    You are living the good life and that is what retirement is all about. The WIng will keep you young. I love my 2023 bagger DCT and I hope I can keep on it until at least 80 like a gent I met riding an old gen Wing at Mt Wachusett. Ride safe and often.

    Motorcyclist since 1977. I've had big bikes, nowadays 400-500cc and I'm happy with that.
    I remember the original Goldwing, this new Goldwing has to be the best touring bike ever.

    Good video, I turned 72 this year and feel same as I did when I was 60, so I bought a 2022 DCT standard matte blue, I found the DCT to be fascinating! I still have a 2008 Victory Vision full tour as well and plan on keeping it. You made me feel better about pulling the trigger on the DCT, I will be picking it up in about a week. Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching.

Loved your commentary on the phenomenal 2021 Goldwing…hope to acquire one in the future. “People don’t see you even if they’re looking at you” …….So true and a vital point for all motorcyclist and cyclist to ALWAYS keep in mind. I first watched your Lake Hodges video this a.m. after seeing it listed on my youtube.com Home page. Enjoyed that very much so now I am watching your other videos. You mentioned your age, height, weight, inseam, etc. which is something I really appreciate knowing. It is extremely rare to see that information given by car and bike reviewers and it is so essential to getting an idea how a person would compare sitting in a car or astride a bike. Sad to say I have you beat in all those parameters. I am 74, 6'3", 275 lbs., size 14 feet and 34" inseam. I've lusted for a Goldwing for a few years now since they came out with your DCT. Your model in particular attracts me because it doesn't have the travel trunk. I had to remove the trunk from my '09 Harley Ultra Classic a few years ago because it became too hard for me to get my leg past it when getting on the bike. I can now swing my leg over the rear of the bike even though I've mounted a luggage rack and passenger backrest.
    The closest I've been to a Goldwing was my 2001 Honda Valkyrie 1500 Interstate with it's 6 cylinder Wing engine. Anyway, I haven't yet tried to sit on a new Wing to see if I would fit. I doubt that I can. It appears to be too small for me. I am just now recovered from a broken leg I got from a bike crash 3 months ago. Not so much as a scratch on my 2006 Triumph Rocket III because I landed on one of the very few grass covered patches of dirt in all of Southeast San Diego County near Campo. Anyway, titanium plates and screws are holding me together just fine and I am slowly getting back in the riding groove.

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback! I kinda remember someone similar to your size saying their knees felt a little cramped. I love the bike and feel you should at least sit on one to make sure it’s a no go. The Gold Wing is really perfect for ease of riding. And as I get more time on the bike I am more comfortable with its weight and cornering abilities. Anyhow more importantly I am happy you are okay and can still ride😀 stay safe.

    Love your video. I’ve been debating getting either a DCT Wing or a manual, but after watching this I think the DCT is the way to go. What brand of after-market windshield did you get? It looks like it might be a big improvement over the smaller OEM unit. Thanks much!

    I love my 2023 Goldwing. I got it almost 10 months ago, and I've ridden over 13,000 miles on it. The DCT is a bit quirky and takes a bit of getting used to when stopping at a light. (It jerks a bit when downshifting.) I always ride in manual mode, so I can decide when to shift gears. This will be the last bike I'll ever own.

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! What an amazing ride I agree! About the jerky down shifting. I don’t feel that. It seems pretty smooth. Have you tried doing the steps to calibrate the DCT? Maybe that will help.
      In any event I too won’t be riding anything else 😊

    I love riding with my feet on the highway pegs, turning corners and just keep driving. I use rain mode in parking lots and turning around in my driveway. I've tried sport mode once and so glad I had a back rest, scary. Horn button is an issue ( there are 2 horns by the way, one on each side behind the lower cowls). My 2022 DCT honestly is the holy grail of bikes for me, love it.

    Many people have issues with the placement of the horn button. I just read where one guy stuck a little round rubber bumper, like the ones you find on cabinet doors, on the switch so he could differentiate the location of the button. I'm gonna do it!

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhh. I like that! The fact is you need to get at the horn immediately and you don’t know exactly when. I try to prepare by putting my thumb on the horn in situations that might need the horn. But that’s a flawed approach. Making it more accessible is really ideal. Thanks! Stay safe!

      Yes. I agree. I have been taught that also. For me being older and dealing with 800+ pounds of motorcycle. I try to get both feet down as I am coming to a stop. So I actually do the reverse. I start with the rear. Which is linked with the front. Then as I am nearing time to actually stop, I apply the front brake in time with putting both feet down. It’s helped a great deal if I am on a sloped stopping point. Thanks for your comments! Stay safe!

    I am looking for a new touring bike and have driven BMW, and my last bike was an Aprilia RSVR sport bike. I quit riding mostly because of too many close calls with drivers. I am undecided between the K1600 BMW and the Goldwing. The Goldwing seems like a big change from previous bikes with DCT and new front suspension design. Do you like the front suspension, and how long did it take to get used to the DCT? Your bike is a nice looking one, I don't like the looks of a top luggage box but it does have its utility on longer trips. Is it easy to add and remove a top box?

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I have seen on TH-cam both bikes are exceptional. It was very quick and easy getting used to DCT. It requires so much less attention that you quickly learn to just twist the throttle. It’s just like going from clutch to automatic in a car. The suspension is amazing. I feel nothing in my arms during a long ride on the shitty CA roads. My best advice would be to test drive both. The two bikes are known for being really good but different. I love the comfort and ease of the GW. Plus I am mechanically challenged so a BIG factor was reliability which is Honda.

      @@SDWalta Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment. I only found out today that both bikes do not have traditional forks. Another youtuber when comparing bikes also showed seating position on both bikes where the Honda has a more neutral riding position for the legs. I am leaning toward the Honda now because not only is it a nicer looking ride but it seems better suited for long range touring, has a lower center of gravity. The BMW has larger tank, is more sport oriented, but has fewer service centers, higher cost of service, maybe better luggage compartments, but both seem to me great bikes. I will definitely test drive both before deciding.

      @@SDWalta I did make it home safe, thanks for that. I saw many many miles of beautiful country on both sides of the border. I can’t say as I have any “real” stories to tell though. I have done a number of trips in the 6 to 8 K range, one at 11K and now 13K. All but one have been done solo. Although having said that, as you may know, you are never really solo when riding alone. People will come up to you at gas stations, at hotels, etc. wanting to know about your bike, your ride, where your from, what have you seen, etc. that’s part of the allure of riding. Take care and ride safe.

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not bad as long as you follow this technique.
      1. Make sure you are on a flat surface or even better facing an incline. Because you need to move the bike backward.
      2. Make sure the handlebars are pointing straight.
      3. Standing on the side of bike. While holding the steering wheel straight. Stand
      on the center stand just enough to make touch the ground. Then tilt the bike so you can feel both center stand legs touching equally.
      4. While using your right hand to hold the rear seat area side handles. Step on the center stand with your full weight. And at the same time pull the bike up and backwards with your right hand.
      I can’t do it if I have to roll the bike backwards and it must also go up a slope.
      But. Now that I know the technique above. I can do it everytime without much effort.
      You can do it.

    Can someone help me? I just bought a 2022 Honda Goldwing DCT. I notice the transmission when shifting up or down seems a little loud. I can hear it clunk. I hear it in this video as well. Thats prob telling me its not an issue. And the navigation on this bike SUCKS.. It cant find anything. I found 1 address out of 5 different ones when I needed to find a route. Do I need to update it or something??

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I test road a tour model it too was loud shifting. I was concerned about it. So when I test road the bike I now own, I was listening for that and it wasn’t as loud. But I can still clearly hear the shifting, just that now it sounds less klunky. Wish I knew why it is different between the bikes I rode. As to the navigation, I too found it a pain. It wasn’t until I installed the Bluetooth headset and connected up Apple CarPlay that things improved drastically. Navigation is SO much easier with CarPlay. I hope you have many safe and fun miles on your new bike😀

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also you could check the oil level I read if that gets low it could make the shifting louder. And another thing to try is to initialize the DCT. it may re tune the shift points and smooth things out. Cruiseman does a demo showing how to do the DCT initialization. He provides a ton of great info.

    • @SDWalta
      @SDWalta  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good attentive viewing! You are correct, I did install them upside down. But not on purpose. After using them like that for a while I noticed from another persons video that mine were upside down. I decided to just leave it that way because I like the way they look with them going narrow to wide, and it seems my foot rests more on the wider part which is on the bottom part. It doesn't appear to have any structural issues . Still I would not recommend installing them that way to someone else, in case it does cause a problem.Thanks for the feedback!
