ANYONE who thought they'd be a full time starter on the same time for more than 5 years, playing good or not, if you thought, they were good enough to finish a contract..... you're TOO obsessed with college football.     Merrill Hoge was one of the best analysts I’ve seen on this program. Very sharp. And a real man and not afraid to say what he wants to. He was exactly right about Clowney and Johnny Foosball

He is his 4th team in 4 years and will be in bis 5th in 5 for a reason. The league has told you what they think of him. He is a flashy run stopped that makes some splash plays but misses some cause he freelances and gives up big plays all game long. Thats what he did for Titans. He was unplayable. He is all college and Cobine hype and is getting worse by the day cause of lost athleticism. Lacks serious power. Never got 10 sacks and most sacks he got were cleanup and coverage sacks which JJ watt provided for him drawing double and triple teams. Clowney got 3.5 sacks in last 32 games and 1 of them is a late hit on Carson Wentz in playoffs

    This man was spot on with his predictions, how does Mel kiper still on tv and they buried Mel for his very spot on and accurate assessment of Johnny Manziel. He’s a real one we need this kind of knowledge in today.

    Clowney not happy with 17mil per year. Clowney has never recorded a double digit sack year. Has only played one season at 16 games. Guest total tackle season was 59 I believe. No interceptions from what I can see and no fumble recoveries for score or at all from what I read. Until he records stats like Taylor, Hayley, Butkus,white and watt he is an average player at best.

    Merrill hodge has an amazing football IQ, nobody is always right but you can take this man’s word about his player evaluations to the bank. It’s awesome to see someone nail somebody’s actually talent value against the popular view not hate to clowney definitely a disappointment as the first over pick but has had a solid career for the most part but damn this shit was so spot on

    Clowney hasn`t lived up to his draft billing but did have a couple of decent years. Hodge was spot on about his pass rushing ability and it hasn`t translated to much in the pros. He`s made his name as a run stopping end at times.

    Clowney the perfect example of a player that was always bigger stronger faster than everyone else and never needed to work on technique until he got in the NFL. He’s had a solid career but nowhere near reached expectations.

      @@brandonwilson810 Clowney's problem was and remains - injuries. He's a very smart football player. In Houston, according to Bill O'Brian, he studied the film and asked all the right questions. his interception against Oakland in the play-off game was a direct result of studying film. His meniscus tear in the first quarter of his first game changed him forever. Hoge didn't predict that. He is still an excellent player with big moments at the right time.

    I started losing respect for ESPN the moment Merrill was fired. An analysts job is to tell the truth and state the facts whether you like it or not. ESPN made a terrible mistake going woke.

    you have to give credit to JC, though. I think he really worked hard with JJ watt (another tall DL) and the texans coaching staff who taught him how to keep his pad level low and its working for him now.

    The athlete thing is a bit of a smoke screen, too. When an edge player doesn't do the cone drills (b/c they know the time will be bad), that's a big red flag, IMO. Says they may be great exploding in a straight line, but not bending the edge.

    Also, Clowney plays for the AFC South, which the teams in that division have the worst O-Lines in the league. He should have double digit sacks in those gimme 6 divisional games they play each season.

      Merril was always saying the opposite of Mel Kiper and others who never played a sport in their lives because unlike them, he actually played running back for both Pittsburgh and Chicago. Plus he's more red than blue if you know what I mean. The people running ESPN didn't like having a smart and level headed guy who doesn't agree with their agendas.
