That could introduce fatal flaws on any flight.
They are on the same path that lead to the loss of Challenger and Columbia.
Yesterday my wife and I flew on a Boeing plane (737?) for 1 1/2 hours. There were no evident problems. 😱
All this hysteria over Boeing! Guess what major aircraft manufacturer has the best safety record per air miles flown? There are a LOT of Boeing aircraft in service. Most of the issues that have been hitting the news, like engine fires, gear collapse and open hatches are maintenance problems with airlines. Have there been some recent quality issues needing attention? Yes. But unless you see the FAA ground aircraft like the 737 Max 8 a few years ago, these are isolated incidents. All this news is making Boeing sound like Fox News coverage of local crime, playing the same incidents on a loop, trying to convince viewers of a crime wave. While in reality rates of crime have actually been dropping nationally.
@@andrasbiro3007 IN all fairness to Boeing, the issue this time round was with the rocket.
Ship 26 - simplest explanation, they find it convenient to have a full size mockup to test components on. I doubt it will ever lift off and may one day find a place beside Starhopper or possibly a resting near Starfactory.
It will almost certainly be scrapped
Makes sense, they don't have to worry about scratching the paint on a real ship just to test infrastructure.
I do not believe the heat tiles had any impact on the failed re entry, it is a problem with controlling the ship and getting the right angle and stability for a controlled re entry.
The fact that attitude control was the primary reason for the failed re-entry does not mean that the tiles would not have been the issue otherwise. Noting NASA's own problems with re-entry (albeit at a much more taxing speed), I would argue it's more likely than not that you'll see some tile performance issues on IFT-4.
Attitude control certainly was an issue, but heat tiles are still unproven. We can't rule out heat tile failure points or design flaws until reentry trial by fire.
@@mr.g937 the tiles were too expensive and fragile for sure, but they never really caused problems with the reentry, even with 700+ damaged tiles.
Honestly the tiles really worried me... but it the ship was reentering for a long time without them, so them falling off doesn't seem like it'll fail reentry... however does require more refurbishment than "rapid".
@@johnd.7792 my understanding is that the angle of re entry affects the heat created, it also appears that the last ship entered engine’s first, not the way its meant to re enter, this was because they intended to slow it down and then turn the ship as it started re entry. However they lost control of the engines and then the ship just spun. There does seem to be a fuel management problem in both vessels. One snag being that these are produced before they have completed any significant flights so its hard to replace, they gave to modify already existing craft, I guess tgere will be a huge change in tge design around the middle of next year.

Felix has always had a good sense of humor I enjoy and I think he just keeps getting funnier. He's such a great personality as well as a very intelligent and smart host. Thanks Felix! I'm not gonna plug anybody else's TH-cam science channel here but, I will say the good news is that Felix is among a good number of other science show hosts on TH-cam who are also great. This is something I'm enormously grateful for because the science shows on TV have either vanished or very badly produced. I'm thrilled there are shows like this on TH-cam, you provide great content that's great not just for me but society as a whole. Doubtfull. It lacks lot of hardware that would be necessary for serving as orbital depot, as insulation, power generation, probably some kind of cooling system. Orbital depot will look different
Ship 26 might be a tanker ship. No need for tiles or flaps if it stays in orbit. A lunar lander would require landing legs and probably thrusters up high to reduce blowing so much regolith around when landing on the Moon.
I wonder if Ship 26 might be a testing and training article? Testing new processes, such as the new engine installation stand, when it was new, the new static fire test stand, etc. Maybe it serves as a training aid for new SpaceX technicians, and might be a test bed for doing something new, before committing to doing it on the next prototype?

ABSOLUTELY miss the rustic tank watching days! Being only meters (even FEET in some cases) away from the flight hardware was such a magical experience!!! However, the thing I love about SpaceX is they are constantly looking and pushing forward. In order to do that they need to protect the hardware, keep it out of the salt air, and unfortunately that means out of our view as well. Push FORWARD SpaceX and make up for the missed views by giving us even more awesome views from flight and orbital tests!

I’ve never heard anyone say we COULDN’T build the pyramids, just that only recently could we match the scale and precision. The interstate highway system in the US moved approximately the same amount of materials approximately the same distance. It took 40 years to complete with trucks and heavy equipment. The precision was only fully grasped when the GPS system was operational. The great pyramids base is aligned to the rotational pole at least as accurately as we can achieve with GPS. The error is less than 1/4” over a quarter mile. The interior stones are square to the same tolerances we use for modern engines, but they are granite blocks that weigh as much as three cars.
We COULD build the pyramids, but it would be a HUGE undertaking even today.
@@dextermorgan1 it's stainless steel...and weighs 5,000 tons. The largest rock in the pyramids weighed 80 tons.
@@atomicsmith there's posts all over social media stating we don't even have the ability to lift the stones in the pyramids. They use it as "evidence" aliens built the pyramids.
@@thadofalltrades Yes, but the largest rock found in antiquity is over 1000 tons. If you think they moved weight like that with ropes made of hemp and "man power" I can't help you. Idk how it was done, but I know it wasn't by convenrial means. And no I don't think aliens built the pyramids.

I am surprised that they seem to have no plans for a test run of mechazilla like they did in the early fays when they lifted off from one landing area to another, it would be fantastic to see a booster lift off and be caught in a simulated orbital flight

Ship 26 is most likely a test article to test various systems without using an actual ship. They need the ships and it would cost time to take them out of production to test systems.

Don't understand on the ongoing obsession with how fast or slow Spacex can launch Starship. Since 2002 Spacex has had a steady pace with many successes. Its got to be worth the wait for them to get things right.
My guess is that S26 was moved to Massey to test the new flame trench and QD equipment. It’s the only starship available that has working engines and isn’t on a fixed timeline of fit out for their next flights. The only test it can’t perform is whether the new flame trench will reduce the risk of tile damage due to raptors firing on Pad B (since it doesn’t have tiles).

Starliner is built by Boeing, the company that can't keep a door in place during flight. Don't expect much.
The way Boeing is moving, SpaceX will have Starship transporting people before Boeing gets it figured out. That should be funny but unfortunately it’s not.

@@Marrrrrko47 it’s an indicator of their quality assurance program. And there have been other quality problems/skipped steps in the past. So it’s more about the fact that we can expect to see more random issues with their starliner.

Hell no I don't miss the old days. They were impressive and I'm glad I witnessed it but I'm jacked for the ramp up of thousands of engines and hundreds of ships. I want to see all 5 variants of starship full operational and the new ones not yet thought of. I hope to see a starship turned into a telescope or carry one like JWST but even bigger. As well as all the other telescope wavelengths.
This prototype 26 could also be a test to figure out different tanks instead of payload... well, rather, the payload is another cryotank for orbital refuel. It would be cool to see the frost line from top to bottom.
I think Ship 26 is a sit in orbit forever tester. How well it handles sitting exposed to the elements (or in space, to constant exposure to space).

Your the best Space X/Starbase You Tuber & the general public needs to meet this crew before they launch end of June. The new EVA suit Space X designed is deceptively remarkable & a space walk like this has never been tried. Jared Isaacman (mission leader) is insanely likeable/knowledgeable, as are Sara Gillis & Anna Menon. This is also most likely to be the first crew to fly Starship when it's ready for human trials.
Hi Felix, I believe that Ship 26 is a benchmark Prototype. They test all new hardware interfaces with it before testing the actual prototypes, also upgrades like the stringers ( checking feasibility), This allows the new prototypes to continue to be manufactures without being stopped for interface testing.

A very interesting sidenote the manufacturer of the valve is protesting its use for a rocket. It has not been properly researched to be used for this purpose from my understanding it may turn into a whistleblower issue if that’s the case I believe liner may be grounded. Object has been very vocal and is extremely dangerous

Whoa, rocket lab is going really fast with the neutron even though it's made with carbon fiber I'm surprised they are moving so quickly. If they launch in 2025 that will be a huge accomplishment

Ship 26 is a prototype for the in-orbit fuel depot. That's my guess.
They haven't added insulation yet, so they can keep working on the metal.

I wonder if Boeing will just put Starliner in a corner until the next launch window or if they'll be working on it.
If they start doing things to it the rumors will start up that the rocket (that's a 50-50 partnership with Boeing and Lockheed) malfunction was just a red herring so Boeing could fix their capsule without admitting that their capsule needed fixing.
The fixes that capsule needs would take way more than just 1 week

Ship 26, multipurpose path finder because as a permanent in orbit refueling tanker there's no need for re-entry. Not a lot of difference between it and the landers apart from payload and re-entry shielding. And they will share the same refuel hardware. Simple Engerineering. Compatibility between platforms.
I do not see heat tiles working for rapid reusability. Unless they make a robot that can quickly inspect and replace tiles with 0% error while starship is being readied for next flight.

The booster did not complete the boost back burn. If it had they would have recovered, at least part of it. In fact only three engines lit up again, and just for a very brief moment. Du lügst Felix, du lügst.
