  • 2018 Goldwing GL1800 DCT toys with and beats Sports bike. Tried to outrun the 1800cc flat 6, did not end as he hoped. Do not underestimate the power of the new wings or their ability to carry their weight. They can move, not just in a straight line.

I've had Electra Glides, Road Glides, and Indians. I always gravitate back to the Honda. Comfort, power, and reliability. And a reasonable price. I don't have to spend 5k in extra crap to get it to ride right. It just goes from the factory. My DCT would eat a CVO all day. For half the price. No tuners needed.

I'm a sportbike owner / enthusiast. My first ride on my friend's 2024 Goldwing woke me up. What a great motorcycle! Power, comfort, handling, feedback, perfect center of gravity..... It has it all. I must have one now. In my humble opinion the new Goldwing is the best bike ever made.
Want to have a very aggressive, spirited ride? jump on a Goldwing. Want to tour the country safely and calmly? Jump on a Goldwing. Tired of your Wife constantly telling you what to do? Jump on a Goldwing.
The bike was designed with me in mind.

      @@paulh7589 yes & no. I run a '13 R1, '10 VFR1200F DCT as well as my DCT wing.
      Sports, SPORTS tourer, tourer.
      190hp 200kg, 180hp 265kg, 125hp 390kg. Though it must be said ole wing pumps out 170nm!
Have the Stage 1 Bren tuner at home. Once flashed big rig will be 145hp & 185nm. Insane!
But alas maths is maths. I'm running 500kg+ loaded up for a weeks trip. Solo! 110kg + 25kg gear, 525kg.
It's amazing how it hauls that weight, and yes, previous gen was heavier and slightly down on power, so it's as good as it could be. Yet to ride with the tune. But again, it's how you enter a turn that determines how you exit it. And steaming into a bend at 150kph+/500kg+, well it's something. It's, um, different. I definately don't ride it like my VFR. Now, that thing is something. Let me tell ya. Still no light weight by any stretch. 265kg, 1200cc V4. It fukkn moves. You need to manage some weight there also, but about the SPORTIEST sports tourer on the planet. I love that thing. If I really want to have "fun", over multiple days, over thousands of km, in creamy comfort. VFR1200F.
But yeah, you can definately have a giggle on the new wing. It's mind bobbling how fast it rips though gears out of a dig. That 7spd DCT in manual mode is fukkn hilarious.
Btw, I baught big vif first. Yep! DCT. Love that box. Absolutely suits the Vif & wing. Would not buy manual.
Do not use auto on vif. Occasionally use auto on the wing. Just kick back. Tunes on, cold bevvy at hand. Legs up, cruise on, reeeeeest!
In that regard, sure, the current wing is a flexible bike. Long n lazy. Pokey n giggly.
However, a VFR1200F she is not. BTW, record? 14hr day on the vif. With breaks obviously. Fresh as, for the most part. I wouldn't do that 5 days in a row. Just an example. Can do a long day on it and still tear up twisties like it's a CBR.
The wing you do need to muscle to get it sparking up. Not, tbh, what I'd want to, repeatedly. It's tiring. 500kg!
Only one bike for fun, and comfort? Wait for it...........
K1600 GTL. If that's all I could have as a bike? Oh, I could very easily get by with the VFR. But yeah. 1.6L straight 6⃣. All the bells n whistles. 250kph+. That'd probably be me.
But I like my options. But my favourite bike I own. Yeah. Big vif. That 1200 V4 is sumfin. Most mileage but? The wing.
      So. Go figure? 🤔 🤷🇦🇺

It's a real popular road. We have a few, this is one of the most well known. Has mixes of everything. If ya do the full(maybe 250km) loop you can tick off most boxes. K1600 a close second, but more GTR1400 than GL1800. And if I want the real deal, than the 1200 V4 delivers in spades.
I have the big vif with DCT also. Accident? No. Love DCT.
Between Android Auto & DCT the main reason I went GL vs K16. Won't rule out a K bike in the future, but with what's out TODAY, no. And am eagerly awaiting a extra treat or 3 hopefully in the 2025 50th anniversary. We're all holding our collective breath.......... BTW there is a BT Moto tuner out now for the 18+. Oh, btw, 500kg wet on road me n my wing. On the best day. Can & does go up from there. But yeah, once you add up all the variables you don't always get what you expected. Personally I baught the wing for a few reasons. Ride. Engine. Reliability. If I wanted outright speed I'd have gotten a K1600GTL. But my "fast" tourer a VFR1200F will smoke everything. If I could only have ONE bike, a K1600 for sure. 99.9% GTL. A closer ride to my wing would be a Grand America, but they report as unstable at or around 150k+. I do play on my wing, so, yeah. If I was 72yo & not 52yo.......maybe.
Ibmight pick up a 14-16 K1600GTL-E one day to slip into collection, just for gigs. Do love the bike. Is a "better" bike than a wing, but again. In the real world, only at the limit, on the right road, on the right day. Everywhere else, wing.

No, not even close. Kph for kph out of my 5 toys it's the easiest to pull on. Cars included. Jeep SRT get a bit squirelly unless road is dead flat and smooth. Alfa GTA has a 1.7 lock to lock steering rack, great for twisties, not fast sweepers. One tap on the wheel and your in the next lane. R1...... Say no more, you gotta be on point 24/7 with that weapon. There is no off button on that weapon. VFR1200F any easy long haul bruiser. However, easy to confuse that iconic sports tourer for a actual sports bike. Don't! At 270kg you will find out very quickly it is not. Attack with caution. Which brings me to the wing. Takes straight aways and sweepers with absolute ease. Just hold onto the throttle and without realising, you've run out of speedo. Not a care in the world. Literally. Sweepers, sure, not off the dial, but up there. Tighter stuff? Yeah, you'll hear the pegs grind away from time to time. I don't aim to, but it's nice to know it leans over with confidence and warning before things go pear shaped. I've taken the wing to speeds on roads I never felt comfortable taking a 300kph super sports. I ran out of road on my wing long before I ran out of confidence on my R1. It's that stable.

Hence I put decent but reasonable offers on the k bikes I did. I wasn't paying what they wanted with the mileage they had. My wing had double the mileage and I payed more than any of the k bikes. I payed $29k on 45k km. I passed on k bikes with 15-30k km & $22-26k. Yes put offers in, not paying that though with those k's. Don't think I saw one k bike with 6fig on the clock. Wings? Nice touring bike, however, with a top speed of 112, it's not a rocket. Your very lucky, passing in a no passing zone, speeding and had the truck been seconds later making the left turn, you been parked the SUV's boot.

112? Well off the mark. Winds out to 215 before speedo bump stop kicks in. Thing loves bouncing off rev limiters too. Well pokey.
If I want to ramp up my touring I rip out the VFR1200F. Another DCT Honda beast. Just felt lazy on this day, out for a sedate cruise. Coming back from a camping trip fully loaded up. Yet to camp my VFR. Waiting on a 45L top box. If it doesn't get here soon and if it warms up early, I'll pack less and just use the 31L top box. #summerscoming

I should have noted y'all were driving on the wrong side of the road, the 112 is in MPH. At 79, I was bored, went to State of Ohio school Learn to Ride, $50, 4 hours of class todays of riding their bikes, got my license. Bought a 2022 CB500X that Honda claims will do 114 MPH with light weight Asian riding it. Reason why, it weighs half of what your Goldwing weighs, and I can verify it will do 105 MPH with a little throttle left on US interstate, but never again.
A thought, five weeks after my son bought a new Suzuki V Strom 650, a guy in SUV made a left turn from a stop sign as he was making a left on the street the SUV was leaving. The SUV caught the rear tire sending the bike out of control into a concrete four inch post in the tree lawn. It did over $7,000 of damage to his bike but he was lucky; he went over the bike onto the sidewalk and broke the sun shade his helmet and only sprained his wrist.
That dime is a 126.6-foot stopping distance from 60 mph plus reaction time. Ride like you're invisible, and stay safe.

Generally it's gtg. Bikes can get tricky. Just takes a few gedrees, a bit of wind, a drop in direct sun and things get unpleasant very fast. I always try to carry extra gear. Even my R1, I'll head out with 1 or 2 bags. 9L tank bag. Or 5L tank bag & 12L tail bag. No need to do it tough.
